Part Number:BQ27421EVM-G1A

We have used BQ27421YZFR-G1A Fuel Gauge in one of our custom board which is based on Qualcomm Processor.

And we used Qualcomm's PMIC8916 for charging purpose.

I am able to read-write I2C register of Fuel Gauge with processor, i able to get Voltage , current and SOC reading from Fuel Gauge.

Also able to change Default configuration parameter.

I have validated Voltage and Current reading using Multimeter and through reading respected I2C register, But what is proper method to validate SOC reading ?

Also Problem regarding Terminate Voltage, i have set it to 3000mV but then also Fuel Gauge report 0% SOC at ~3600mV battery voltage,

Please let me know if there is some known issue in configuration ?

Let me know if more information required on this.

BQ40Z50EVM-561: bq40z50EVM-561 : ChemId and Parameter Update

Part Number:BQ40Z50EVM-561

Hi,

We want to test programming the bq40z50EVM-561 with our ChemId and the related battery parameters.

Testing with resistor cell simulator (3S configuration - 1K resistor connected for each cell terminal connection and 15V applied across the cells using PSU).

The related ChemId has been successfully programmed as shown in the attachment below:

The CHEM_ID read is also correct.

The Battery charge voltage is 5V with the cell capacity of 3Ah.

But when I export the parameters, it shows the default voltage levels & values.

When the ChemID is programmed, will it not update all the related cell parameters into the battery gauge?

Do we need to manually update the parameters? If so, advice on which key parameters need to be set initially to proceed with the testing & evaluation.

Part Number:BQ20Z95

Hi All,

We noticed that our gas gauge does not adapt the DOD vs bat voltage correctly when the chip is used with sleep mode enabled. Voltage and current are measured correctly but Remaining Capacity stay stable (it should not).

So can anyone confirm that the IT gg algorithm is disabled when the sleep mode is enabled ?

Thanks by advance.

bq35100: Wrong measured Z with BQ35100EVM and LiSOCl2 battery

$

Part Number:bq35100

Support Path: /Product/Development and troubleshooting/Search the forums for my problem/

I have just started using the BQ35100 EVM with a LiSOCl2.

(1) I was unable to locate LiSOCl2 batteries in the chemistry database; I kept the default one.

(2)  Configuration of EOS mode is OK. Voltage, current and temperature readings are OK, but when issuing GAUGE_START/GAUGE_STOP commands sequences, the measured Z gets higher and higher and goes into saturation (i.e. 32767 or -32768). SOH_ERR and EOS_BAD_OCV are set.

Resetting the chip cause the measured Z to be reallistic againt (i.e. about 300 mOhms), but then measured Z gets erratic again (and increasing) when issuing new GAUGE_START/GAUGE_STOP sequences.

http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluub45a/sluub45a.pdf provides guidance on collection data to calculate the CEDV coefficients for the BQ2084. Please clarify the following:

1. We have a string of 2 cells (8.4V), does CellTermV refer to the string voltage or the cell voltage? (Some example data shows the string voltage terminating at 3000mV for this case)

2. How low (V/cell) should the string be discharged for data collection?

3. What time interval range should be used for data collection ( 1 data point per 4 seconds?)

BQ34Z100EVM: bq34z100g1 voltage calibraion: "calibration voltage entered is out of range"

Part Number:BQ34Z100EVM

Hello,

I am running bqStudio (version 1.3.54) on a 64-bit Windows 7 PC. I have the PC connected to an EV2300 (version 3.1r) which is connected through I2C to a bq34z100evm (firmware 0100_0_16). I am trying to get the gauge to read an accurate voltage as I have the BAT+/BAT- pins connected to a bench power supply.

I configured the device to read voltages above 5 V by setting the appropriate jumpers on J5 and J2; I set the VOLTSEL bit in the Pack Cfg register; I entered the Voltage Divider parameter to 16000 mV (the max expected voltage), and I changed the Number of Series Cells to 4. Everything else is default.

I have 10 V applied across BAT+/BAT- but the gauge is reading 8.32 V. I am trying to calibrate the device but when I enter 10000 mV into the Applied Voltage box I get the error "calibration cell voltage is out of range. This value is in millivolts. Please check value and retry."  How do I fix this?

If it helps, the Control Status Register is 0x0014, and the Pack Cfg register is 0x49D9. Flags is 0x1116, and Flags B is 0x2400.

BQ30Z554EVM: Require GG SW for bq30z55R3

Part Number:BQ30Z554EVM

We require this SW to read the lifetime values of the battery, and it appears this SW is only available by request.  I have tried every other verison of the SW and it does not work to provide the lifetime data, and our ODM says we need this version bq30z55-r3 to be able to do so.

I need TI to provide this SW to us, so we can continue our investigation on our defective batteries.  Rob

BQ27426: Trouble using BQStudio

Part Number:BQ27426

Hello,

I connected a custom board with a BQ27426 to an EV2400, connected in turn to a computer running BQStudio. BQStudio is able to identify the device (which is listed as 0426_4_26), but says it's not compatbile with that version BQStudio (v1.3.54, which I downloaded today). There is a listing for 0426_2_02-bq27426G1.bqz, but BQStudio claims they are not compatible, and that using it could brick the device. What should I do?

Thanks

BQ34Z100: Changing the configuration of the battery monitor

Part Number:BQ34Z100

Hi all,

We are working on a design, in which BQ34Z100-G1 battery monitor is connected to Arduino micro-controller.
We are trying to change the configuration of the battery monitor by changing some registers of the data flash. We are able to read the data flash registers correctly, but the write back is not working properly.
We are getting a checksum value - 0x00, after writing the calculated checksum.Because of this checksum issue, written data into flash is not reflecting when we read back after a reset.
Please find the attached log (battery_monitor.txt) for details.
We tried to read the firmware version register (Sub Class ID 56 , Offset 4). This returns value - 0x00.
Is there any issues with the default firmware present inside the battery monitor as suggested in this e2e link ?
Please point us to possible causes for this issue.
Looking forward to valuable suggestions.

Avinash

Part Number:BQ28Z610EVM-532

Hi Everyone,

I am trying  to evaluate BQ28Z610 EVM but I am not getting any output from the EVM, could you please guide me  to resolve this.

I am using the following configuration :

  1. Battery :7.4V/2600mAh,
  2. Li-ION
  3. Two combined cells giving 7.4V output and maximum 8.2V

Input wiring : I connected two wire battery at J2 (7.4V  at 2P and GND at 1N ) and shorted 2P+1P, connected J3 with EV2300 I2C

Output: at J1 I am not getting any voltage , as per my observation if we connect battery at J2 it should  pass the same voltage to J1 (pack+ and pack-) , then only my systems will powered up but here I am not getting that, please help me to resolve this .

Part Number:BQ27220

Hi all

My customer wants to use the BQ27220 and the BQ21040 to implement a gas-gauge / charger circuit.

Both parts can be connected to a the battery temp sense resistor.

Is it ok to connect both the BIN-pin of the BQ27220 and the TS-pin of the BQ21040 to the same NTC ?

If not: Can you share a reference-design / schematic as to how to implement such a design ?

Best regards

BQ34Z100EVM: cannot calibrate my bq34z100g1/evm

Part Number:BQ34Z100EVM

Hello,

I am running bqStudio (version 1.3.54) on a 64-bit Windows 7 PC. I have the PC connected to an EV2300 (version 3.1r) which is connected through I2C to a bq34z100evm (firmware 0100_0_16). I am trying to get the gauge to read an accurate voltage as I have the BAT+/BAT- pins connected to the +/- terminals of a 12 V lead acid battery.

I configured the device to read voltages above 5 V by setting the appropriate jumpers on J5 and J2; I set the VOLTSEL bit in the Pack Cfg register; I entered the Voltage Divider parameter to 13000 mV (the max expected voltage), and I changed the Number of Series Cells to 6. Everything else is at the default settings.

I have 12.4 V applied across BAT+/BAT- but the gauge is reading 8.4 V. I am trying to calibrate the device but when I enter 12440 mV into the Applied Voltage box I get the error "calibration cell voltage is out of range. This value is in millivolts. Please check value and retry."  How do I fix this?

If it helps, the Control Status Register is 0x0014, and the Pack Cfg register is 0x49D9. Flags is 0x1116, and Flags B is 0x2400 (see pic below). Note that the CALEN bit in the Control Status register is cleared: am I supposed to be in some kind of calibration mode? The bq34z100g1 data sheet mentions a calibration mode but there are no clear instructions in neither this data sheet nor the EVM user manual. Can somebody help?

BQ40Z50-R1: What's the temperature accuracy of BQ40Z50-R1?

Part Number:BQ40Z50-R1

Hi,

I have a question regarding BQ40Z50RSMR-R1: what’s the temperature tolerance for the device?

Let’s under below conditions: only using TS1, and external using 103AT-4-70261 10k 1% NTC thermistor

Could you please let me know under the above condition, what’s the accuracy(+/- how many degree) of a 25C temperature calibration I can expect? And after a temperature calibration, for a 62C over temperature during a charging threshold configuration, what’s the protection trip tolerance of it (62C +/- how many degree)? For a 72C over temperature during a discharging, what’s the tolerance of it (72C +/- how many degree)? Normally, for other TI fuel gauge devices, like bq20z, a 3C is enough, but for bq40z50, what is it?

Please let me know.

Thank you very much!

Joy

BQ27542-G1: Working with EV2400 and BQ27542

Part Number:BQ27542-G1

Hi,

After reading forums, I learned that there are few kinds of software for working with BQ27XXX ICs. So my question is going to be very silly but here it goes  - What software needs to be used with EV2400 for BQ27542? Is it BQStudio or BQEVSW or bqEASY or something else ?". Also, what do each of these tools do?

Is there any documentation explaining how to use EV2400 with BQ27542 chip which i missed to read ?. I went through the user guide of EV2400 but it did not mention the SW tool. Only EV2400 firmware update was described using Bqstudio.

Thanks in advance.

Prajwal
