Part Number:BQ27742-G1

I'm looking into using the bq27742-G1 but when I tried to load up a project for it in battery studio 1.3.54 it tells me that "the detected device is not compatible with this program"   Should I be using something else to configure the bq27742?

Thank you,

-Eric

BQ40Z50-R1: Can't enable cell balancing

Part Number:BQ40Z50-R1

Hello,

I am new to using the BQ40z50-R1 evaluation board and I wish to activate the cell balancing. I have been researching and reading the Technical Reference Manual and followed its instructions, but I can't seem to get it to work. The balancing configuration register has bit CB enabled and also CBR enabled, the Balancing time/mAh for all of my cells is configured to be 360 s/mAh, the minimum start balance delta is 3mV, and the Relax Balance Interval is 18000s. When the BMS enters rest mode the BAL_EN bit turns on as well as when it is charging. Although this bit is enabled, the cell balancing seems to be disabled since my battery cells remain with the same voltage they had before activating. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I would appreciate any help I can get.

Have a nice day

BQ20Z95: Fast Charge current and first and second level safety current settings

Part Number:BQ20Z95

In my system if the Fast Charge Current (C431 in the TRM) is set higher than the first (C221) or second level safety current (, the battery doesn't charge.  A TCA (terminate charge alarm) is set on the SMBUS.  If the FCC is set lower, the operation is normal.

We receive the batteries from a battery manufacturer programmed with FCC set higher.  I was hoping they knew what they were doing.

Should the first and second level safety current be set higher than the fast charge current?

BQ20Z65-R1: PFSTATUS 4000:0000 on bq20z65-R1

Part Number:BQ20Z65-R1

I have a battery that was returned from our customer for a failure analysis that was in a permanent fail state. The PF Status bytes were 4000 and 0000. The GUI for the evaluation states that this is reserved bit, but the bq20z65-R1 tech reference states that the bit indicates the battery shutdown after another PF bit was set (PFVSHUT.)

First, which is the correct definition of that status bit.

Second, if the bit is a reserved bit, what does it mean if it is set. If it is PFVSHUT, what conditions could cause that bit to be set with no other PF bits set in either PF Status register?

BQ40Z50-R1: Unable to activate CHG or DSG FETs when I do not have a fuse

Part Number:BQ40Z50-R1

Hi,

I'm using the BQ40z50-R1 BMS chip for a project. I redesigned the chip application based on the EVM module. I made some changes mainly to save on component cost and space on a small PCB.

One of the biggest changes was that I removed the entire FUSE circuit. Basically the FUSE PIN is not connected to anything. Also, made changes to account for a 2S battery pack. When I'm testing, the CHG and DSG registers are always inactive (i.e. 0). See below for a image of my bit registers from the bqstudio app.

Before connecting to a battery pack, and in order to current limit in case of failure, I'm using a power supply with a resistor divider for the 1P sense line. I'm assuming that it has something to do with the FUSE pins, but I could be wrong. I'm in FULL ACCESS mode.

When I tried to send 001D with 44 command on the Advanced SMD, I did not see any change. 001D is to disable FUSE according to the reference manual.

My question is what should I do on the firmware and hardware side to ignore the FUSE pin altogether. Should I pull down the FUSE pin?

Thanks,

Gode

Hi Sir,

Currently we design BBU system now, but have some question need you help.

1. What are difference about Charge Suspend&Charge Inhibit&Charge Disable ?

2. Current use 4 cell. we can setting VC1、VC2、VC3、VC5 ?  not setting VC1、VC2、VC3、VC4.

3. ExtAveEN (Bit 4) - we setting "0" , but each cell also can measurement.

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

Hi,

I am using BQ34Z1xx EVM and connecting it to bq studio using EV2400 over I2C .Iam unable to calibrate voltage parameter. I am using ~ 37V Lead Acid pack (3 batteries in series). The battery studio is showing me the pack voltage as 25.77  but the true voltage is 36.8 V.

Here is what I have done.

-bq studio 1.3.54 ,ev2400 Version 0.18

- have set the VOLTSEL bit, put a jumper across 48V on J2,put the voltage divider value as 39000mV in data memory register under calibration

Any help on this topic will be appreciated.

Thanks.

BQ40z50 SREC Programming

Hi Justin,

I also need to program SREC files using a custom tool we developed. What is the status of creating an app note on how to do this?

I recently had an issue where a supplier used bq40z50 parts for a design that called out bq40z50-R1. Using my tool to program only the DF portion of the SREC file (generated using bq40z50-R1) caused the IC to malfunction and it can no longer communicate. I'm not looking to fix this IC, but now it's critical that I be able to program the entire SREC file (DF and IF).

Jason

BQ27421-G1: How to read OpConfig() with extended commands

$

Part Number:BQ27421-G1

I am trying to read the Opconfig (and DesignCapacity()) using extended commands, like so:

//write extended command to chip control
Send( 0xaa (write chip address), 0x00 (control reg), 0x3B (op config extended subcmd), 0x3A (opconfig extended subcmd2))

//write control address to set up for read
Send(0xaa (write chip address), 0x00 (control reg))

//write read instruction to chip
Send( 0xab (read chip address))

//now read opconfig from control
Get(readopconfigLO, readopconfigHI)

And the data I always get back, whether sending opcodes for OpConfig or DesignCapacity, is 0x0421 - which is DEVICE_TYPE.
Clearly I've missed something in the 5 or 6 datasheets/appnotes describing comms with the device.
Is there any chance of a clear instruction of what bytes I should be sending via I2C to access OpConfig through extended commands?
Any working snippet will do! Much appreciated.

BQ78350: strange behavior on connecting load to BQ76940EVM with 14S10P configuration

Part Number:BQ78350

Hi,

I am a beginner to BMS and currently working on BQ76940EVM with EV2400. Initially i got success in connecting 9S1P with EVM and connected load successfully. I monitored this setup with BQstudio. After verifying this i moved to my new package 14S10P... but the problem comes in when i connect load to this package. On connecting load DSG=0 and SS=1, XDSG=1 which takes EVM to safe mode. I configured DATA Memory settings according to the package and chemistry, but still not getting what is the reason for this error. I think i am missing something in configuration. Need help over this. thank you

BQ34Z100-G1: I cannot finish the calibration

$

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

Dear all,

I designed my PCB (portable device, 1 Li-Ion cell of 3.7V, 1100mAh) with the gas gauge BQ34Z100-G1. I followed the instructions from the document SLUA334b.pdf (with close Qmax value) and I made 4 cycles so far but the "Learned Status" is still at 0x04 and the MaxError is still at 100%.

I always respected the relax times... I did the calibration (Voltage, Current, CC offset and board offset).

What I noticed is sometime, when my circuit is idle, I saw the current going to -1ma (which is very low but the current consumption should be 0mA when my circuit is idle). Do you think I can have a CC offset or board offset issue? As well, I put the deadband current to 1mA (now 2mA), would it be a problem for the learning phase?

Moreover, I use a protection circuit (BQ29700) that switches the MOSFET off when the battery voltage drops below 2.8V and I always wait on this event. This could be another issue or is it OK ?

Best,

Christian

BQ34Z100-G1: Fuel Gauge reports incorrect remaining capacity at -20C

$

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

I am using a BQ34Z100-G1 Fuel Gauge with a Lithium-Ion battery pack with two series, and four parallel. The terminal voltage of the battery at full charge is 8.4VDC. My fuel gauge is reading 91% with a battery voltage around 8.1VDC. When I take the battery to -20C, the percent charge changes down to 54% after a short load. I believe that I have something set incorrectly in the image, as the smart battery has a BQ2084 which is still reading 84%. My voltage on the battery at -20C is 7.75VDC. What parameter should I be looking at to fix this? I changed the pack configuration C to include smoothing and was going to try that. Do you have any suggestions?
