BQ34Z100-G1: Losing I2C communication after golden image .srec file is programmed

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1

Hi All,

I am having problems when I create a golden image after my learning cycle is complete, when I program a new device I instantly lose I2C comms with the device.

My setup includes the following:

  • Custom board based on the BQ34Z100-G1 EVM module.
  • BQ34Z100-G1 EVM Module for developing the golden file.
  • bqStudio 1.3.96
  • 12V 2200mAh 26.4Wh NiMH 10 cell battery pack

I can program and reprogram the bq34z100_G1_v0_16_build_17.srec file as many times as i like without any issue on both the custom boards and the EVM.

My problem occurs when using bqStudio to program using my attached golden file. When I program a custom board or the EVM I instantly lose comms and the device enters a confused state.

The program uploads correctly and i get the green tick and execute successfully completed message on screen, I do a restart and then there is no acknowledge from the device on any I2C address.

I have checked to see if it is in HDQ mode and it is not, from reading the forums it would suggest it is not exiting ROM mode but if this was the case i should be able to write or read to 0x16 but i can't.

I have manually entered all the data from the .gg file and can run a calibration and learning cycle but I can't do this for every device, I need to get a golden image working.

There was a mention of the last 3 lines in the .bq.fs file but these match the files generated from bq34z100G1FirmwareBundle-0.16-windows-installer.exe in sluc580 taken from the TI website.

I am sure there is a simple explanation for this but it is just not obvious to me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Paddy
