BQ34Z100-G1: Using the EVM board for evaluation

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

I am in the process of creating a multi-cell NiMH charger/gas gauge using the BQ34Z100-G1 EVM and the LM3409 EVM but I see that the BQ34Z100 EVM is not equipped with mounting holes  and, furthermore, the thermistor is soldered to the board and there is no provision to take the thermistor off the board. I am presuming therefore that the board is intended to be co-located with the batteries in a closed battery pack so the thermistor  can accurately read battery temperature. On the other hand all the indicator LEDs are located on the board implying that the EVM should be located in an open environment possibly separate from the batteries.

Are there any solutions to this quandary other than de-soldering the on-board thermistor and running wires to a remote thermistor?
