Sealed bq20z45R1, bqEVSW and extended SMB Registers

Hi Everyone,

I want to verify in production a pack is actually sealed. The most straight-forward method would be to read the FAS and SS bits from the Operation Status register. But, I get NACK's when I read the Operation Status register from a sealed pack, as expected from the Tech Reference. Unsealing the pack to read SS bit kind of defeats the purpose.

What's bugging me is bqEVSW seems to read these registers with no problem while scanning on the SBS screen. What kind of magic is going on here?

I have a bq20z45R1-1.05, bqEVSW software version 0.9.90 and EV2300.
