bq27542-g1 Communicate line protection

As subject, I saw there is particular protection circuit for bq27542-g1 communication line in bq27542 datasheet. Is that necessary? Because I didn't see protection circuit for communication line before in other circuits and applications, can anyone tell me why bq27542 needs one?

Is that because of bq27542's low voltage range of Charged-device Model (CDM)?
