BQ78350-R1 with BQ76920 using more than one TEMP SENSOR [TI NE]

According to this E2E post:https://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/battery_management/f/180/t/399600, only one EXT TEMP sensor can be used.  However, the BQ78350 datasheet, section 9.3.7.3 states:

The bq78350 receives temperature information from external or internal temperature sensors in the bq769x0 AFE. Depending on the number of series cells supported, the AFE will provide one, two, or three external thermistor measurements.

so this seems to indicate there can be three EXT TEMP sensors used.

More pressing, in a design using the BQ78350-R1 and the BQ76920, how does one select and use both the INT TEMP sensors and the EXT TEMP sensors?  This design does NOT have an external uC, so does this mean you must select one TEMP SENSOR beforehand, program the BQ-device with that selection, then only use that TEMP SENSOR for monitor and control?
