I connected a bq20z65EVM to a smart battery charger (consistent with SBS 1.1) to charge the cells to perform the learning cycles requested by bqEASY. However, after connecting the three active SMBus lines to the charger, the power lines from the smart charger to the EVM, and supplying power to the charger, the batteries will not charge. There is no data traffic on either the SMBC or SMBD lines, they are at about 5V with no changes. Therefore no current is sent from the charger to the bq20z65EVM.
According to SBS 1.1 the battery controller (in this case the bq20z65) acts as a master to a slave charger. Why is the bq20z65 not behaving as a master? Is there a mode the device must be in to request ChargingVoltage()/ChargingCurrent() from the charger? What would cause no data traffic on the SMBus? The module is not in sleep mode so why isn't it communicating with the charger?
