In looking through the technical reference, it references a document (SLUA420) for a circuit for Fast Balancing. This shows the circuit (roughly) to be used to increase the bypass current and speed up balancing.
This is still passive balancing though. Is it possible to perform any form of active balancing using the BQ40z50?
Alternatively, are there any other products which can be paired with this BMS IC to perform active balancing?
