UCC28180: UCC28180 Question about ON/OFF Control and Vsense pin.

Part Number: UCC28180

Dear support member,

My customer used UCC28180.

I have a question.

(Question1)
The UCC 28180 has no ON / OFF pin.
How can IC control ON / OFF?

(Question2)
There are two as a threshold for the Vsense pin.
At soft start (-0.259 to -0.312 V).
At constant state (-0.345 to -0.438 V).

when setting the Vsense resistance,
since the constant state Vsense threshold is large, it will be higher than the soft start threshold.

Is there no problem even if it gets over current at startup?

Best regard.
Bob Lee.

UCC27712: UCC27712 IC Problem

Part Number: UCC27712

We are developing single phase inverter, in which we used UCC27712 IC for Mosfet Gate driving. We have developed the same circuit given in SPRABW0C document.

Switching frequency is 20Khz and used lookup table for duty cycles to generate 50Hz sine wave. The circuit is working fine upto 100V input.
If the input is > 100V then lIC is getting failed (No pulses from LO Output pin). After replace with new IC it works upto 100V again and same problem.
Actually I have to use 360V DC input to generate 230V AC, 50Hz output.
Please suggest any other protections needed for this IC other than specified in SPRABW0C shcematic(Page No 17).

TPS61251: Output voltage drop on connecting load

Part Number: TPS61251

I am using TPS61251 for the following specifications:

Vin = 3.6 - 5V

Vout = 5.5 V

Iout = 50mA - 400mA

The circuit diagram of my circuit is as shown below -

The type of components used are as follows:

1. IC - WSON packaging, soldered to a WSON to DIP breakout board. (Thermal pad left unconnected)

2. Inductor L1 - Axial color coded inductor

3. Capacitors C1, C3, C4, C6 - Electrolytic capacitor, C2 - Ceramic capacitor

4. V1 - Power supply connected to the mains with a rating of 30V, 10 A.

5. Pot - 100k pot.

Note - The circuit is connected on a breadboard, which was tested for its connectivity.

Issue - The IC is behaving well when the load is not connected. The output voltage ramps up to 5.5 V and stays there with almost no ripple. However, when the load varying from 15 ohms to 2.2k is connected, the output voltage drops just below the input voltage, about Vin - 0.2V. Also, the output voltage follows the input voltage when the input is varied. When the resistor load is decreased from 2.2k to 15 ohms, the output drop varies from Vin - 0.2 to Vin - 1.2. One thing is for certain, the switching action is not happening when the load is connected, but the switching action seems to be happening when there is no load connected. Is there an issue with the IC? Or, what could be the cause of this?

Part Number: LM5118EVAL

Greetings!

We have procured LM5118EVAL/NOPB. It is designed to provide an output of 12V with 3A. We require an output of 7.4V. Since LM5118 is capable of this, is it possible to achieve this by changing the value of passive components?! Kindly guide us on this ASAP.

Thanks and regards,

Dhanya

TPS56528: Alternate part with low input voltage

Part Number: TPS56528

In our project we used TPS56528 to generate the 1.2V / 5A, When we use this part the input voltage Min required 4.5V as per the datasheet.

As per the project change request the input voltage we plan to use 3.3V instead of 5V.

So could you please suggest direct cross part from TI and the input voltage 3.3V and the output voltage is adjustable to able to fix 1.2V. current rating we are OK 3 or 5A .

Part Number: LM5165

Dear e2e Support,

My customer intends to use our DC/DC as a NiMh battery charger, thanks to the current limit feature we have.

Is there any limitation if we use 2x Rilim resistors in series? The idea would be to shunt one of the twos, with a Mosfet, to be able to set dynamically two different currents limitation.

Part Number: TPS63060

Hello Expert

We have output voltage issue with back-boost converter TPS63060 at weak load. Calculated nominal Vout is 4.8V. Resistor divider R1=868kOm  and R2=100kOm.  Inductor Coilcraft XFL4020-102 (recommended), output capacitors 3 x 22uF, 10V. Input capacitor 2 x 10uF.  Input voltage in range 3.6V to 5V.

At weak load of 10mA output voltage 4.96V - 5.02V, ripple 40mV (the result of 10 units).

At load of 500mA output voltage as designed 4.81V.

Please advise how to maintain the nominal output voltage of 4.8 V under weak load.

We use this DC / DC in a portable device (powered by battery) and can't be loaded unnecessarily.

Thanks.

Part Number: LM5155

Dear Team,

I am looking for below reference design.

I would like to promote this reference design to the customer no matter with/without PD.

Because this reference design uses TPS2373's Vcout pin to deal with LM51551's low voltage BIAS pin.

How to startup the circuit if no PD controller here?

Part Number: TPS53681

Hi TI team,

I am using TPS53681 in one of my projects. I am trying to read to read the IOUT value of the channel A. I have read the current the drawn by the circuit from the Fusion digital power designer GUI and found it to be around 11A. when I am trying to manipulate the hexdata read from the IC it is not matching with the value displayed on the GUI.

I have followed the steps given in the datsheet and manipulated it as per the decoding format given in the datasheet.

Please help in manipulating the data.

I have followed the below steps for reading the data:

1. Select Channel A. Write PAGE to 00h
2. Select total current measurement. Write PHASE to 80h
3. Read READ_IOUT(16 bit data)

I have manipulated as below:

cb88 is the value which was read.

X = Y × 2 ^ N

where • X is the real world value • Y is an 11-bit, two's complement integer • N is a 5-bit, two's complement integer

CB88=1100 1011 1000 1000‬

N=(11001)b=-9

Y=(011 1000 1000‬)b=904

X=1.765625‬ which is not matching with the value coming on the GUI screen.

LM5170-Q1: About LM5170 how to drive back to back mosfet.

Part Number: LM5170-Q1

Hi

In the TI Design of TIDA-01168,the pins of BRKS and BRKG in LM5170 is used as the gate drive of the back to back mosfets in page 23.

But I do not understand how it drive the mosfet?

Such as when BRKG is High and BRKS is low,the mosfet is drived,but at the same time the voltage of BRKS is equal to KL30,will the voltage of BRKS larger than BRKG and caused the mosfets opend again?

BQ78350-R2-DEVICE-FW: BQ78350+MCU questions

Part Number: BQ78350-R2-DEVICE-FW

I am working on a BMS using the BQ78350 and BQ76930 offerings from TI. In my last post, Matt from the forum gave a detailed answer and told me that I should use a MCU for my purpose.

I have few more questions now.

1) Can I use the BQ78350+BQ76930+MCU combination? The BQ78350 will be responsible Gauging, Balancing, Protecting and recommending Charging current and voltage based on cell stats. The MCU will get these information from the BQ78350 and control the charger. The MCU will also obtain SOC and other info from the BQ78350 and display on a TFT Display.

2) When used with a MCU, will the BQ78350 take care of gauging and balancing(i wanted to balance at both charging and rest previously, but after reading more on the topic I have decided to balance only during charging)?

3) Will the BQ78350 be able to blow a secondary protector as a fail safe protection?

4) I hope the BQ78350 can work even if the MCU fails.

5) Do I need to connect a FET to each cell if I want to balance them?

6) How do decide on the components to be used(resistors,capacitors,FETs,etc)

7) What are the things I should consider when selecting a MCU?

8) Is there a reference design for this setup?

9) After completing my circuit, is there a way to simulate it before I start fabricating?

Thanks.

TPS54291: Non-monotonic power supply problem

Part Number: TPS54291

Hi,

I have problems with non-monotonic power supply on the left side of the circuit (1.8V @ 1.5A) while the other side (3.3V @ 2.5A) is okay. You can view the schematic on the first picture.
Non-monotonic power supply can be seen on the second picture, marked with yellow color. When something occurs, TPS54291 stops switching (same picture, pink color) and Vout drops and then turns on again.

I've calculated component values (Lmin ~ 5.7 uH) and chose 8.2uH for which the minimum capacitor value is ~22.78uF where I took actual value of 22uF. I've also tried with 6uH and 22uF.
I've summed up total capacitance on the 1.8V trail and it is below the maximum. We assume that maybe overcurrent is detected, but we're not sure. Do you think maybe something else is happening?

Filipa Bobinac
