BQ25606: Selection of the Battery Charger IC

We have requirement for the single cell 3.7V Li-ion/Li-Po battery charger with inbuilt over charge and discharge protection. And we also need the Buck and boost converter for the regulated output voltage ( 3.3V and 4V) at the output end. The input charger supply is 5V micro USB.

 

This regulated power supply will be used for ESP32 nodemcu and GSM sim880C. The SIM880C will required 4V and 2mA burst current on power up and nodemcu will be operated on 3.3V.

 

We came across with the TI BQ25606 Battery Charger IC, does this IC suits the requirement of over charge and under discharge protection with buck and boost converter?

Here are some questions in real application for BQ27320:

1. If the battery is removed, will the data for current battery be stored in BQ27320? And when the battery insert back to the system, will it start from the state where it is removed?

2. If a new battery is inserted, what will happen? will the gauge show wrong initially?

3. Will the gauge provide the information such as charging and discharging times?

4. Do we have high side sense resistor gauge with flash integrated  used in system side?

w find Pin 1 shorted to GND.

Is there any impact on the IC pins when choosing the smaller value of resistors comparing the resistors value in datasheet, R149, R150 and R151  as shown in our circuit?

should we change the larger value of these resistors?

and how about the value of R157 and R158 in our circuit, which are also samller than the resistors in datasheet?  

Why should we set the value of R1 to 10KΩ?

Hi again,

I have follow up questions on the part: UC3710DW.

1. Do UC1710J, UC2710DW and UC3710DW use the same die?

2. Why is UC3710DW rated at +70°C  while UC2710T is rated at +85°C ? What is the expected failure mode of UC3710DW above +70°C?

3. The datasheet indicates that the component “can source or sink a minimum of 6A”. Is 8A acceptable (i.e. charging a 1nF cap with 20V and a 2.5 ohm series resistance)?

4. What would cause a supply voltage between 20.0V and 21.0V ? By how much would the supply current increase at 21.0V ?

REF3330: Working with inverting buffer

Dear Sir/Madam,

We need your help on a component, REF3330DBZ that we are using in one of our products.

In the attached picture below, you can see that because of the 5V pull-up resistor before the inverter, current tries to flow towards the 3V reference voltage(REF3330DBZ) through the forward-bias diode. This opposes the 3V reference voltage which is itself trying to drive current. This is why we see a ~13mA increase in current consumption on average for the whole circuit.

This inverter was assembled by mistake by our PCB assembler. Originally, we specified an inverter that did not have those diodes. But, due to this mistake, there are some devices with this wrong inverter on the market. We are now trying to assess the risks that could result because of this wrong component assembly.

My questions to you are:

            1) Will this opposing current on the 3V output, reduce the lifetime of the Voltage Reference IC? If yes, any estimate by how much?

   2) Could we expect a component failure or performance reduction over time?

Also attached is the schematic snapshot of the Voltage Reference IC.

BQ40Z80EVM-020: Cannot comunicate with EVM after firmware update

Hello,
 using BQstudio 1.3.86, we tried flashing the latest bq40z80_v0_04_build_5.srec from your website.
Unfortunately, the software threw a "Program srec: data flash checksum calculated from srec does not match checksum returned from device after programming" error.

Now the EV2400 is recognised, but there is no way to comunicate with the bq40z80 chip nor flashing the firmware again.
Word at 0x0d returns 9201 value.

What are we doing wrong?

LM5116: Device failure when input voltage exceeds 50V

Hi,

We are using LM5116 to buck down the input voltage (40 to 80V) to 12V/2A output. 

Attached is the schematic and waveforms captured with 10ohm load at the output. 

We are seeing issue of LM5116 getting damaged when input voltage is raised above 50V. The Gate-Source resistance is dropping to ~20ohm in both low side high side drivers. No short seen in the FETs.

Is anything missed in the schematic which cause such failures ? Please share the mail ID so that I can communicate privately if more information is required.

Hi Support Team,

I designed a DC/DC Boost converter with the following specifications:

- Vin 30-40 V

-Vout 325 V

- Iout 600 mA

Q1. The simulation stops and shows a convergence problem in transient analysis. How can I solve this problem?

Q2. Is it possible use a voltage drop higher than 7 V on VCC pin to get a higher Vgs. How can I do that?

Please tell us the method to calculate the output ripple voltage under the following conditions.

1.

Vin=15V

Vout=5V

2.

Vin=15V

Vout=3.3V

Does the output ripple voltage change with output current, capacitance and inductance?

Can we check the output ripple voltage by WEBENCH?

BQ24161: Battery Fault: What does lead to a battery fault in the Status / Control register?

Hello,

my customer uses the BQ24161 together with a standard Li-Ion cell from Sanyo (https://www.akkuteile.de/lithium-ionen-akkus/18650/sanyo/sanyo-ur18650fm-geschuetzt-li-ion-3-7v-2600mah/a-100687/) in a self developed test setup.

Sometimes during charging a "Battery Fault" in the Status / Control Register occurs. We cannot find anything in the documentation that describes how this fault is triggered? Can you help here  please?

How serious should this fault be treated?

What is your recommended  way of treating this fault? Can you ignore it, in case you reset the device and it won't come back during timeframe x?

TPS62561: TPS62561 and TPS62743 load regulation data

Hi team,

My customer is evaluating TPS62561 and TPS62743.

For TPS62561, the input is 3.8V and the output is 3.3V. Customer wants to know the output voltage when @ maximum 600mA output current.

For TPS62743, the input is 3.8V and output is 1.8V and 1.2V. Customer wants to know the output voltage of 1.8V and 1.2V setup when @ maximum 300mA output current.

I searched the datasheet of these 2 devices but only TPS62743 provides the load regulation data under VOUT = 1.8V condition. So could you please help provide the data that customer requires? Do we have a curve to show the relationship between Iout and Vout? Thanks.

BQ77915: Selection of CHG and DSG MOSFETs

Dear Ti,

The CHG and DSG MOSFETs which we are using now in our application is IRF510 (a through hole component). The expected results and obtained results are not matching.

Both the MOSFETs are not turning ON upon instant POR under NORMAL mode operation. Do you recommend the above mentioned  MOSFETs for use?

If no, Can you please suggest any through hole MOSFET component?
