BQ76200: BQ76200 in TIDA-010030

Part Number:BQ76200

Hi:

I'm using the AFE bq76930 with the high side fet driver bq76200 to implement a BMS for 5A charge and discharge current.
I'm using a configuration with 1x FET for charge and 1x FET for discharge, in series. My battery is a 10s pack.
I have read both components datasheets, everything is very clear.
Then I studied the great TIDA-010030 ref design, and I have some questions on that implementation:
- Instead of using bq76200's build in pre-charge FET driver output, it implements a discrete driver outside, directly commanded by the MCU. Why is that? Is there any known issue with the
PCHG driver of the bq76200 ?
- In the discharge fet driver, there is an extra circuit based on a 2n7002 than will turn on only if PACK- is bigger than PACK+, and it's usually off.
What is it for? Is it recommended for my 5A 10s battery application?
- In the charge fet driver, there is an extra circuit based on a PMOS BSS84. What is it for? Is it recommended for my 5A 10s battery application?

Thanks very much
Sebastian

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

Hello,

can the hdq and I2C be handled concurrently? i.e i have 2 hosts in the system but only 1 fuel gauge. the gauge has both the hdq and i2c interface. can i assign 1 host to the hdq and other o=to the i2c and have them both communicate with the gauge at the same time?

if not this IC, is there any other gauge that could do this?

Thank you,

Gaurav

Hello,

We had burnt the micro-controller by shorting one of the pins with a high voltage line. We purchased a new MSP430F5529 chip and soldered it on the PCB.

We followed the steps that  mentioned  www.ti.com/.../slaa452c.pdf - go to section 5 of that document and it shows how to install a new firmware in MSP430 with USB interface as it already has an inbuilt bootloader.Download (MSP430USBDEVPACK) and flash former FW , On EV2400 board USB connector D+ and D- pin 0Volt, can you please tell me what should I do? how to resolve this problem(Please visit the site to view this file)

Impact of reducing AD value acquisition channels.

Hello !

Currently, we are considering using ucd3138RGC to create a product using PSFB source code.

(code URL : http://www.tij.co.jp/tool/jp/ucd3138fw-psfb)

The products we want to create are intended to protect only the output voltage and output current.

There are the following nine AD values acquired by poll_adc ().

 adc_values.vo_sense        = AdcRegs.ADCAVGRESULT[3].bit.RESULT;

adc_values.io_sense        = AdcRegs.ADCAVGRESULT[1].bit.RESULT;

adc_values.ishare            = AdcRegs.ADCAVGRESULT[0].bit.RESULT;

adc_values.vin_mon        = AdcRegs.ADCAVGRESULT[4].bit.RESULT;

adc_values.temp              = AdcRegs.ADCAVGRESULT[5].bit.RESULT;

adc_values.ips                 = AdcRegs.ADCRESULT[7].bit.RESULT;

adc_values.device_temp = AdcRegs.ADCRESULT[8].bit.RESULT;

io_sense                           = AdcRegs.ADCRESULT[1].bit.RESULT;   //352 if offset by R104, 95.6/A

ishare                               = AdcRegs.ADCRESULT[0].bit.RESULT;

 The following five AD values will be unused to speed up the process:

In the IC external circuit, ground these AD pins to GND.

In the source code, do not set acquisition of these AD values.

 adc_values.ishare           = AdcRegs.ADCAVGRESULT[0].bit.RESULT;

adc_values.vin_mon        = AdcRegs.ADCAVGRESULT[4].bit.RESULT;

adc_values.temp              = AdcRegs.ADCAVGRESULT[5].bit.RESULT;

adc_values.ips                 = AdcRegs.ADCRESULT[7].bit.RESULT;

ishare                               = AdcRegs.ADCRESULT[0].bit.RESULT;

 If the following 4 variables in system_defines.h are changed as follows, I think about no fault occurs in the IRQ.

VIN_SUFFICIENT (1)

VIN_NOT_SUFFICIENT (0)

VIN_UV_FAULT (0)

VIN_OV_FAULT (0)

 Do you think PSFB control problems occur?

BQ28Z610: BQ28Z610

Part Number:BQ28Z610

Hello

We're using the BQ28Z610 fuel gauge IC for monitoring our 2S LION Battery pack. The device appears to be working correctly, however periodically the RSOC (Releative State of Charge) indicates 0% even though the battery pack is charged. The RSOC seems to be stuck at 0% even if we charge/discharge the pack. It appears the only way get the BQ28Z610 to resume gauging correctly is to send an "Unseal" command followed by a "Reset" command - It then resumes sending the correct RSOC

Does anyone know why this might be happening? and how to prevent it happening?

Thank you

Stephen

BQ34110: I2C communication troubleshooting (EV2400 vs Custom Board)

$

Part Number: BQ34110

Hello,

A custom board (based on BQ34110 EVM) is designed and working with EV2400 as expected. Below a simplified diagram showing the signals SCL [yellow] and SDA [blue] during the communication with bqStudio/EV2400.

In other test, the EV2400 is disconnected from the board and the MCU perform as master. In this case, the BQ34110 doesn't show the ACK. Below a simplified diagram including the scope signals in two different I2C implementations: software (or bit-banging) and hardware.

  • The MCU is powered by 3.4V
  • The pull-up resistor were adjusted and tested with 10K, 3K and 1.5K
  • The board was power off and on during the testing (in case the bq34110 is on halt state, as reported in other situations/post)
  • Below the schematic around the BQ34110
  • The EV2400 is connected to connector J13
  • The MCU is connected to the signals: BAT_INT_SDA and  BAT_INT_SCL
  • The software I2C implementation was developed in order to simulated similar waveform as the EV2400, specifically, the start and delay after.

Despite the development and tests carried out, the communication still does not work.

Any suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks

G3 - What it means

After 3 years live the secondary comparator triggers at the wrong levels

Part Number: BQ76PL536

I am using 4 Stacked BQ76PL536 in combination with a TM4C123G controller on a 14s battery system in a 4,4,3,3 configuration. The system is online since late 2015, with some longer offtimes during winter.

As i tested one battery, in total with 140 cells in series so 10 BMS boards, i recognised that the system is tripping overvoltage with the secondary protection but the cell voltages a actually lower.

The AFE is set 4.2V and 1000ms delay. This was verified in multiple tests and worked for 3 years. Just now the OV bits and the secondary protection are tripped before the voltage of 4.2V is reached.

We are talking about voltages between 4.12V to 4.18V depending on the boards, most of the time if i am rebooting (reinitialize and readdressing the AFEs) the cells which are indicating a OV are changing. They are not even the highest cells. CellVoltages are acccurate as always within +-2mV. For now i have lifted the OV Limit to 4.4V, but this is not acceptable since all the hardware safety circuits are now inactive and the safety relies on the software.

So what is happening here? I have no idea what to do! Let me know what data you need to know so we can figure this out.

BQ24773: how to detect a good/bad battery

$
0
0

Part Number: BQ24773

hi,

just looking for confirmation my understanding is correct...

At POR the Auto-Wake-Up is enabled.

After the PACK reaches 6V (or 3V) the charger sets charging current to 0 (good battery); if not (after 30min timeout) the Auto-Wake-Up bit is cleared.

So monitoring these 2 registers should be sufficient to assert the status of the charger.

Before asserting the battery is gone/bad/damaged (i.e. never reaches 3-6V), the amount of time needed to reach 3/6V can be estimated based on battery capacity/size.

is there any -even indicative- flowchart on how to set (Step by step) registers in BQ24773?

thanks a lot in advance

KR
