BQ34Z100 cycle count algorithm clarifications

Good morning,

I'm currently facing with another difficulty while using the BQ34Z100. I have to use the cycle count information provided by the BQ34Z100 and so I have to properly set the CC Threshold value, in order to obtain a useful cycle count data accordingly to the final application.

  • How should be set the CC Threshold value? Is there any criteria for that?
  • Is there any constraint on the CC threshold value compared to the total battery capacity?

I've tried to understand how the internal algorithm works, but I didn't obtain a clear view about it. So I've got some questions.

  • Does the CC Threshold register represent a threshold on the Passed Charge value?

From my analysis, it is not so because the Passed Charge register is reset after each relaxation and the Cycle Count increment does not consider such resets. It seems there is another hidden (i.e. not accessible) register to be considered.

  • If that is true, how and when is such a hidden register reset?
  • If the CC Threshold value has been set to a low value (compared to the total battery capacity), what happen during a complete battery discharge phase? Is the Cycle Count incremented several times? Or is it necessary a charge phase to enable a new increment of the Cycle Count?

Thank you in advance for any feedback, so I can better evaluate how to set the CC Threshold in my application.
