TPS2660: TPS26601 in handling second inrush current/over-voltage scenarios

Part Number:TPS2660

Hi,

I am currently using TPS26601 in circuit breaker latch mode for overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent and also short circuit protection.

From my understanding, the fast-trip comparator in the eFuse will turn off the internal FET when current through the FET I(load) exceed I(fasttrip) in the case of short circuit event. My questions are:

  1. In the event where a second inrush current event occurs after Vout has reach steady state, if the inrush current level exceed I(fasttrip) - not to the extent of very high current peak similar to short circuit to ground – will the fast-trip comparator be triggered?
  2. Will the fast-trip trigger level be the same as 87% above the set current limit in the case of inrush current event during steady state?

  1. Is there any high current pulse duration requirement for the fast-trip comparator to response?
  2. Will you be able to provide the min and max fast-trip comparator threshold levels as datasheet only specify typ?

The reason I am asking these questions is because we are observing a second inrush current event in our board when the Vout has already reached steady state and the level is above the 1.87*I(ol)+0.015A threshold but the fast-trip comparator is not triggered. We did an experiment to determine the level of current peak that will trigger the fast-trip comparator and found out that it is 2.27*I(ol). We would like get more info on the reaction of the eFuse towards inrush current that occurs during steady state and what are the levels that will shut off the eFuse, so that we can move forward to optimize our design. Please advise. Thanks.

Regards,
Leo
