BQ34Z950: [NR] bit in DF.Configuration

Part Number:BQ34Z950

Dear TI,

I'm reposting my inquiry that I've sent last week dated 5th April 2017 but no reply from TI.

Below was the post:

Dear TI,

Based on the BQ34Z950 technical reference Dec 2014, in Data Flash, Configuration class, Operation Cfg B register, the [NR] bit is no longer appeared in the register and replaced by [RSVD] bit. Thus, we need to set this bit as '0'.

If we refer to BQ20Z95 Application Book Dec 2006, this '0' bit refers to removable pack.

1) Why the [NR] bit is no longer a choice of bit to be set in BQ34Z950?

As far as I understand that the removable pack uses the System Present pin (PRES) while this pin is now assigned as NC (Not Connected) on BQ34Z950IC.

2) However, our requirement is to design a battery standalone.

Can we set '1' to this particular bit in BQ34Z950 in order for us to comply with our requirement? If can, is there any unpredictable or significant implication to the end product?

FYI, we did used your BQ20Z95 Gas Gauge IC in one of our product but we're not using the same IC for our new battery because it needs a DQ pin to communicate with the host.

3) In your website, the BQ20Z95 is already declared NRND. When this IC would be obsolete? What is the best replacement for this IC if obsolete?

It will be helpful if you could respond my inquiry above in order for me to finalize the design.

Thanks in advanced.
