Hello,

I've got an "capacity error popup message" when I'm trying to upload the chemistery table 0287 (LGC 18650 MG1 2900mA) with the bq Evaluation Software (Rev 0.9.92) in the bQEasy menu.

Everithing is working well except this function. When I use another table, it works but this one not.

Does somebody know what would be the issue ?...and the solution ?

PS: the component is a BQ27500

Thank you in advance

bq27425-G2A / CC deadband

Hi All,

Please let me ask about CC deadband. I understand that bq27425-G2A does not accumulate charge or discharge current when the voltage across SRX and VSS is less than CC deadband. Then,

  • Does it mean that CC ADC is disable?
  • Does RemCap or SOC not change if very small current is flow continuously but the voltage across SRX and VSS is less than CC deadband?

BQ27742-g1 floating point converstion

I am trying to calibrate a battery pack that uses a BQ27742-g1 gas gauge IC.  In doing the current calibration in order to calculate the ccGain and ccDelta the numbers must be converted from floating point to a special type of floating point understood by the gas gauge.  I followed their flow chart in the sluuax0b.pdf document (Section A.11) and wrote some c code to convert the number.  My problem is that I am questioning my results and have no way to test the answer I receive to make sure it is correct.  The byte0, byte1, and byte2 numbers I am getting end up being negative numbers, which I don't think is correct.  Does anyone have any code that implements their algorithm that they would be willing to share?  Or some example conversions of floating point numbers that I can check to make sure my algorithm is working?

Hello Thomas:  I am using the TI bq40z60EVM module with the latest released version of Battery Management Studio.  The firmware supplied with the EVM is 4600_0_12-bq40z60 while the Battery Management Studio only recognizes 4600_0_13-bq40z60.

Two questions:  How do I update the embedded firmware (I only see the interface for programming *.Senc and *.srec, not *.bqz)?  And where can I find the latest bq40z60 firmware?

Thank you very much.

BQ27541-G1 firmware version different than expected - wrong IC or just fw version?

Hi,

I have 4 different "versions" of a gas gauge BQ27541-G1, and I'm having some problem with the firmware versions. One of them returns 0x0200, and I would like to know if that means it is a BQ27541-V200, or it can be indeed a G1, with an old firmware version. What will be the problems of writing a golden image made for the G1 version on the V200 (if it is indeed a V200)? I did write it thinking it was a G1, it didn't "brick" but I'm not sure it is working properly either.

Is it possible to find the firmware version it was shipped with(or actual version of the device)? If yes, then the following codes are written over the ICs:

bq 7541 TI K 22GC

bq 7541 TITI 33NF

bq 7541 TIUK 31ND

bq 7541 TIUK 3161

Dear all,

we use BQ78PL116 for a 1KWh battery pack with IP scale 10.

we have set the design capacity to the right "absolute capacity" (39Ah).

but the RSOC is immediately set to a value much higher.

I thought a few cycles would fix this but it just won't go down...

I can see that FC and FD flags are set and we are waiting enough time at idle current.

is there any way to set the value of the FCC ? it is now ~100Ah...

best regards,

BQ20Z65 Qmax not updating after 500 cycles

$

TI E2E Team,

I have a customer that is not getting a Qmax update on the BQ20Z65 after running through 500 cycles.  This is their direct response.  As well as their data collected and log, see attached.

"I can’t seem to get the fuel gauge to complete a Qmax update.

I have over 500 cycles and the % error has climbed to 23% and that indicates that no Qmax update has occurred.

The last few cycles I have done full charge and discharges with over 5 hours of rest at empty and full but no luck."

Any ideas as to why the it's not updating?

Thanks!

BQ76930 - DEVICE_XREADY bit will not clear

$

I have designed and fabricated a BQ76930 AFE and BQ78350 GG pair:

  • Boards are configured to manage 6 Li-Ion cells
  • Proper shorting techniques were followed in BQ76930 datasheet to reduce cell count
  • During assembly, cells were connected in a bottom-up order starting with Pack-
  • External balancing FET circuitry

The AFE boots correctly and the BQ78350 can talk to it via I2C. BQ78350 functionality was verified over SMBus with BQStudio and an EV2400 board. BQ78350 is now being held in reset in order to not affect I2C bus. Currently am talking to AFE on I2C with the EV2400 board and the BQ76940 Evaluation Software:0.1.0.7.

The AFE is responsive. I can set and clear the ADC_EN and TEMP_S bits. The DEVICE_XREADY will not clear. Tried the 'Clear Faults' macro, tried writing 0xFF to address 0x00. All voltages and temperatures stay as zero. I2C integrity is fine and transactions are being verified on a scope. Have tried both the BQ7693000 and the BQ7693001. Both result in a frozen DEVICE_XREADY bit. This is the only bit set in the System Status register.

  • RGSRC =      9.08V
  • CAP1 =          3.29V
  • CAP2 =        10.66V
  • REGOUT =    2.52V
  • BAT =           21.55V
  • VC10 =        21.55V
  • VC[9,8,7] =  17.96V
  • VC6 =           14.36V
  • VC5B =        10.66V
  • VC5=            10.76V
  • VC5x=          10.66V
  • VC[4,3,2] =    7.18V
  • VC1 =             3.59V
  • VC0 =             0.00V

I looked at the AFE FAQ for an answer, but as far as I can tell, I am not violating any design rules. I can't see any reason that these should boot into this mode. Does anyone have any suggestions for troubleshooting?

bq34z110 : X10 mode setting

Hello!

I want to set the bq34z110 using X10mode.

But I can not understand exactly x10mode.

I test and that specifications are as follows:

1) Battery : 12V/55AH 1EA

2) Load : about 1A resistor 1EA

When X10 mode and set to "Design Energy Scale" to "10", all in DataFlash "mA, mAh, mW and mWh unit" do I need to set divided by "10"?

BQ34Z100 & BQ29200 Cell Balancinge Effect on SOH and SOC

$

Hello

We have a design using the BQ34Z100 and a BQ29200 overvoltage protector with in built cell balancing.

The cells are arranged as 2 in series.

As I understand it the balancing circuit shunts the cell with the highest voltage via some resistors untill the cells are balanced, this current will not be seen by the BQ34Z100. I assume that the voltage will adjust though, which will be seen by the gauge.

This balancing technique seems to be common, how will it effect the IT algorithms estimation of SOC and SOH?

Is it not a big issue?

I assume if the cells need serious ammounts of balancing the SOH is pretty low anyway.

Thanks

Morgan

Any 1S Li-Ion gauge able to distinguish between >500 uA = NORMAL current and

$

Hello,

Are there any single cell gauges capable of distinguishing between > 500 uA for NORMAL current and <50 uA for SLEEP current?

I have a very small (< 75 mAh) battery. Gauges like bq27621-G1 and bq27421-G1 seem like a good fit, except it appears that the Sleep Current for these cannot be below 1 mA. In this use case, the system spends a lot of time in an 'idle mode' that draws between 0.5 and 1.5 mA, and I'd like to keep the gauge active in this state to keep the state-of-charge as accurate as possible.

From bq27421-G1 TRM p30:
