BQ35100: CHEM ID EOS mode

$

Part Number:BQ35100

Hi,

We are considering using your Fuel Gauge and Battery Diagnostics BQ35100. After investigationin your technical documentations, I have a few questions about it.

Currently, we use a Li-SOCl2 battery from EVE model ER26500M. I read that the EOS mode is specified for Li-SOCl2 battery. Also, to use this mode we need the correct CHEM ID. I don't find CHEM ID battery for EVE R26500M in your database. Can I use an other CHEM ID that could correspond to our battery? Which impact CHEM ID have on EOS mode?

Also, is it possible to load a CHEM ID by I2C from CPU (without BQStudio)?

Thank you,

Alexis.

BQ20Z655: Cell Balancing FETS: Is it possible these remain 'on' when not charging? What can cause single-cell discharging when mated to a 655?

$

Part Number:BQ20Z655

We are using the 655 in preproduction and see packs where one cell in a 3S1P stack looks to be self-discharging rapidly once assembled into packs.  Cells are mated into a 3S1P pack only if their OCV is within 30mV of each other, but once attached to the 655, one cell has it's OCV rapidly decay to diverge from the other two cells by 300mV or more.  The other two cells remain within a few mV of each other.  The cell number (1, 2, 3) is random and occurs with equal frequency, so it is not 'position dependent' in the stack.  This is exactly what I expect would happen if a cell balancing FET remained switched on when not in CV charging mode. The only difference in our design from "datasheet-schematic" use is our cell balancing resistors are 150 ohms.  This problem occurs in 1 to 5% of the packs we build and is impacting our ability to launch production.

Please help me understand if this is possible - and if not possible what could be causing this OCV divergence only once mated with the bq20z655.  We are using high quality cells from a company known for high reliability cells used in space, ocean and on other planets, so it is very unlikely to be a problem caused by cells.

Are there any diagnostics or flags that can tell us when each individual balancing transistor turns on?

Thanks,

Doug

BQ34110EVM-796: Data Flash Parameters for Lead Acid Battery

Part Number:BQ34110EVM-796

I am working with a PbA battery (12V 9AH) and am planning on using the End of Service Determination function.

I've read the TRM as thoroughly as possible and am still confused on a couple of things:

1. What is the DF Full Reset Counter referring to? My board appears to be automatically set at 22 and will not reset back to the default value, why is this?

2. What other data flash values do I HAVE to set since I am using a PbA battery versus the standard Li-ion?

Also

3. I have seen other posts mention the use of the GPCCEDV Tool to collect logs.  Do I need to collect logs if I am only looking to use the EOS functionality?

4.  I've seen some talk about a document for theBQ34110 learning procedure of PbA batteries that would be available by June on ti.com, has this been released yet?

Thanks,

Christine

BQ78350-R1: IN_SYSTEM_SLEEP required for device sleep

Part Number:BQ78350-R1

Is there any reason why I would be having an issue where the only way I can get the device to sleep is only when IN_SYSTEM_SLEEP is activated? I thought that was only for use when you want to put the device to sleep while pres is low.

Thanks,

JP

BQ27742-G1: the device could not be recovered after faults removed

Part Number:BQ27742-G1

Hi there,

I use bq27742EVM to do some protection tests and found out that the device could not be recovered when the faults like OCD or OCC were removed. I have to short the FET between Cell+ and pack+ in order to bring the device back to normal mode. based on the data sheet regarding the operating modes, for OCD fault, the device should exit the OCD fault mode and go back normal mode when the fault mode was removed. but it stayed in the OCD mode until I make the short even there was no fault load. is there something I missed? why did the device behave like that?

Thanks!

Mike

BQ40Z50-R2: Internal ADC reference voltage

Part Number:BQ40Z50-R2

Hi Team,

How is the internal 1.225V ADC reference voltage derived?

Is it from the REG33, REG25 or from the BAT supply?

This isn’t clear from the block diagram or the datasheet.

Thanks, Carlo.

BQ27510-G3: Help needed creating a golden image for 2s Panasonic NCR18650BF - FC never sets

Part Number:BQ27510-G3

Hello,

I have been trying for two weeks now to produce a golden image for a FEY PA-UL-LNB46.R001 pack, consisting of two Panasonic NCR18650BF cells in series, giving total capacity of 6700mAh.

The initial discharge succeeds and after relaxation, RUP_DIS and VOK clear as expected.  I set IT_ENABLE (QEN & VOK set) and start charging.

All seems fine, SOC reached 100% and Remaining & Full capacity creep up to only 6260 mAh, but charging terminates (current 0) and FC is never set.

I am not sure what to do to make this work and it is getting critical in terms of our product.

What should I be looking for in the logs to help ?

Andy

Hello, in application of BQ27531 + BQ24192, NTC pin of battery is connectted  to temperature detect pin of BQ27531.

BQ27531 demand negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor with R25 = 10.0 kΩ ±1%, B25/85 = 3435 kΩ ± 1%.

Is there any method to change the B value setting of BQ27531 application if a 103AT NTC with different B value is used ?

Or the temperature coefficient of NTC must not be different from recommended in the BQ27531 datasheet ?

BQ27510-G3: How long does the Gas Gauge I2C interface take to start after Vcc is applied?

$
0
0

Part Number:BQ27510-G3

Recently, I was asking how long the BQ27510-G3 takes to get to its fully operational state.

Today, my question is more fundamental:

After the initial application of VCC, how long does the BQ27510-G3 take to get its I2C
interface operating? The Data Sheet says:

so "250 ms" is the TYPICAL value and indeed, our code actually "first reaches" the battery
gauge at about T+308 ms or so and we've found that works for nearly all the samples of the
BQ27510-G3 that we've encountered.

But I've got a sample on my desk right now that takes a few milliseconds more before it's
ready to perform I2C operations. It's no problem for us to hold off I2C accesses to the Battery
Gauge for a few hundred milliseconds longer, but absent a Data Sheet spec for the MAXIMUM
value, how do we know how long to wait?

(During runtime, we have code that will unjam a stuck I2C bus and try again but we'd rather
not have to do that during initialization; instead, we just want to insert an appropriate "blind"
startup delay that will cover essentially ll devices.)

Is there a reasonable upper bound on how long it takes the Battery Gauge I2C interface to
get rolling?

In the SLUUBS8 User's Guide, it highlights the ASCD latch counter bug, and in the SLUA880A Application Report, the change details said fixed AFE latch safety bug.

But after i update the firmware version from 1.06 to 2.11, find that it still have the latch counter bug. Then i degrade the firmware version to 1.06 or use the original version 1.06 ICs, they all have the bug not fixed.

Because i just have the ICs original firmware version 1.06, please help me check that whether just the original shipping with v2.11 pre-programmed ICs can use ASCDL protection.

Part Number:BQ20Z75-V180

One of our client's has a battery pack that has this device in it, and since we may have to have new pack designed for their device, this would be good time to look at making a switch.

Since all of the bq20z75 devices are listed as NRND what would be the recommended alternative/ replacement?.

The pack is part of a smart-battery system.

Hello again,

I am writing code to perform remotely controlled current calibration.

I am assuming that chapter 5 of the TRD of the previous product "BQ34110" is applicable.

Can you confirm this and/or show me any differences?

Thanks in advance,

-Tim

Hi,

In shutdown mode, BQ40Z50-R1 requires start up voltage 2.05~2.45V at least 1mSec. What's about the current require for PACK pin?

BQ34Z100-G1: Learned Status and Update Status issues for Bq34z100-G1

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

Hello,

After properly following the first few steps of an optimization cycle for a 12V 100Ah Lead acid battery, the Update status and Learned Status does not update beyond 4.

I followed these steps in the optimization cycle

1. Discharge the battery to empty as much as possible, then detach the power supply and electronic load completely from the battery

2. Send IT_enable and Reset commands. Rup_dis and QEN should be 1 at this point.

3. Relax until RUP_DIS and VOK are clear, and OCVTaken is set.

4. After OCVtaken is set, reattach the power supply and charge at C/2 (in my case I set it to 50 A). VOK should set at start of charge

5. Wait until the gauge displays the set taper current (in my case I wait until "150" is displayed on the left hand side display of BQstudio), and make sure that FC is set to 1.

6. Quickly detach the power supply and eload again.

7. Relax the battery again unitl RUP_DIS and VOK are clear and OCVtaken is set. At this point Update status should become 0x05.

8. Reattach the eload and discharge at C/10 (in my case I have tried both 20 A and 10 A) until termination voltage is reached (in my case I wait until 10800 mV is displayed on BQstudio). The Grid Number should update.

9. Relax the battery again.

In my case, I have tried the cycling twice, the first time with 20A discharge and the second time I stopped before discharging at 10 A since Update Status did not change.

Basically what baffles me is that the important bits RUP_DIS, VOK, OCVTaken, FC, and QEN behave as expected and at the proper times. However both Update status and Learned Status both only reach a maximum value of 4. From the datasheet a value of 4 for Learned Status just means that IT_enabled, and 4 for Update Status means IT is enabled but Qmax and Ra data are not learned. From what I understand they should both reach a value of 6.

I did notice that the current readings of BQstudio tend to drift away at extreme values from the designated Design Energy Scale of 7. Also it does not go to zero when the battery is disconnected. Is it possible that that is the reason? At first I thought that maybe the battery chemistry I chose, 809 from tool TI provided, is wrong, but RUP_DIS did not set during discharge; I read somewhere that RUP_DIS settting during discharge means that the chemistry chosen is wrong.

I also read from a previous thread here that Update Status for Lead Acid batteries does not update until after discharge? In the above list of steps I expected Update Status to change during step 7, so should I expect it to change only after or during step 9? In the files I am attaching here I stopped basically at step 7 because Update Status did not change. The discharge in the log attached is just me discharging the battery to empty it again so I can restart the optimization cycle.

I have attached the log file (sampled every 5 seconds) and gg files (autoexported every 10 minutes). Thanks!

BQ27750: Qmax Update after Term Smooth is reached?

Part Number:BQ27750

Hello TI-Team,

One question about the DSG_0_SMOOTH_OK option:

I'm using a cell with a cut-off voltage of 2.5V (by datasheet), but the gauge should reports 0% SOC when 3.5V reached.

During the learning cycle I set Term Voltage to 2.5V. When I set Term Smooth Final Cell V Delta to 1000mV, the SOC should report 0% when 3.5V is reached, right?

What threshold is now used for an QMAX update? Is it 3.5V (when Term Smooth Final Cell V Delta is reached) or 2.5V (when Term Voltage is reached).

Thanks for clarification.

Patrick
