TPS54160: Several TPS54160 charging the same battery pack

Hi everyone, 

I am using the TPS54160 to charge a lithium battery (1 cell) from a Solar cell: The VSENSE makes the output Voltage control loop and through the COMP we introduce and input voltage control loop for the solar cells. It works nicely.

Now I would like to charge the same battery with several SolarCell+TPS54160 units.  The TPS54160 outputs are connected to the same battery, they are measuring the same battery voltage but I am not sure if when the battery would be close to the reference voltage, how the individual voltage control loops are going to react. 

Our initial solution, is to null VSENSE (connecting a fix voltage >0.8V) and use again COMP pin to implement the voltage control loop in one of the units (master) and send this voltage (through a follower) to the COMP of the other units (SLAVES).  

Any better ideas? Any suggestion?

TPS62810-Q1: Load transient response

Hi,

I use TPS62180-Q1 as below figure 4.

To set Vout = 0.61V, I chose the value of R1&R2 is 1k&47kΩ.

In this condition, evaluating load transient, I got the result as below.

When load current is increasing, the drop of output voltage is small.

However, the overshoot is big after the drop.

When the value of Cff is changed (open, 10pF, 22pF, 100pF), the result is almost same.

Let me know how to reduce the overshoot.

BQ40Z50-R2: MAC command 0x0060 not working

On a BQ40Z50R2 v2.11 FW device (4500_2_11), all other MAC commands work fine except 0x0060, it returns 0 length in BQstudio using Advanced Comm SMB tab page. This command suppose to return Lifetime data block 1 as listed on BQ40z50 R2 TRM Page 112. 0x0061 to 0x0064 for other lifetime block work correctly. 

This 0x0060 command works fine on BQ40Z50R1 (4500_1_06) and BQ40Z50R3 (4500_3_09) FW of the same design. Anyone using 2_11 FW could you comfirm this please?

BQ40Z80: SMbus communication and Schematic check

Hi team,

Customer is using BQ40Z80 for 6S battery design.

They find the communication between their own MCU and BQ40Z80 is not good, the ACK  is received from slave after about 25ms.

And the ACK is received from slave after about several hundred of us for TI EVM. 

The result is as below.

(1) Their MCU+their BQ40Z80 board.-->Not good.

(2) Their MCU+TI BQ40Z80 EVM board.-->Good.

(3) TI EVM MCU+their BQ40Z80 board.-->Not good.

(4) TI EVM MCU+TI BQ40Z80 EVM board.-->Good.

So it seems this is caused by their Schematic design. Could you please help review it?

Hi ,

We are using LM2698 as boost converter. 

Input is 8.4V. 

Output = 12V 

We got 12V proper o/p. However we would like to use SHUTDOWN feature of same IC. Here we have controlled SHDN pin by means of Transistor. When we turned ON transistor, SHDN pin goes to zero but o/p does not switch from 12V to 0V rather it drops to only 9V. 

How to resolve this ?

LM76202-Q1: power limiting setup

Hi team,

I have a question about how to do power limiting with LM76202-Q1.

For example I need to limit input power at < 9W . The thing is that the input voltage can vary between 40V to 60V.  I took 9W and 40V so I have a maximum input current 225mA, I can limit this current by connecting a resistor to ILIM pin.

But the problem is that when input voltage goes higher for example up to 60V, the input power may exceed 9W, which is not acceptable. 

I'm now thinking by using a variable resistor connect to ILIM pin I can do variable current limit according to different input voltage, but the problem becomes how to change the resistance. 

How do you suggest on doing this? Thank you very much.

In the tps53681 Mutiphase controller datasheet,  (USER_DATA_00 - USER_DATA_12) is mentioned as read and write only register.But we are not able to set the value into the (B0 h - BC h).Please help us to resolve this issue and let us know if any sequence to be followed to set this register.

TPS54340: doubt about PMP4369 design

Hello team,

For PMP4369 design, I have checked the operation of enable/disable circuit block: 

Theoretically, this circuit should disable the device when the output voltage is greater than 13V, but I am not very sure of the circuit operation as Vout is a negative voltage. I have launched a simulation and for negative output voltages the enable pin will see a negative voltage as well, thus, the device will be disabled. Maybe I am making a wrong reasoning.

Please, I need further details about this circuit operation. Thanks in advance for your support.


LMR62421: package when using it as a sepic converter

Hi there,

I have a system supplied by a litium battery and I need to generate 12V and 3,8V. For the 12V generation I've choosen the LMR62421.

To minimize the number of different references I'm thinking of using the same ic to generate 3,8V, but the battery goes from 2.7V to 4.2V. I've seen in the datasheet that the LMR62421 can be used as SEPIC converter, but the example uses the WSON package, Can I use the SOT-23 package as SEPIC converter too? I wpuld like to confirm that because we are soldering ir ourselfs and the SOT-23 is easier to solder.

it would be a problem if I design the generation of 3.8V with the LMR62421 as boost controller? I mean, is there a problem if I have a 2,7 to 4,2V input and I use the LMR62421 as boost controller to generate 3,8V output? How would it work with a Vin > Vout?

BQ77PL900EVM-001: LDO Initialization fail

Hello,

To enable integrated regulator, 16V is applied to PACK pin and 37V is applied BAT pin.

At that time REG1 and REG2 output work well, and can set registers via BQ77PL900 evaluation software.

But if remove power from PACK pin, it doesn't work. 

Why this kind of symptom is occurred and how can fix it?

BQ40Z50: communication barrier

Hello, after many attempts to communicate with the gas gauge through the battery management studio GUI , I gathered some messages and operations which worked as expected from technical reference and some which are not. I would like to have your technical support about the steps i should do in order to work properly with the device:

1) reading messages using SMB protocol works good and the answers are correct( for example pack voltage or current)


2) Led toggle works as expected

3) fet enable or chg /dsch toggle works alternately , sometimes the fets remain closed although all the enable protections are disabled

4)voltage and current calibration works fine ,the data memory registers are changed according to the input calibrated values

5)the refresh button works alternately . when it does'nt work, after i presse  "REFRESH" , the commumication with the GUI disappear and i need to restart the program and the usb connection

6) the next message appears at the error line when the communication is gone :    "not able to find a free communication adapters"

7)when starting the BMS GUI the next message appears:" The selected device is not compatible with this application ! some actions could cause the device to lose communication permanently and enter an unrecoverable state .proceed at your own risk. select ok to continue, cancel to close this application. i proceed with ok  

8) when trying to calibrate the temperature sensor(internal or external) the GUI runs into an error which says :" calibration- calculated internal temperature sensor / external sensor correction is out of range"
additionally , the sensed temperature at the auto refresh main panel is -273.2 degC

9) when entering the  program ,the chemistry button at the upper toolbar disappears when trying to import a data memory file

10) i always keep the security mode at FULL ACCESS 

11) after trying to import a deafult file, the error message writes:" Parameter not written .classname Advenced charge algorithm, subclass name cell balancing config parameter name Min RSOC for balancing written to data memory failed readback verification ( it was 80% as deafult)

  • to conclude , these are some of results of using the GUI, what do i need to do in order to work with the device as it should ?
  • the gas gauge is new from the manufacture , do i need to do some initializtion or some configuration method before i apply voltage and start to work?
  • what is the difference bewteen 4500_0_12 and 9E34_0_01 at srart menu of the GUI?

BQ27Z561-R1: BQ27Z561-r1 sleep current

We supplied +2.8V into PCBA Vb on Debug bench, while the PCBA enter into standby mode, found the sleep current value is about 46ua, the other PCBA the sleep current is 15ua.The datasheet have not defined sleep current max limit. If the chip entry into sleep mode while the current is 46ua?
