BQ34Z100-G1 Transient Zeroing of RC during discharge

Current config is:

  • Default chemistry
  • BQ34z100-G1 EVM
  • External sense resistor
  • Calibrated voltage and current
  • 4s 5200mAh LiPo battery

I have performed several charges and discharges in which I am able to successfully obtain OCV readings and Ra table updates. On every discharge there is a point at which Remaning Capacity becomes zero. FCC of course also drops by that value as well because it is dependent on RC.

On every discharge it looks like it is happening right around where Grid Point changes from 3 to 4. Later on RC is recalculated to a proper value. This varies from 8 seconds to 64 seconds before returning to normal. During this time in discharge TrueRC becomes negative. Out of 5 different captures only once did I notice the SOH bit asserting in the Flags B register. Perhaps it is because I am using a 4sec scan rate and got lucky one time.

Attached is the log, the event happens at sample 1779 and is cleared by sample 1787.

ALSO, with RSOC smoothing turned on, this issue stays persistent in RemCap and FullChgCap. It appears that the filter only looks at changes in TrueRC and not the actual value. RemCap and FullChgCap never converge back to the proper value after this transient when I have smoothing enabled. In the attached log I have smoothing disabled for this reason.

What can I do to prevent the transient?

Thanks in advance for any insight on this!
