Part Number:LM2936
Operation of LM2936Z with input above 40V.
We've got a board that uses the LM2936Z-3.3 device, and need it to operate with an unsmoothed rectified supply that goes to about 46V peak. The High Voltage (HV) version of the LM2936Z isn't available in a TO-92 package, and although the data sheet makes it clear that the HV device regulates to a 60V input, it also suggests that the non-HV device will survive to a 60V input, although won't then offer short circuit protection.
So:
1) Will a standard LM2936Z device survive repetitive supply voltage above 40V
2) What effect would this have on the longevity of the device?
3) Is there an alternative device with 50V input or higher that provides a fixed 3.3V output?
4) Do we need to resort to changing our design?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
