BQ40Z50-R1: The RSVD flag of the BQ40Z50-R1 is written to 1 and cannot be charged

Part Number:BQ40Z50-R1

Hi,all:
I found a problem during the use of the BQ40Z50-R1:
The battery pack is connected to the power supply board and will be found to be incapable of recharging.
Unplugging the battery pack and externally connecting the constant current regulated power supply can recharge the battery pack.
The power board uses the LTC1760 to read battery information.
Reading the register through BQ Studio finds that there are two RSVD flags set, resulting in the power board can not be charged.
I think this is not a problem with the BQ40Z50-R1 that cannot be recharged, but why connecting the LTC1760 will cause RSVD to be set. How can this problem be avoided and solved?

The bit2 and bit5 in the figure will be written to 1 and cannot be charged

I can successfully use my host device to send read and write commands. I have followed the flash stream API document to implement flashing a bq.fs file to the bq35100.

My host device processes up until the second Compare command.  (Snippet of file below)

As you can see the value expected is 00 but the value that my host device reads from the bq35100 is 02.
It is important to note that it appears that the previous write command W: 16 64 60 2B appears to fail each time. So perhaps this is the root cause?
I have tried to manually enter the commands using bqstudio Advanced Comm Tab. However, it does not let me enter the long (100 commands long) write.
After trying many different things I appear to have bricked my BQ35100. I do have another one.
What may be causing this to fail?
Kind Regards,
Michael

BQ34110: Data memory "pack" vs "cell" and calibration scaling

Part Number:BQ34110

hello - working with bqStudio, bq34100. Going ok but I need clarification on 2 configuration aspects:

1. I have to scale Rsense ADC such that ~90A is just below the 32768 cap.

When I scale the current-measurement in calibration, what other data fields do I need to apply the scale factor to (or is it all run-time calculated by the GG)?

2. SLUUBF7 TRM states only DesignCapacity() and LearnedFullChargeCapacity() applicable to  the battery "pack" (8s4p in my case).

Can you tell me what other data fields refer to "pack" values versus "per-cell" values when setting up the configuration?

thanks. -pete u.

BQ40Z60: BQ40Z60 - Unstable VSYS output

Part Number:BQ40Z60

HI. I needed a battery charging module for an application circuit, and I made the circuit and board using the BQ40Z60EVM and data sheet.

After a few errors, the charging circuit is working properly, but VSYS is too unstable when operating only with batteries without VAC.

The VSYS voltage (12V) is measured by the DMM. However, if I connect a load using a 12V current source, the voltage on VSYS will go back and forth between 0 and 12V.

And the tic-tingling sound that is supposed to come from the inductor is heard in the circuit.

I attached log file and gg file. If someone have any probable cause, please let me know.

Part Number:BQ78350

Hi,

When I connected the my board to Computer through EV2400 Interface, I could enter some parameters at the beginning. After a few connecting and removing, the battery management studio doesn' t work and communicate my board. Sometimes the program receives the address of my board then the connection is interrupted again.

I am using the 36-48V reference board of the Texas Inst.

Do you have any suggestion to solve problem? Thanks in advance.

Hi.
I do repair laptop battery Samsung AA-PB9NC6B. Device bq20z453R1 v1.12.
I have Ev2300. The device is already unsealed. But you need to change the parameters of chemister ID, and calibrate.
I downloaded software 6082.bqEVSWSetup00.09.59_bq20z45R1v1.05R1, but it is not suitable for this device.
You can give me a link to Evaluation Software for bq20z453R1 v1.12 to read data flash and change parameters and calibration?

BQ27541-V200: Communicating with the listed Gas Gauge via HDQ using Windows 10

Part Number:BQ27541-V200

Our medical customer must verify compliance of the tool used to communicate with the TI device via HDQ and their computer. They had used bqEVSW which does have SW for the bq27541-V200 via HDQ, and a Windows 10 computer but TI says this combination is not validated with Win10.  It was suggested that they use bqStudio but that does not directly support the version of bq27541 in use.  Other than finding a Windows 7 computer how can this be solved?

BQ40Z60: Remove SDM Bit Operation Status B

$

Part Number:BQ40Z60

Hello,

I am using a BQ40z60 chip in a custom-designed circuit, and my question is regarding the SDM Bit in Operation Status B.

Currently SDM is set (red); therefore, XCHG and XDSG are both set (red) as well. I am attempting to discharge the battery, which requires XDSG to not be set (green).

What steps are needed to unset the SDM bit (turn it green), which would then unset XDSG as well? I have tried 2 different options to achieve this:

1) Provided a voltage to VACP pin of the BQ40z60 greater than Power->Shutdown->Charger Threshold Voltage

2) Reset the device using the RESET command

3) Cycled SYS_PRES from Set to Unset, and then Set again

None of these attempts helped.

Are there any other recommended thresholds to be adjusted?

Thank you!

BQ27531-G1: Restart new learning cycle (Update Status 0 = 0x02 blocked)

$

Part Number:BQ27531-G1

Hello,

I am using bq27531EVM and my new type of battery. I have followed the process mentioned in the documentation in order to adapt the gauge system for this type of battery. The seguence is as follows:

  1. Get Chemical ID:
    1. Perform a relax-charge-relax-discharge and then send the log (.zip) to web tool of TI.
    2. Program the ID reported in bq27531
  2. Perform a learning cycle:
    1. I have followed the procedure mentioned in different documents and after severals tries it seems to be working properly (Update status = 0x02, SoC evolution is working as expected)

However, when I try to repeat the learning process with another battery in order to compare the results I am not able to restart the procedure. The sequence I use is:

Initial conditions:

QEN = 1, Update Status = 0x02

Start procedure:

Send IT_ENABLE command

Send RESET command

At this point Update Status should be 0x00, but it is equal to 0x02. I think this is the problem. It seems as if the learning process has not finished properly and no new learning cycles can be initiated.

Could you help me?

Thanks,

Eduardo

BQ34Z100-G1: Configuration using a host

$

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

I am working with the fuel guage IC (bq34z100) for the first time.

I had few questions reagarding the same. I request youo respond:

1) Is the bqstudio software necessary, for the configuration of bq34z100 IC?

[I have a custome hardware board and am trying to interface fuel guage IC with ESP32 over I2C]

2) The step by step design procedure in the datasheet mentions to calculate the design capacity, design energy and configure the same in flash. What are the steps to do? The address of design capacity is read-only.

3) I configured the VOLTSEL bit in the Pack Configuration register to enable the external voltage divider measurement option. But when I send the packet to get the voltage from battery, i get 0x00 as the data.

[The packet to get the voltage is of the form 0xAA + ACK , 0x08 + ACK RepeatStart bit, 0xAB + ACK, 0x00 + ACK, (packet finishes). Since i dont receive any data, the host doesn't send ACK and the I2C communication does not return SUCCESS]

It would be a great help, if you could let me knwo the proper procedure to configure the guage IC without the bqstudio tool. Please correct me as i know i am following a wrong procedure.

Many thanks in advance

BQ78350-R1: mWh reading

Part Number:BQ78350-R1

Hi Team,

Could you please answer the following question from the customer.

In a current project we use the bq78350-r1 together with a bq76930.

Unfortunately, reading the mWh (0x10 FullChargeCapacity) does not work. The designed capacity is always displayed.
If the register is switched to mAh with CAPM = 0, the mAh will be displayed correctly.

Can you explain how we get the mWh displayed correctly?

Thanks,
Needhu

BQ40Z50: When Emergency Shutdown enabled, measured current changes and cannot be calibrated correctly.

$

Part Number:BQ40Z50

Steps to reproduce:

1) Calibrate current so when no load is applyed it's zero.

2) Go to unsealed mode

3) Go to DA Configuration and set bit EMSHUT_EN

4) Make software reset

5) Observe current in register 0x0A going up by about 70 milliamps.

I attach to srec files that differ only in this one bit; one measures current correctly and the other one does not.

My question is: is this normal? What should I do about it if I want to measure current correctly and use emergency shutdown?

Dear TI engineer:

I used BQ4050 for 3 cell battery gas gauge, but when debug the BQ4050 can't communicate with MCU by SMbus, the SMBD not ACK, can you help to check the schematic?

And how to check the BQ4050 is work normal? Dose there are some pin voltage level to sign BQ4050 is normal or other condition? Thanks!

Power management IC selection based on two independent batteries

$

I'm trying to construct a two battery system that powers an electronic device.  The current electronic device acts as the SMBus master/host for the smart battery designed for it. My two independent system must interface with the device's SMBuss host.  The system needs to be able switch between batteries (can't operate in parallel). The issue that I'm facing is selecting the appropriate Fuel guage.  I'm not allowed to access the device's firmware to determine which Smart Battery command protocols are being relayed (I do realize this might present problems later on.)  Is there a fuel gauge that will allow me to monitor two batteries at the same time while only having one batterys properties relayed to the SMbus. If this is not possible, is there a fuel gauge (2 fuel gauges) that I can use for both batteries that can be turned on and off to add and remove it's address from the bus for use with the electronic device?  I'm still learning about SMbus. Is it possible to disconnect  a smart battery and add a smart battery without creating an error with the master/host?  Right now I'm just trying to figure out the time for implementation fo the project so any help would be appreciated. There is still a huge learning curve.

BQ40Z50-R1: Gas gauge is asserting the pin for cell over voltage events that do not occur.

Part Number:BQ40Z50-R1

I have some 4S packs that seem to exhibit the same issue as described in the original thread of this title. I took one sample and physically measured the cell voltages with a DMM and all four were approx. 3.57V. However, the cell voltages reported by the bq40z50-R1 were: Vcell1 2534 mV, Vcell2 4615 mV, Vcell3 3571 mV, and Vcell4 3572 mV.

In each of the 3 packs, Vcell1 is reported as unusually low voltage (such as 2.5V), Vcell2 is reported as unusually high voltage (as high as 5.5V), and Vcell3 & 4 are reported as reasonable voltage values. This pattern looks suspicious.

Could you please tell me the outcome of the original poster's issue? (it is not shown in this thread.) It may save me a tremendous amount of time in analyzing my problem. Thank you.

-Joe
