BQ27542 Can't Change Data Memory

I am working with the BQ27542 fuel gauge, and am trying to change the pack configuration registers using Battery Management Studio (bqStudio).  I have a BQ27542EVM hooked to an EV2400 and a laptop running Windows 7 Pro.

My problem is, in bqStudio's Data Memory plugin, when I try to change a value, I get an error "A read of data written failed comparison."

This has worked for me in the past, so I must have some setting wrong that is preventing the fuel gauge from accepting the new value.  Any ideas?
