bq40z50 how to Manufacture Access, operation status
Hi team,
Could you customer know how to readout "Operation Status" by Manufacture Access, bq40z50 ?
Following two reading way shows different Low Byte value.
Advice is appreciated.
1. Read out Operation Status Low Byte (WORD) by writing 0x0000 command.
(1) Write 0x0000 command in 0x00
(2) Read 0x23 2Byte
2. Read out Operation Status DWORD by writing 0x5400 command.
(1) Write 0x5400 command in 0x00
(2) Read 0x23 4Byte
Which way of length does it output?
(Does it have read data length?)
- Data length 4 / 1Byte / 1Byte / 1Byte / 1Byte
- 1Byte / 1Byte / 1Byte / 1Byte
bq34z100g1 behavior
Hi All
I'm seeing funny things in the field and trying to understand what is going on.
1) I have a 2 cell in series battery LiOn when I charge the battery to 95% stop and wait then after a while when I cycle the power on the battery and then the gauge indicate 83 % it then stays there for about 4 days before it drops to 82.
2) I charge a 14.8 Volt 4.3Ah LiOn to 100% then leave for a while when I cycle the power on the bettery it drops to 92 % and stay there.
3) 80%of the battery packs does not do this, just here and there I have this issue.
I have a protection board on the battery and a NTC.
Inputs please?
Kind regards
Ben
BAT_DET and learning cycle
Hello,
I'm trying to run a learning cycle by a bq27425-g2a on a 2200mAh Io-Li battery.
I started with the RESET and the BAT_INSERT commands, after I discharged the battery to 3V with a 450mA, waited until VOK and RUP_DIS were cleared and OCVTAKEN set so I suppose the first valid OCV has been taken.
Control Status: 0x0018
Flags: 0x01AE
But when I start the charge the battery goes out from the SLEEP state and BAT_DET is cleared. I can't continue the learning cycle with BAT_DET cleared, as the battery is not anymore detected. Where am I wrong?
Thanks in advance
bq34z100 I2C communication
Hello,
I wanted to run a learning cycle and when I changed some parameters in the Data Memory and re-programmed using a golden imaged file, the was no communication with bq34z100 in bqStudio. This was happened exactly after the programming process. Also, reconnecting the BAT+ and BAT- doesn't affect. Can you help me to understand the reason? How can I make the communication again?
Thank you.

I changed some of the Data Memory parameters and after re-programming using the golden image, there was no communication with bq34z100 and reconnecting the BAT+ and BAT- also didn't make the communication. Can anyone help me understand the problem? How can I make the communication?
Thank you.

BQ40Z50-R1 takes too long to go into fast charge
We have some question regarding the BQ40Z50-R1.
1. We set the CUV, CUVC and Shutdown threshold at 2875mV, 2775mV and 2675mV. Then we DSG the battery until the CUV trip. Then we DSG it further until around 2400mV (shutdown voltage also trip). After this we connect the battery into a charger. The charger Iprecharge is set at 200mA. While it is connected to a charger, the BQStudio would only detect ~10mA of charging current not the 200mA Iprecharge. Why would it only charge using 10 mA not the 200mA?
2. How would one charge a battery after the CUV trips (XDSG=1, DSG=0)? At this scenario we would like to charge using a precharge current then after the battery voltage goes beyond a certain voltage we then switch to a fast charge current. In our testing though, since the CUV disable the DSG FET, the charge voltage is not even seen by the battery. What we observe in this case is PCHG FET is enabled, DSG FET is disabled then only small amount of charge current is passing.
Our fuel gauge schematic is the same as that in the typical application so there should be no issue there.
What we're seeing with the 10mA charge is that it takes way too long to go into fast charge. We don't even see the precharge current of 200mA as it goes from 10mA to full charge current (1.5A). Also at 10mA, the charge LED does not come on so the user will be wondering what's going on.
Please help with this.
BQ40Z60 - 7.4V 2S Battery - Learning Cycle Failure
Dear,
I have been working on getting the BQ40Z60EVM to correctly gauge my 2S LiPo battery (250 mAh) for an entire week straight, but no progress. Most likely because I somehow cannot complete a full learning cycle. This due to not being able to charge to full charge giving [FC] = 1. At the bottom I've added a gg.csv file. Could someone please give me some guidance, or provide a modified gg.csv file I could work with?
Extra related questions:
- My adapter delivers 12V/5A to the EVM and the Charging Voltage is a nice 8400mV but the AC adapter voltage reading in bqstudio is only around 7950mV. Shouldn't this be the same as the Charging Voltage and how do I fix this?
- The Technical Reference Manual (TRM) gives default values for the charging voltage at different temperatures. Why would this voltage be lower for the recommended temperature as opposed to the standard temperature?
- Where did the GaugingStatus Low Word go? There is a description of it in the TRM (with a very weird RDIS interpretation!), but in the BQ40Z60, it's not there.
- The Charge Termination Current & Voltage is per default 100mA & 75mV. Where do these numbers come from and how can I calculate them for my situation?
General questions:
- Where is the [TCASETVCT] flag located mentioned on p. 63 of the TRM?
- In Settings:Configuration[FET Options] bit5: CHGFET. This is mentioned in the TRM as RSVD. What do I do with this bit?
- Regarding system presence: shunt on J7, [NR]=0 gives [PRES]=1. If battery pack removed nothing changes, only when shunt is removed from J7, [PRES] toggles regardless of battery pack installed. This seems not correct.
- With charger and load connected, [FET_EN]=0, [CHGR_EN]=0 but no battery connected, the voltage reading is still around 40mV for cell 1. How is this possible?
- The TRM mentions on p.23 that the value for Protections:CHGC:Recovery should be negative. (As well as for Protections:PCHGC:Recovery on p.24). But both default Recovery Thresholds are positive. Why?
- What does Settings:AFE do? The TRM does only mention default values and not much explanation.
- To be sure: are protection values like CUV/COV and charging voltages in the advanced charging algorithm section given per cell or by battery pack?
I am truly sorry for this many questions. If I'm able to run a learning cycle I will already be very happy and all the rest is an added bonus. Many thanks in advance for any responses.

Question regarding how a ChemID is selected?
Hi,
When we submitted our cell data to TI to get the ChemID, I was wondering how the data is processed?
Our cell data is discharged at C/10 rate with the corresponding Voltage profile but no OCV table. Obviously the ChemID
also has the same C/10 profile but it also has the OCV table among other things such as Temperature related data.
So I guess the logic is if our cell C/10 profile is closely matched to the ChemID cell C/10 then it should
mean that our cell OCV table should closely resemble that of the ChemID OCV table? Then the ChemID OCV table
will be used to calculated and update our cell RA table?
Also will our cell OCV table get modified to get the exact match of our cell? Or OCV table will forever be fixed to
the original ChemID OCV table?
Thanks.
BQ27510-G3 Programming/Calibration detailed procedure
We upgraded our design from the BQ27510-G21 to the BQ27510-G3. With the -G21, we had a programming and CAL process that used bqEASY for the start-to-finish process. But with the -G3, this is not the case, and between using bqStudio and bqEVSW, there does not seem to be a step-by-step process to perform the CAL, Chemistry and Learning Cycle.
These E2E posts seem to support a lack of such a process or document, but perhaps we have overlooked something, please advise.

Writing a gg file using the bqTools SDK
I have been not able to successfully write a gg file with the TI bqToolsSDK. Specifically, using this function below within bqSBB.dll. I am speculating there is a dependency I am unaware of and it is not documented. I call the function and it writes the file with only the header information. None of the gg parameters are written to the file and no errors are returned. Any help would be appreciated. I've tried the WriteGGFile and WritePublicGGFile functions and get the same result.
int WritePublicGGFile | ( | const char * | dataPipeName, |
const char * | fileName, | ||
char | delimiter, | ||
int | format | ||
) |
Write public parameters to a gg file.
Data in data flash buffer will be written to device first if required. File will be overwritten if it existing.
- Parameters:
dataPipeName Data Pipe Name fileName File name delimiter Field delimiter format Output format 1 = All Fields, 2 = Debug, 3 = Classic GG Format, 4 = Default bcfgx.
- Returns:
- Zero for success. Non-zero for erro
Data Flash Setting for Bq34z100evm
Can I have another question for the data flash, there are some parameters.
1. Numbers of series cells
2. Design Energy
3. Design Capacity
4. Cell Charge Voltage Tx-Ty
The batteries I’m using are two YUASA NP12-12 (2S1P)
I would like to know that
For ‘Number of series cells’ , Should I fill in 2?
For Cell charge voltage Tx-Ty, Should Ifill in 14.4V or 28.8V?
For Design Energy , Should I fill in 12000mah x 24V = 288000mW?
For Cell Terminate Voltage , Should I fill in 20400mV?(Cause one cell terminate voltage is 10.2V , I got 2S1P cells it will be 20.4V)
Submit cells to TI to obtain ChemID
Hi Tom,
I would like to submit two types of cells to Dallas for characterization. The parts number for the
cells are: Sony US18650VTC6 and Sony US18650VC7.
I already have collected the discharge data and submit them online but the tool could
not find a match for the VTC6 and for the VC7 the match is not closed enough that we
do not have enough confidence to go with the ChemID.
Could we send these in for characterization? I attached the datasheets for these two cells.
My email address is: avu@houseofbatteries.com

BQ34Z100-G1 - Questions about the production and flash the firmware
Dear Team,
one of my customers has the following questions.
We will use the BQ34Z100-G1 gauge (www.ti.com/.../BQ34Z100-G1) for a produces an average series. And we have to program the gauge semi-automated manner.
There is a user guide that guides slua665 into production of devices using BQ34Z100. It is also valid for the G1 review?
And you can get information on how to flash the firmware chip before programming the settings (e.g. the eval kit came with an old firmware that we had to reschedule before the deal).
Could you please advice?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

DFI or ROM file programming with external microcontroller
Hi,
We are using bq20z655r-1 for our application. We want to program the chips with external micro controller without EV2300.We have successfully established SMBus communication and are able to read and write dataflash contents. But we are not able to understand .dfi or .rom file for golden file programming
.GG file exported can be read but .DFI & .ROM file are showing non readable data. What is the format of these files and how can we access it?Which application is required to open these files.
And how should we go about programming with microcontroller ??
I have read some documents but they dont have complete information and are quite confusing. I have also read in some threads that there are typos in these documents. So it would be very hard to implement anything from this documents.
Can you please give the exact steps for programming these files?Do you have any pre written code which we can directly use which has been tested so we can start off production immediately.
