Part Number:BQ27742-G1

Hello , We are using BQ27742-G1 in our design for measuring battery capacity of two 18650 cells connected in parallel. My question is what happens if the Battery is applied in reverse to BQ27742 pins ? is there any protection against same or do you suggest any external circuit to protect against such an event?

BQ40Z60: Current measurement

Part Number:BQ40Z60

Hello everyone. I make a smart power supply using BQ40Z60. My configuration is 3s1p, 15 V adapter voltage, 1,7 A charging current.
I have configured chemistry and done all the calibrations. Everything works fine, and reported values are close to measured ones.
However, when I try to connect a charger, it works, and the measured curent is really 1,7 A, but the reported current value in BQ Studio is about 5 A!

Of course, it sets CHGC protection flag. I turned it off, but I don't feel right about it.
I am really confused why the consumprtion current is what it should be, but the reported current is so off. Can it be a layout issue?

I will really appreciate any help.

Part Number:BQ78350-R1

Hi,

If I want to use the system presence detect capability, do I need to externally pull the /PRES pin high; or is it internally pulled high, if so, what is the internal pull-up value?

What would be the max pull-down resistance from the system side?

Thanks

Hello,

Im having a problem with some batteries that uses the BQ20z95 in their BMS and i need to change their cells for new ones.

I want to replace the cells and then reset the BMS, but as I can see the BQ is sealed:

When I try to read the data flash info the following error appear: Error reading Data Flash Subclass Voltage, Code=6

Can you please send me unseal codes.

If I replace the cells and then import a golden image it will be fine, right?

Many thanks!!

BQ27220: Using BQ27220 in a 2-cell NiMH arrangement

$

Part Number:BQ27220

Hello,

My local TI sales rep has been working with the Battery Management Group to find a gas gauge solution for a 2-cell NiMH device I have.  To date, it looks like the BQ27220 + TPS61098x boost DC:DC is the best solution.  We already use the BQ2002E for the NiMH charging system, have been for years.  In my application, the BQ27220 will be on the "system" side.   The TPS61098x will get its power from a diode-or'd configured 3.3V and NiMH battery voltage.  I understand that I am using the BQ27220 only as a coulomb counter.  I have a few questions regarding operation.

1.       I'm assuming that TI's recommendation to use the BQ27220 (intended to Li-Ion cells) will work as a coulomb counter in our 2-NiMH configuration, correct?

2.       Since we are using the BQ27220 in the "system" side, can the chip operate as intended if we don't use the OTP Flash and just use RAM for battery profiling?

3.       The register set of the BQ27220 looks much like the BQ27210.  All coulomb data is read-only and data is not restorable should 3.3V go to 0V and the battery voltage down to 1.8V.  This will mandate the use of a boost converter in order to retain coulomb data (TPS61xxx).

4.       In the register table (page 16 of SLUUBD4), states that the TEMP register is R/W and the ARTTE register is RO.  In the BQ27210, TEMP is RO and ARTTE is R/W.  I'd assume that SLUUBD4 is incorrect.

5.       Like the BQ27210, the BQ27220 is going to be in production for at least 5 more years, correct?

6.       Is there any protection for the BAT, SRP, SRN pins should the batteries be put in backwards (or TI recommended external protection)?  The TPS61xxx DC:DC boost is protected since the battery voltage and 3.3V are diode-or'd.

- It appears that only the BAT pin will need protection if SRP and SRN are used for lo-side current sensing (see datasheet, page 12).

- Should BAT be connected to the 3.3V input instead of + of the battery?  I know that the battery voltage (VOLT register) will always read 3.3V.

Thanks,

Part Number:BQ78350-R1

Hello,
customer uses the bq78350 with an ARM MCU. He recognise that the bq78350 SMBus has clock stretching >2ms and longer (after start 2ms to 8ms). The data are only requested every 100ms and the BMS is not charging or discharging. Is there a possiblilty to reduce the clock stretching timings?

BQ34Z100-G1: Wrong SOC calculations at higher currents.... Sudden ramp fall....

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

Hi,

I got bq34z100 monitoring 7s2P stack of INR18650-20R. Some test runs on the Bpacks are monitored well and SOC calculations occurs propely. But quite often I can repeat situation in which when discharging with 20A or more suddenly at SOC=60% there is hard SOC decrese ramp and SOC falls down to 0 in 10-15 sec instead of couple of minutes. Usually test runs using 10-15Amps are quite OK.

Where should I look for a problem?

And more:

If I find correct coefficients (Ra etc.) is there any way to upload then into bq already in an application? I mean is there a chance to upload golden file (128kB) into a BQ in small chunks that I be able to store in memory of my HOST MCU, or could I upload only changed Ra parameters via I2C.

Dears,

We think battery is a complex system. when discharge in high or low c-rate will have different behavior.

Dose the Impedance Track  algorithm can handle SOC accuracy when average  discharge current is 2c or more.

Hi,

My customer is looking for a low cost Fuel Gauge solution for 2S application, customer will use it on system side.

I recommended BQ27441+ OP (as a buffer before the BQ27441 to divide the 2S voltage to 1S).

could you please comment if BQ27441+ OP is a suitable solution?  if yes, could you please share with me some successful stories with reference schematic?

For OP selection, which parameters are critical for this application?

Part Number:BQ28Z610

Hello,

we use the BQ28Z610 to protect our Lithium-Ion Battery-Pack. We have the Problem that the Relative State of Charge (RSOC) is ever on 100%. Attached you will find my srec file. Do you have an idea, what I must change to get the right RSOC? I started the learning cycle but the Update Status didn't change after  Battery was fully charged and after a relax time more than 2 hours. Is the learning cycle mandatory to get a RSOC less than 100%.

It looks like it has all the required messages but I can't find anywhere in the datasheet or reference manual where it states that it is fully compliant.  In order for me to state that my pack is compliant I need to refer to some TI documentation that states that the BQ40Z50-R1 is compliant.

BQ27441-G1: no filter on RSENSE?

Part Number:BQ27441-G1

There seems to be no mention of any filter network for the sense resistor pins in the BQ27441-G1 datasheet.  It is usually recommended in most other TI gas gauge datasheets I have seen.  Is the filter not necessary for this part, or would it still be beneficial to add it?

BQ27421-G1: Potential risks if the pull-down resistor on BIN was to fail

$

Part Number:BQ27421-G1

Hi,

We are considering using TI’s BQ27421-G1 Fuel Gauge in a future product. We are planning to include a 10K pull-down on BIN pin as recommended by the datasheet, and I would like to know if there are any potential risks if the pull-down resistor was to fail. In particular, if the resistor was to fail short circuit. In section 6 of the datasheet, the Pin Functions table states that:

NOTE: The BIN pin must not be shorted directly to VCC or VSS and any pullup resistor on the BIN pin must be connected only to VDD and not an external voltage rail.”

However, Table 2-2 of the BQ27421-G1 Technical Reference Manual (SLUUAC5) states that:

(1) Host drives BIN pin from logic high to low to signal battery insertion.  OR

(2) A weak pull-up resistor can be used (between BIN and VCC pins). When a battery pack with a pull-down resistor is connected, it can generate a logic low to signal battery insertion.

This implies that the BIN pin can be shorted to VSS by the host which contradicts the datasheet. Would you be able to provide some clarification if it is safe to short the BIN pin to VSS?

Thank you.

Regards,

DJ
