BQ34Z110 communication

Hi everyone ,

I am working on BQ34Z110 now , I have read sluua15.pdf twice . now I want to use my MCU to communicate with BQ34Z110 through I2C interface .But I failed once, So do you have any examples that I  refer it ? Such as msp430 communicate with BQ34Z110 ,that will be very grateful .

Hello I am working on an application to set values in the FLASH.

Am I correct that the values held in FLASH are stored MSByte first and RAM variables are read LSByte first?

slua665 Going To Production document has code examples where the MSByte is written first.

yRowData(15) = (iSerialNum \ 256) '//MSByte
yRowData(16) = iSerialNum - (yRowData(0) * 256) '//LSByte


But when reading the values from the RAM they appear to be the oposite endian, is this correct? As are the addresses.

bq34z100 Voltage Calibration With Cell connected during production

The various documents available all suggest that the board be calibrated prior to having the cells attached.

Is there any issue using the cell voltage to calibrate the boards?

In production the cells will likely be attached to the boards prior to programming.

Can we just measure the cells (2 in series)  voltage when doing the production voltage calibration?

The cells will be about half full during manufacturing.

Will this cause accuracy issues?

IT function will be enabled after calibration, so will this work?

BQ34Z100EVSW - Where is it?

Searching the TI site for the software for the EV2300 or BQ34Z100EVL or BQ34Z100EVSW turns up NOTHING on how to order or download this sofware, which is necessary to use the EV2300.

Looking through the sluu904.pdf the user is advised:

To get the latest software archive, contact the Texas Instruments field representative assigned to work with this device. 

The immediate question is, who is responsible for this task if we can't simply download it or order a CD to be shipped by snail mail?

A bigger question that should be taken as a suggestion:

Why doesn't it come with the purchase of the EVL? Why isn't there one software for all chipsets that comes with the EV2300 or EV2400?

But there is an even bigger question: who is responsible for such a policy? Really, this is the 21st century. It should not be so hard to give TI my money.

Hello!

I think that the error in the "/ MRST" on page24 of the datasheet.

Can I use CS pin to "hardware reset"?

If I can use it, what is the value of the "min. input high voltage" and "reset time" of CS?

concern about the current sensing input bandwidth of the bq34z100.  A/D conversion update is approx. 1sec. The changes in the current could be in the 10's of Hz ( e bike motor controller) and contribute to SOC of the battery.  Chip uses a delta sigma for the a/d and is continuously running. Not that familiar with this type, but never seen a sample&hold used with them like with SAR types.  Will the bandwidth of the current signals be limited to the conversion rate and lower missing the higher frequency content?  or during that 1sec conversion, signals in the 10's of Hz be averaged in the result.  Understand that much higher frequencies need to be filtered.

HI,

Iam new to fuel gauge monitoring ..  i need to design battery charger + monitoring circuit for handheld product.

With help of TI FAE , i have narrow down  following part for my application.  with basic view of datasheets i drafted block level for battery charger + fuelguage

monitoring circuit. 

Input Specification:

Li-ion : 3.7v / 2200mA (4S) = 14.8v

Input : 15V  DC Adaptor

i have following question

1.  Concept diagram is ok ?

2. what are the parameter i need to look for before start evalution?

3. part no selected is ok ? since as per bqz2045 evm using cell balancing bq29412

 which NRND so we selected bq 7718xy..

4.Any other parameter i need to look ? for both charger and fuelgauge.

I am currently going through the learning cycle (5A in bqEasy) and have a couple of questions. When charging and discharging the battery pack, can I wait longer than the recomended wait times? Also, does the bq27541 need to stay powered during the entire cycle? I ask this because my pack shuts down when it reaches it's minimum discharge voltage.

bqStudio shuts down during evaluation with bq78350

I tried to program the bq78350 on the bq76920EVM with EV2300 and battery management studio 1.3.35. The EV2300 and the bq76920EVM are connected with SMBus. As I open the register “Data memory” bqStudio shuts down and the following error message occurs in German: “Bqsbb.exe funktioniert nicht mehr. Das Programm wird aufgrund eines Problems nicht richtig ausgeführt. Das Programm wird geschlossen und Sie werden benachrichtigt, wenn eine Lösung verfügbar ist.“ I tried to translate into Englisch “Bqsbb.exe doesn’t work anymore.  The program doesn’t work correct because of some problem. The program shuts down, if there is a solution you will get an information.”.

MAC commands sent does not match MAC returned in read packet

Dear All,

I'm testing our version of the PCB with BQ40Z50,

everything worked fine, and we began to set up calibration and data flash parameters.

we weren't able to force the FET to open in order to calibrate pack voltage and current.

now, when we re open the BQstudio we get a warning: MAC commands sent does not match MAC returned in read packet.

when we try to read data flash we get:  "operation failed because initial read of all data flash failed."

we are not able to program new srec file

we are able to receive standard SBS commands, the chip reacts to safety such as detaching the NTC, these registers are set.

BQ40Z50 fuse register cannot be toggled

Dear All,


we are testing a new PCB with BQ40Z50.

we are trying to calibrate the pack, and we are not able to open CHG/DSG.

when can write FET_EN(0x22), and Toggle_CHG/DSG (0x1F,0x20) successfully.

only thing that is not being toggled is FUSE(0x1D)...

the fuse operation is not used in our circuit and nothing is connected to FUSE pin.

as a result, we are not able to perform calibration, CHG FET and DSG FET are closed, even when forced - is that normal?

any idea how to solve it?

If I set Load Mode = 0 (Constant Current) and Load Select Value = 6 and
User_Rate-mA = 1mA then will FullChargeCapacity() and FullAvailableCapacity()

become in the near value?

Now we have one inquiry regarding golden file for dual batteries from our customer.

Please refer to the item below, and feedback us with your comment.

We are going to use dual batteries in serial on our application.

On this case, please let us clarify whether we could make golden file including 2 batteries or should make golden file per 1 battery from bqEASY. 

For your reference, the battery capacity is "1025mAh*2 = 2050mAh".

BQ40Z50 SLEEP MODES

hi team,

my customer  want to use the Li-Ion Battery Pack Manager chip BQ40Z50 for our battery solution.

 In our use case we discharge the battery with only a few µA current (typical 20…50 µA, max. 200 µA) for a longer time. While this time the BQ40Z50 shall be in Sleep Mode because the consumption in Normal Mode is too much for battery lifetime.

In the datasheet (chapter Supply Current) there are given two Sleep Modes, one with “DSG on” and one with “DSG off”. We cannot use the Sleep Mode with “DSG off” because our device must be powered always with minimum a few µA current. So we only can use the Sleep Mode with “DSG on”.

 Is it possible to use the BQ40Z50 for this use case? We must be sure that the battery can be discharge with a so low current and the BQ40Z50 must not enter the Sleep Mode with “DSG off” in this case. How the chip differ between the two Sleep Modes? Is it possible to disable the Sleep Mode with “DSG off” so that only the Sleep Mode with “DSG on” is available?

BQ27425-G2A / Condition to clear RUP_DIS bit

HI All,

I confirmed that the RUP_DIS is set when the the  battery voltage down to less than Terminate Voltage. Then please let me know to clear RUP_DIS bit. I coulld clear it when the battery charged to reach Taper Current, but I'd like to know the other condition to clear it.

BQ27742-G1 bqStudio question

Have a customer with the following question:

We currently have a battery pack that is using the BQ27742-g1 chip.  I have read over the user guide and believe I understand how to configure the chip for the general parameters we need.  What I don’t know how to do is to fill out the resistance tables and other info that is chemistry dependent as the documentation says not to write that directly, but to use TI’s software.  I have downloaded TI’s bqstudio to try and do this, but am struggling to get it working.  It also popped up a warning telling me the BQ27742-g1 chip is not supported by the software.  Is there any way for bqstudio just to give me the values that I need to write to flash without actually having to talk to the chip itself.  I can talk to the chip, but only through our hardware that we have designed.  We are currently using a single A123 18650 1100maH cell with the ic.

Is it possible to use this product stand-alone without microcontroller? I want to buy and use EV2300 to program all settings to BQ28400 via PC software (bq28400 Evaluation Software). And BQ28400 would perform cell balancing, protection from overvoltage, undervoltage and overecurent conditions. I don't need any information from BQ28400 (battery voltage, capacity etc.). Would you recommend this solution? Or maybe you have other solution for space saving (small package, without host controller), 2-cell battery pack protection. I am looking forward for quick replay. 

BQ28550 change CUV Threshold

Hello,


i will change the Cell Voltage Threshold from 2500mV to 3000mV. For this i take the example from the Datasheet SLUU513 (September 2011).

If the voltage drops below 3000mV the BQ28550 closed the connection to the battery - that is fine.

But if i connect the System with powersupply - nothing happens.

If i send the QB28550 over i2c the shutdown command the BQ28550 closed the connection to the batteryand it starts with connection to powersupply.

Why start the system by using the shutdown command and not with the Cell Voltage Threshold?
