BQ27220EVM-744: Layout GND pad

BQ34Z100-G1: Unable to do Voltage Calibration, although temperature calibration appears to work OK

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

We have a BQ34z100-G1 incorporated in the prototype PCB for our new product. Using bq Studio we can read registers and set data memory without any apparent problems.

the bq is set up for 7 series LION cells and this information is programmed into the bq via bq studio in accordance with the data sheet SLUSBZ5B revised July 2016.

The problem is that on the calibration page (in bq studio) the voltage gauge is showing 65529mV and when I enter an actual measured voltage of 27850 mV, the calibration fails with the message:

"Calibration - Calibration cell voltage entered is out of range. This value is in millivolts. Please check value and retry."

In case it was expecting a cell voltage I also tried dividing the stack voltage by 7 and entering that number, but is still rejected it.

We can't find anything wrong in the flash data settings, so we don't know what to try next.

Data settings that differ from the single cell defaults are:

Design capacity:1067

Design Energy: 26667

Design Energy Scale: 30

Pack configuration: e9e1

Pack configuration C: 30

Number of series cells: 7

Voltage divider: 32000

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

BQ78350-R1: LED Pin

Part Number:BQ78350-R1

Hi, I am having questions about the LED pins on BQ78350-R1 IC.

The first question is if the LED pins are open drain or cmos? Then if the pins are not used, what should I do? Do I leave them there or I need to ground them? If I need to ground them, do I need to add resistor to each LED pin?

Thank you very much!

BQ20Z655-R1: FCC is not updated correctly when using the cell chemistry ID

Part Number:BQ20Z655-R1

I am using the Bq20z655-R1 in a battery pack 4S3P (14.8V - 10200 mAh) using the Sanyo Panasonic cells model NCR18650BF.

The EVSW was updated using the last chemistry updater.

The NCR18650BF chemical ID is 2142.

After programming and calibrating the pack, even leaving it resting for 5 hours, the FCC showed does not correspond to the actual value. It is showing FCC of 7979mAh. I have tested the pack (charging and discharging at C5) and, the actual capacity is 10170 mAh.

Please let me know how to correct this discrepancy.

Thanks,

Ronaldo

BQ20Z95: Max Error set to 139% and Cycle count register set to 65443 after 1 or 2 cycles

Part Number:BQ20Z95

I have just received reports fromt he field that a small sample of batteries is experiencing an issue with the cycle counter and max error register. After being deployed into service and 1 or 2 cycles performed ont he battery pack (unsure of exact use case, more info still trickling in) the cycle counter has moved to 65443 and the max error register is showing 139%. I don't know what this means or how they could have gotten to these numbers. We have manufactured many 10's of thousands of these packs and are very confident the settings are pretty good. I have attached a screen shot for diagnostic reasons.

Anyone seen this behavior before? Or anything similar? I know about the 144% and the internal and external cycle counters not being aligned, and that is not the issue here, as far as I know since its not showing 144, its showing 139%.

Thanks for your help.

BQ34Z100-G1: Can I use 3.3V system with this fuel gauge?

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

Hi. Previously we had batteries with bq3060 in them. These battery packs didn't have internal pull ups so we put 5.1Kohm resistors to pull up the SMBus lines to 3.3V.

Now our manufacturer changed the bq3060 to bq34z100-g1. In these battery packs there are pull ups to 2.4V on I2c line.

Now when there is communication between my device and bq34z100-g1 the high voltage is about 2.8v.

I was wondering can this harm the fuel gauge?

I am asking this because strange things have happened: I have been using one of these bq34z100-g1 battery packs for month and nothing bad has happened. Now I tried to connect another battery pack with bq34z100-g1 to my device and it fried the MCU after a while. I only connected the I2C lines and ground. The battery pack is working fine when I connect it with Ev2300, but I am afraid to connect it to another of my devices.

Can someone please give me an advice?

Part Number:BQ40Z60

My custom board is based on the reference design, with 2s Li-ion config. Everything works fine in most of the cases except that the RSOC somehow jumping during normal usage. Can you please have a look on this screenshot? I have attached the .srec file too for the easier error detection. This is not a one-time error, I can reproduce with tens of my boards, always.

BQ34Z100-G1: Can this fuel gauge terminate charging ?

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

Hi. Battery pack that we are using is equipped with BQ34z100-g1. I noticed that battery pack is charging even though the termination conditions are met.

So my question is :Does Bq34z100-g1 only use these parameters(taper voltage, current etc.) to determine when battery is full but does not interrupt charge?

The charge interruption should be done by charger or by the protection and balancing solution?

BQ76930EVM: BQ76930 Pack Current

Part Number:BQ76930EVM

hi everybody

I have BQ76930EVM and I connected to the IC trough I2C and i am getting the cell voltages very well.

the problem happens during reading current. the only registers that are contributed to current are CC_HI(0x32) and CC_LO(0x33) which are Coulomb counting value.

how can I convert this value to Pack charging or discharging current ??

there is a formula in the datasheet that mentions this: CC Reading (in µV) = [16-bit 2’s Complement Value] × (8.44 µV/LSB)
but it does not seem to work for my purpose.

thanks in advance

BQ27441-G1: Jump in SOC reading

$

Part Number:BQ27441-G1

Hi,

Please find the attached  Graph lower half represents, graph between SOC and time, it has three section, first section we are making some mistake during calibration ie not updating battery capacity all configuration are at default value.

My first question even though I am not updating capacity and other  2-3  parameters described in  SLUUAP7 ie Quick start guide for BQ27441-G1  my understanding is it should show linear (although reading will not be correct )behaviour of  SOC not sudden jump as shown in graph. Please let me understand the how this  IC predicts SOC and why it is not showing linear behaviour.

Third section of lower half ie discharging curve showing linear behaviour is obtained after updating 4 parameters described in  SLUUAP7 ie Quick start guide for BQ27441-G1. We observed that still there is jump in SOC ie 3-4% that two happen after some GSM transmission (ie higher current requirment).

1) Please let me understand why this jump happening?

2) Does  IC take the average of reading?

3) We are reading SOC every 10  min and transmitting data over cloud after every 1 hour. It takes 2-3 reading to come back again at previous reading. so   I  am assuming sudden burst current should not disturb 2-3 reading ie reading for 30 min.

BQ27741-G1: Using BQ27741-G1 in solar application

Part Number:BQ27741-G1

Hi,

We are connecting one of our board with solar panel in such a  configuration it can run from solar as well as battery. Suppose our battery is totally drained we don't want to run load from solar panel till batterry don't have 3-4 % SOC. My question is can i rely one SOC reading for switching on my load as when load is off it will   consume  few mA but otherwise it will consume 700 mA typically and 2Amp of burst current.what should be correct way to avoid  insufficient power availiblity condition.

BQ27421-G1: Measure the SOC of removable battery

Part Number:BQ27421-G1

Can BQ27421-G1A correctly measure the SOC of removable battery if it is charged in an external charger?
For example,
you turn off the device,
pull out the battery (disconnect it from BQ27421),
insert another battery with identical chemistry and capacity.
How accurate fuel gauge could measure battery SOC in this case?

BQ40Z50-R1: Reserve battery capacity checking

Part Number:BQ40Z50-R1

HI, all

In my project, i want to reserve 1.2Wh when the RSOC is report to 0%. We are checking the reserved capacity under different load(20%, 50%, 80% of max power).

What i set for reserve capacity is 120cW.  However, only 900mWh is reserved during 80% of max power(RT).

From TRM, this parameter is compensated by discharge rate.

Note, 1.2Wh is reserved during 20% of max power(RT).

           load mode = 1 (power)

load select = 3 (average voltage x average current)

BQ40Z50-R1: Communication problems with BQSTUDIO

$

Part Number:BQ40Z50-R1

Hello,

I am working with the BQ40z50-R1 to build a BMS for a lithium battery pack. The battery pack has a 3S cell configuration, each cell has a nominal voltage of 3.7V. After receiving the circuit from a third party company that designed the BMS, I can't seem to connect to BQSTUDIO since it doesn't recognize the BMS. When I try connecting the cells to the BQ40z50-R1 EVM it works perfectly, so I'm guessing the problem is either the way the PCB was made or something in the configuration the designers programmed. Also, to communicate I am using the EV2400. Attached find a section of the schematic showing how the SMB pins were connected.

If the connection is ok (I already verified in the PCB it is indeed connected as shown), is there anything in the configuration that could cause a permanent shutdown? Any suggestion on what to do would be appreciated.

Thank you very much,

Luis
