BQ78350-R1: Unexpected results of Chemistry ID matching tool

Part Number:BQ78350-R1

Hello TI-Team,

I'm using a battery pack with SDI INR18650-35E cells. The bq78350-R1 is continuously send into shutdown by the application. So if the bq78350-R1 will wake up again, max error will be 100% and the SOC estimation is calculated by the OCV_Data of the ChemID.

I've seen there a two ChemIDs for the cell (2162, 2123), so I'm using the Gauging Parameter Calculator (CPCCHEM) to choose the right one, But in my report is a list of 11 different ChemIDs, without the two which are named as INR18650-35E.

What ChemID should be use?

I've also attached the report and the data logging.(Please visit the site to view this file)(Please visit the site to view this file)

BQ35100: Sub-command read from control() address always returns zero

Part Number:BQ35100

Hello,

I try to read and write to the sub commands of the BQ35100 device but when I try to read the values of the command registers other than the CONTROL_STATUS i get only zeros back. When i Read the CONTROL_STATUS I get 0x2080, so the device is in full access mode and the initialization is complete. I also can read the Registers that don't have sub commands, like the voltage and so on.

For the communication I use the MBED BQ35100 Driver and ported them to C Code.

Below you can see the I2C Communication to read out the HW_VERSION.

Could you please help me with some hints where i could look further into to solve this problem?

BQ27220: Max. OTP Voltage

Part Number:BQ27220

Dear Team,

our customer chose the BQ as fuel gauge and has a question around the OTP programming voltage.

The documentation states 7.4V which is selected in the production setup. With voltage drop over cable and tolerance the voltage at the device is slightly lower and the OTP does not run through correctly.

The customer wants to increase the OTP value, but what is the maximum that they can apply?

Thanks and best Regards
Martin

P.S.: for the sake of completenesses. Can you state MIN, TYP and MAX?

BQ28Z610: Unable to complete learning cycle

Part Number:BQ28Z610

Hello,

We have been trying to complete a learning cycle using the BQ28Z610 EVM and an LG 2S 18650 cell pack (chem ID 0x2059). We have followed the instructions in slua777 to the letter, however the chip is unable to perform the first QMax update which stalls the learning cycle. We have re-attempted the cycle multiple times now and have been unable to complete the first QMax update.

Here is a short summary of the procedure:

  1. Flash chip with latest TI firmware (0.2.0) and use the latest version of bqStudio
  2. Set the chem ID of the cells using the TI-provided file from the chemID database. Both cells are identical and have the same chemID.
  3. Modify data flash values to suit our application and verify their validity
  1. i.e. Charge termination taper current > charge and discharge current threshold > quit current
  • Discharge the battery to empty
    1. FD bit set, FG reports 0% capacity and voltage around 7.4V
    2. We have used varying discharge rates, from C/2 to C/5, no effect on final result
  • Enable IT, send a reset command, ensure update status is 0x04 and RDIS is set
  • Relax until VOK and RDIS clear and, and REST is set
  1. At first we would wait until the bits would clear/set, which only took ~2hrs instead of 5, but in our later attempts we have waited the full 5hrs (and sometimes longer) just to be sure
  • Charge the battery to full/the FC bit is set
    1. Our power supply is set to 8.4V (full pack voltage) and automatically switches between CC and CV mode
  • Wait for the QMax bit to set and update status to change to 0x05, which never happens
    1. RDIS and VOK bits are cleared and REST is set, but QMAX is never set. We have waited up to 12hrs for the QMax update to occur with no success.

We've made sure that all of the criteria for the first QMax update specified in slua777 section 4.1 are met (i.e. temperature, voltage, delta capacity etc). We have also tried using different cells and reverting the firmware to 0.17, which came with the pack, but all with no luck.

Thank you.

BQ20Z45: SOCC Perm Failure after Discharge Current

Part Number:BQ20Z45

Hello,

I have a a battery where I am testing three protection tiers:

OC Dsg, 20A for 2 seconds

OC Dsg, 37A for 31mS

SC Dsg, 95A for 0 seconds

While checking the accuracy of these tiers, I setup a CC load to be 36A, which would shut down in ~2 seconds under the 1st tier.  This did cutoff after 2.44 seconds as expected, but the pack would not come back on.  After hooking back up to the BQ Software, there was a PF for SOCC.  This failure appears to be charge current related so I am unsure how this is possible.

Thank you in advance for your help, Mike

BQ27410-G1: Buying evaluation modules for different kinds of fuelgauge and battery charge chips

Part Number:BQ27410-G1

Dear TI

Is it still possible for me to get evaluation modules for a couple of different fualgauges and battery charge chips (like the bq24193) to evaluate for using in our product?

We have been using the bq27410, bq27425 and bq24193 for quite some time now, but our most recent applications would require us to go bigger, both capacity and battery voltage, and I would like some evaluation kits for these.

We want to use either 8x3000mAh 18650 cells in parallel, or 9x3000mAh 18650 cells in a 3S3P configuration.

Anything you provide that can work for us - first in evaluation format because we do not want to spin PCBs just for testing - would be greatly beneficial.

Kind regards

Hi,

In bq78PL116 datasheet (slusab8b, page 19), the data type of extended registers 0x50, 0x51 and 0x52 are R/W. But in Tech Reference file (sluu481, page 56), these registers are specified READ ONLY.

Please advise.

Thank you!

Part Number:BQ27510-G3

Dear Support,

I have a BQ27510-G3 in an epoxy potted device.  I believe that a the BQ27510-G3 is stuck in ROM mode. It will not acknowledge commands on address 0x55, but does seem to still communicate over address 0x0b.  Is there a way I can reprogram the chip back to factory status?  At the moment, BQ studio does not communicate with the BQ27510-G3, but I believe that is because it is stuck in ROM mode.  Thank you in advance for your help and assistance.

BQ40Z50: BQ40Z50 Application problem

Part Number:BQ40Z50

I now set several parameters of the battery and the design capacity.

The total voltage of the interface is normal and the voltage of each battery is normal. The switch charge of MOS can also be controlled.

Problem: current is not very accurate, more than 3A will protect.

MOS closes the alarm bit like the following figure

I tried to set the parameters of the current in the register, which were not effective, and still showed protection when discharging 3A. Are there any related parameters to be set

BQ27742-G1: Executing firmware after programming the (.srec) file generated after a successful learning cycle.

Part Number:BQ27742-G1

I am new to battery monitoring/management and i am using it for the first time.

I was able to generate 3 files (.srec .bqfs .dffs) after a successful learning cycle. As i see from one of the posts here, i programmed it with (.srec) file and executed FW. It says "Executing firmware...Priority sequence already in progress." since long time (~30 mins). How long will it take to run? Also the Update status is 0x05 in the Data memory -> Gas Gauging. Is Execute FW the last step of this process? Once its done , can i just read the battery voltage percentage remaining through I2C commands ?

Thank You,

BQ78350: In what situation will bq78350 go to time-out or bus-off? And how can I deal with it?

Part Number:BQ78350

In the datasheet,  it says the gauge will times out  when  clock low times exceeds   a  minimum value ,25ms.

what will cause  a  time-out happen?   the gauge is busy doing something?

I  use my  IIC interface to  communicate with  bq78350,  and  I  set  the clock to  50k Hz.

In each second,   I  use commands,0x08,0x09,0x0A,0x0D,0x0E,0x51,0x54,0x3B-0x3F   to  get  the battery information ,

and I  use a millisecond delay after I get  one parameter.

During some days' test ,   the program get stuck  in IIC communication for a few times.,  I measured the voltage of SMC and SMD, they are all logical high.

I  changed my software  to get one parameter in 100 millisecond period.

the program get stuck  in IIC communication for a few times.,  I measured the voltage of SMC and SMD, they are all logical low.

I guess  thetime-out  or  off state of  SMBus  may  be the reason of my problem.

So, in what situation will bq78350 go to  time-out or   bus-off? And  how can  I deal with it?

BQ40Z60: Future availability of bq40z60 ICs

Part Number:BQ40Z60

Hello,

After speaking with one of your FAE I got recommended to consider changing or current solution which uses bq40z60 to instead use bq40z50-r2. The reasoning behind this was, as stated on your website, that it might be hard to get passed EMI-testing and that bq40z50 is being actively developed with fixes for issues found in the field which is not available for bq40z60.

We are not worried about passing EMI-testing since we passed our pre-compliance testing. But I am now worried about the future availability of bq40z60. I am wondering if it might be difficult to buy the bq40z60 IC in the near future (5 years)? Do you recommend changing the solution because of potential sourcing problems?

Best Regards,

Carl

BQ34Z100: Updated CHEM ID List

Part Number:BQ34Z100

We are laying out several new battery packs and trying to see if a CHEM ID already exists for the cells being used.

LFP Cells:

- CALB CA100

- CALB CA180

- CALB CAM72

- EVE LF75

- EVE LF90

Is it possible to get an updated copy of the CHEM ID list? We are trying to avoid having to run the CHEM ID creation tests on these cells.

Thanks

BQ4050: BQ4050 Battery Status bit 13 set to 1

Part Number:BQ4050

Hi Ti experts,

I meet a issue about bq4050.

I make a 4S battery,the gasgauge is BQ4050

BQ4050 Battery Status bit 13  is RSVD, normally is 0, but i find that   BQ4050 Battery Status bit 13  is set to 1.but the TRM is not any information about Battery Status bit 13.

Because the battery charger IC is LTC1760, the charger ic will read  BQ4050 Battery Status bit 13, if set to 1, the charger IC will not charging the battery.

could you help to confirm why BQ4050 Battery Status bit 13 set to 1?what events will cause BQ4050 Battery Status bit 13  set to 1?

Thanks

BQ34Z100-G1: Cycle count of "Gas Gauging" - Increase Max Error

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

Hello TI team,

On 6s1p battery with Chem ID 0x1323 we realized two completed cycles and up to 20% SOC.

As you will see in the attached document, the Max Error registry increases by 2% in 2% for each cycle. The thing I noticed: the cycle count of GAS GAUGING remained static. So, for each offset of 1 cycle between the 2 counters: MaxError inscreases by 2%.

Why is the cycle count is blocked?(Please visit the site to view this file)
