BQ34Z100-G1: Internal PCM; which ground?

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

Hi, I have some questions about using the bq34z100-G1 fuel gauge:

 1) I plan to use bq34z100-G1 to fuel-gauge Ultralife UBBL22, a 2-wire, 4S1P Li-ion battery pack that has an internal Protection Circuit Module. Various figures in the bq34z100-G1 data sheet illustrate a connection to the node in the battery pack between the protection FETs and the positive terminal of the top cell. I cannot access that node, of course. Is it essential to do so?

 2) Various figures in the bq34z100-G1 data sheet illustrate using the negative terminal of the bottom cell (i.e., the SRP node of the sense resistor—designated BAT- in other figures) as ground for the fuel gauge circuitry. Is there any reason I should not use PACK- (the SRN node of the sense resistor—same as system ground on my application board) as ground for the fuel gauge circuitry?

 3) Just to clarify—please correct me if I am wrong: My load gets connected between PACK+ and PACK-, and I also connect my charger between PACK+ and PACK-.

Thanks,

Chris
