BQ40Z50-R1: Chem ID for Different Version of Same Cell Part Number

$

Part Number:BQ40Z50-R1

Hi Team,

My customer is using Samsung cell INR18650-29E. BQStudio shows Chem ID #2019 for that PN, but it shows 2850mAh and my customer's cell is 2750mAh. Is it safe to say that as long as they program the correct design capacity this is the Chem ID they should use? Or since their cell is a different capacity (with the same PN), would they need to run GPCCHEM?

Thanks,

Antonio

BQ20Z95: bq20z95 SubClass of 'IC part number' in DataFlash Classes

Part Number:BQ20Z95

 Dear support,

While programming bq20z95 through DataFlash SubClasses me can not figure out appropriate SubClass and offset for 'IC part number' which should be returned by Manufacture Access sub command 0x0001.

The same is for Manufacture Access subcommands 'Firmware Version' 0x0002 and 'Hardware version' 0x0003 which all are Read-only and couldnot be edited.

Datasheet also refers to SBSCommand Manufacture Data 0x23, where it's possible to Read/Write parameters like PCB Code, H.Ware and F.ware versions but in DataFlash programming manual me found that these values, DataFlash Subclass 58, are just for information and couldnot be relied upon when referencing to Device Type, Hardware and Firmware versions.

Kindly advice how to correctly programm required values through DataFlash SubClasses commands.

Thanks a lot for reply!

BQ34Z100: BQ34Z100-G1 battery pack 29Ahr limit

Part Number:BQ34Z100

Hi,

One question about the battery monitor BQ34Z100.

For a project, we have choose this chip to manage a 30Ahr NiMH battery pack.

I recently see that BQ34Z100 is now NRND and you propose BQ34Z100-G1 to replace it.

But in the technical information, you wrote that BQ34Z100-G1 support battery pack up to 29Ahr...

So my question is : Will the BQ34Z100-G1 work with a 30Ahr battery pack ? It's possible to modify this 29Ahr limit in the chip config ?

Thank's in advance for a quick answer

bq20z90: PLSOFF flag

Part Number:bq20z90

Hello,

In the bqEval software under the Charge Status flags, what causes the PLSOFF to get set?  We are testing a 4S3P LFP pack (22.2Ah) and charging at 8A.  When the packs is almost full and the charge current drops to around 2A, the PLSOFF flag turns on and the CHG FET turns off.  Several seconds later, the PLSOFF flag is off and charging resumes.  Then the charge on/charge off cycle repeats.  I would like to stop the PLSOFF flag from turning on.  Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,

Kevin

BQ28z610: Programming Chem Id using I2C

Part Number:BQ28z610

Hi,

How do I programmed the chem id to this fuel gauge? I'm trying to follow "setting design parameters" and am getting a little confused. The device chemistry register on the flash is a 5 char long register, which is default to LION, but from the looks of things bqstudios supplies a chem id as a number?

The battery I am using is two NCR18650B in series, which chem id is (2012/2017). There is a Chem Id register accessible using the altManufacterAccess() commands but this is only read only.

Any ideas?

BQ27541-G1: Out of range FilteredCompensatedCapacity

$

Part Number:BQ27541-G1

We are experiencing a strange manufacturing issue with the BQ27541-g1 fuel guage. On about 10% of the units, the capacity (filtered) and state of charge are reported incorrectly. The problem is fixed by sending a 'reset' command to the fuel gauge. Upon further investigation we observed that, on all these units, prior to the reset command, the FilteredCompensatedCapacity is way out of range. Here are some example values.

Prior to reset:

nominalAvailableCapacityMah[12]:1618
fullAvailableCapacityMah[14]:2393
remainingCapacityMah[16]:1623
fullChargeCapacityMah[18]:5796
averageCurrentMa[20]:-37
timeToEmptyMinutes[22]:2705
filteredCompensatedCapacityMah[24]:5796

...
designCapacityMah[60]:2420

After reset:

nominalAvailableCapacityMah[12]:1604
fullAvailableCapacityMah[14]:2376
remainingCapacityMah[16]:1500
fullChargeCapacityMah[18]:2272
averageCurrentMa[20]:-37
timeToEmptyMinutes[22]:2500
filteredCompensatedCapacityMah[24]:2272

...

designCapacityMah[60]:2420

My question: What would cause the filtered compensated capacity to ever exceed 'Full available capacity' or design capacity.

I have a customer that wants to know if we ave an EVM available for this device. On ti.com, we have a link to an EVM, but this module is for BQ20z95, and makes no mention of the BQ34z950 in its documentation that I could find. Do we make an evaluation module for this product?

BQ27441-G1: Accurately determining state of charge

$

Part Number:BQ27441-G1

We are planning to use the BQ27441 fuel gauge and BQ24075 charger in our system. I'm fairly new to all these battery terms and mechanics, but while going through some datasheets and videos, I noticed that the Impedance Tracking algorithm talks about an open circuit voltage. I also know that the BQ24075 has a SYSOFF pin the cut the battery off from the system load, effectively providing that open circuit voltage for the B27441 gauge. Just to clear my understanding a little, is it necessary for the BQ27441 to see an open circuit voltage from the battery in order to accurately determine the battery's state?

Thanks,

William

BQ27542-G1: Expected Temperature Measurement Accuracy when using NTC=10K 1%

Part Number:BQ27542-G1

Team,

- What’s the expected temperature measurement accuracy when using NTC=10K 1% , B25/35=3435 1%?

- Is there any specific action (for example calibration) on the pack maker side to make sure the expected level of accuracy is achieved? If so, can you please provide more details?

It looks like the pack maker is currently providing a +/-3C accuracy which is pretty surprising.

Please let me know – it’s a pretty urgent matter.

Thanks

BQ27441EVM-G1A: Questions about obtaining ChemID procedure

Part Number:BQ27441EVM-G1A

Hello,

We are planning to use the BQ27441 fuel gauge and we've ordered the evaluation kit to play around with it. From what I understand, I need to obtain a ChemID and input that ID into the fuel gauge. I'm looking at the following guide: www.ti.com/.../slva725.pdf and I just have a couple of questions:

  1. On step 2, it saids: "Charge using CC/CV charging to full, suing taper current, for example C/100." What is 'C'? I'm guessing that is the battery capacity (for example 2400 mAh)
  2. Is it necessary to discharge the battery completely before performing the test? Or can I start with a fully charged battery and record the relaxation period?

Thanks,

William

BQ27441-G1: Gas gauge operation with 1s2p battery pack

Part Number:BQ27441-G1

I'm starting with a charging/monitoring circuit shown below:

Note that the battery pack I need to use is configured as two cells in parallel.   I understand from this post, that the two cells should self-balance during charging:

e2e.ti.com/.../472881

However, I'm unsure how the BQ27441 fuel gauge device will work.   Can this device be configured to properly report charge level for a 1s2p battery pack?  If not, can you recommend a suitable device for this application?

Note, the specific battery pack I need to use is:

BQ78350-R1: Data flash read byte order on SMBus not according to datasheet

Part Number:BQ78350-R1

Hi,

I am implementing a monitoring system that reads data from the BQ78350-R1 BMC (which in turn is connected to a BQ76940 AFE). I need to read some configuration parameters from data flash and it seems that the data arrives in big endian, although the manual (sluubd3c) states the order to be little endian.

Please see the attached communication log when reading the "CUV" setting from the "Protections" block. It has address 0x44CC and is configured to 2850mV (0x0B22) from BQ-Studio.

Is this the expected response or is there a risk of the BMC being configured incorrectly by BQ-Studio (unlikely as it seems)?

Best regards

BQ40Z60: Doesn't shutdown when overvoltage occurs

$

Part Number:BQ40Z60

Hello,

We are using your BQ40Z60 in our design for about two years.

Last week we got four batteries from our customers which had an overvoltage.
The cell voltages went up to 4,3V which caused the external BQ294701 to blow the fuse.

After discharging we tested the batteries and everything works correctly and we can not reproduce the problem.

Till now we've had about 1k batteries without a problem which have the same firmware as the overcharged batteries.

Has anyone got an idea why the BQ40Z60 didn't cut off the charging? I attached the settings and .srec file.

Kind regards,

Svenn
