bq27425 and bqSTUDIO

Hi all,

I have designed in a bq27425 and am looking to use bqSTUDIO to configure the part (Design Capacity, Term Voltage, Op Config, etc).  To try this out, I bought the bq27425 EVM and the bq27GDK000EVM. For all of the below, I am only using the GDK and EVAL boards.  (My "short term" goal is to program each of my dozen prototypes with the GDK.)

First, is there a doc that covers how to use bqSTUDIO to config the bq27425? SLUA642 is a great little doc about using bqCONFIG to program the part, but I cannot find the software anywhere. It would seem that bqSTUDIO has replaced bqCONFIG.... true? If not, is there a better users guide for bqSTUDIO than the help files included in the software? I can't seem to find one.

Second, it was my expectation that I could roughly do the following to program the 27425 with bqSTUDIO:

1. Click the "Data Memory" button on the tool bar.

2. Click the UNSEAL button using the Commands panel.

3. Watch all of the Values change from "SEALED" to whatever value is located in the EEPROM

4. Make the necessary changes (Design Capacity, Term Voltage, Op Config, Temp, etc...)

5. Click the SEAL button using the Commands panel.

6. Open libation of choice and pat myself on the back for a job well done.

Unfortunately, this stops in step two... clicking the UNSEAL button only disables the button in the GUI. I do not get the values from the EEPROM in the Data Memory panel and the SS bit in the Registers panel does not go green.

There is also a "Parameter Q&A" button on the toolbar that looks promising, but all I get are "Load or Store Action can't find the parameter..." errors when I push the button.

Can you steer me in the right (or better) direction?

Now, I am able to communicate with the part. I can click the DEVICE_TYPE, FW_VERSION and CHEM_ID buttons and get the correct responses. I also do not see any feedback saying the tool cannot communicate. I can also charge, discharge the attached battery correctly, seeing the voltage and current level graphics respond correctly in the DashBoard panel.

I also updated the onboard EV2400's firmware to version 0.18, as requested on the GDK's landing site.

Thanks for the help!

Jason
