regards,
I have been going in circles for the last few days trying to configure the bq40z50 for my test application. I thought I had the correct battery chemistry, but I am getting a R_DIS flag during the learning cycle which according to SLUA597[http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slua597/slua597.pdf] indicates that I have an incorrect cell chemistry selected. I want to use the battery management chip with a LiPo battery and it seems that the default ChemID of 0x0100 is not correct.
I was hoping to perform a chemistry learning cycle (as is described for the bq20 and bq30 chips), but I the bqEVSW software doesn't recognise the BQ40Z50. It complains that it requires an .encr file.
Up until now I have been using bqStudio to configure the chip, but it does not have the facility to perform a chemistry learning cycle, hence why I tried using the older bqEVSW.
I am using an EV2300 to communicate with the bq40z50.
I have also attached the .srec file, if that may be helpful.
How do I perform a chemistry learning cycle for the bq40z50?
Thanks for the help.

I'm having a bit of trouble deciphering how the PWRM pin on the BQ78350 works.
In the datasheet, I see it called out as an open drain connection, but I don't have any info as to what the polarity of it is. Furthermore, the application guide has this statement:
8.5 Power Mode Indication (PWRM)
Hi,
We wish to write a DFI file to BQ27520 Fuel gauge nonvolatile memory. We are familiar with SLUA548 doc which details how to do so, yet we would like shorten the development time and wish to know if you have a DLL file, command line for interfacing with the fuel gauge (alternatively, but less preferably, source code of a suitable program such as BQEASY is an option).

Hello,
I have a problem with the Gas gauge BQ34Z100-G1 while working with Pba EFB 70Ah battery (Varta E45):
while leaving the battery for rest the BQ34Z100-G1 resets its values and think that the battery SOC is 100%,
For example: The battery was 100%, I discharged it to 66%, I did let the battery rest and after about 40 minuts the gauge reseted its FCC,True RC and SOC value.
The log for the test is attached here, can anyone please help me understand whats causes the gauge to resets it's values?
It happens in sample number 5762.

In Section 9.3.4:
"If the IN pin voltage is between than [sic] VOUT+VDT and UVLO, ..."
In Section 9.3.7:
"After application of a 5V source, the input voltage rises above the UVLO and sleep thresholds (VIN>VBAT+VDT), but is less than OVP (VIN<VOVP,), then ..."
In Figure 16:
"Is power good?
VBAT+VDT < VIN < VOVP
& VUVLO < VIN"
In Table 2:
"Normal Input (VOUT + VDT < VIN < VOUP)"
Finally, in Section 8.6:
"Input power good if VIN > VOUT + VIN-DT"
It seems to me that there are a couple of typos in the above.
First of all, per the specifications (8.6), the input power is good if VIN > VOUT + VIN-DT. It might be clearer to everyone if that read "VIN > VOUT + VDT" unless, of course, one prefers to change all of the other referenced from "VDT" to "VIN-DT". (I'm not bothering with the subscripting here ... hope you get the idea!)
With that change, Table 2 is fine ... almost. In Table 2, change VOUP to read VOVP.
Figure 16 might be changed to read "VOUT+VDT < VIN < VOVP" unless you want to change all referenced to VOUT to VBAT. Better to just change Figure 16, IMHO.
In 9.3.7, the sentence above might better read "After application of a 5V source, the input voltage rises above the UVLO and sleep thresholds (VIN>VOUT+VDT), but is less than OVP (VIN<VOVP,), then ..."
Finally, the sentence in 9.3.4 should read "If VUVLO < VIN < VOUT+VDT, ..."
Or did I misunderstand something here?
Hi Tiers.
We designed battery-pack using BQ2084+BQ29312.
When battery-pack is not used, battery-pack's capacity is slowly decreased.
So in this case, We want to set sleep mode or ship mode.
But We don't know how to set these modes.
How can I set below sleep or ship mode?
How can I set the register STATE CTL(b0) or (b1)?
I am planning to use BQ34Z100-g1 IC for battery monitoring system of Lead Acid Batteries of 12V, 250 A. capacity. I got following queries while reading through the datasheet. your support is highly appreciated if following queries are answered

Hi, Tom,
I am using this LiPo battery pack. Does the battery need to connect both high current connector and 5-pin cell balance charging connector to the BQ40z60 charger board? Or only connecting 5-pin cell balance charging connector is good enough?

Hi,
I trying to read capacity and current from smart battery (sbdata 1.0).
The manufacurer send me these files:
https://www.ultralifecorporation.com/PrivateDocuments/WP_SMBus.pdf
https://www.ultralifecorporation.com/ecommerce/site/techdatasheets/UBBL13.pdf
I have EV2300, WinXP 32bit SP3, Visual Basic 6.
I downloaded the "ev2300 customer kit.zip" (before I installed the drivers) and open the "ev2300 vb example".
The read button always retrieve 0000.
I just want to read the battery capacity...
someone can help me?
Regards!
Hi,
When I'm setting the hibernation flag of the bq27621 from the host MCU (TM4C123GH6ZRB), I can see that the flag is cleared within 1 second (at the same time the OCVCMDCOMP is cleared and later set). Is this expected behavior? Do the host system need to enter low power mode (hibernate) within less than one second after requesting battery gauge hibernation?
Best Regards,

I am attempting to do Chemistry Learning Cycling on the following battery.
AW IMR 16340 550mAh
The chemistry is LiMN.
Yesterday I did a full bqEasy Chemistry auto cycle selection. This is in the bq Evaluation Software. I am using the bq25720EVM with latest firmware (G4)
However the returned chemistry ID is for a 1123
[124_Chem]
ChemID=1123
Description=LiCoO2/carbon 11, 4V
NumKnownCells=1
HF_Data=0
2OCV_Data=0
1=Sanyo: UR18650U (1100mAh)
What am I not getting here?
Before enabling chemistry selection, I charge to C/100. The current during discharge and cycling is 150mA via a constant current circuit.
PS. Should I be using bqStudio. The instructions with the EV2300 show all bq Evaluation Software.
If bqStudio and BQEVSW are matching only against the chemistry files, I can't find any 4.2V ~550mAh id's making me think maybe the match I obtained is good enough.
Tips?
My BQ40Z50 instantly drops its estimate for the Full Charge Capacity to 0 on discharge. Here is a graph from bqStudio that I plotted showing the error.
I am using the battery as a "backup battery" where power is provided from the battery (at 14A), if the main power supply drops out. Under testing the Full charge capacity suddenly drops to 0, hence the Remaining SOC also drops to 0. I was hoping to use the Remaining SOC to indicate that I need my application to shut down.
I have performed a learning cycle on the battery. The CF1 bit in LStatus is set and the Update Status is 06. The max error it is reporting is 1%.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why the Full Charge Capacity drops instantly to 0? I suspect it has something to do with some of my Data Memory setting being incorrectly set up for the Gas Gauging, but I don't know where to start looking.
Hi,
I have an optimized firmware with my Lead acid battery.
In fact, I learned to BQ optimized cycle, Chem ID... And everything is good.
Now, I want to verify gauge in my application. So I charged my battery and everything are OK.
But after that, when I discharged my battery under ~ C/2 I have a big problem:
Average time to Empty and SOC is too high at the end of discharge. See this below:
The discharge of battery are stopped under 8V ( < Vcell terminate voltage)
you can see that SOC = 20% and average time to Empty = 22min, it's a big problem for knowing cut of battery !
Can you explain why ?
Thank you,
Best regards,
Loïc
Hi,
I have some questions regarding the bq34z100-G1 EVM LED display.
I would like to set it up for 4 LEDs display mode. I have jumpers on J1, A,B,C,D of J6.
I have a battery connected to the EVM and it is about half full.
I pressed the LED display button but didn't see any LED lit up.
Do I need to connect the EVM to my computer and set the gauge to 4 LEDs display mode via TI Battery Management Studio software? What is the default setting for the EVM?
Second question:
"Setting Bit 3, LED_ON, will cause the LED display to be always on, except in Single LED mode where it is not applicable. When clear (default), the LED pattern will only be displayed after holding an LED display button for one to two seconds."
Let's say I want the LED display to be always on, so I set the bit 3. If I run out of battery or disconnect and reconnect my battery, will I need to reconfigure the LED display setting?
Third question:
The LED hold time is ranged from 0 to 255 and the default setting is 4. Can you clarify what is the "NUM" unit? Does setting LED hold time to 255 make the LEDs always on?
Thank you for your help,
Jeff
Hi
I want make goldan image of bq40z50r1 product.
But, I can't fined Hex Dump button(written in slua743.pdf) on bqStudio.
Please tell me how to hex dump, or how to know the ending row address of the data memory.
Hello,
I hvae bq34z100evm and trying to learn how to configure for 4-cell lion application. I am gonna use the ic for our medical device project. What Im stuck is the datasheet is not clear enough and does not show how to configure over I2C. Is there any example which shows how to configure over I2C since my application needs programming the ic over I2C. And does the IC contain the configuration when the power is off? Or should I configure again after.
Any help will be appreciated,
Thanks
I am graphing the voltage and current of a bq40z50. After several hundred points being graphed in the "Data Graph" tab, the points on the left hand side start disappearing as new points are added on the right hand side.
I would like to graph an entire charge cycle. Is the Data Graph tab limited in the number of points it can display?
Hi,
Is there any updated driver for EV2300 to support X64 better?
I have followed the installation guide and downloaded the driver as provided in links below but my PC still cannot recognize the tools.
Thanks.
I use a BQ34Z100-G1 with a 2S4P LI-ION.I manage to communicate with the gauge, but after several hours, my gauge sends back no more than 0 except my battery is completely in charge and presents physically in the system. After have de-energize of the gauge, I find well my data.
