bq40z50-R1 Impedance Track

$

Hello is there any detailed description about the calculation of these Parameters?

I already found some calculations in the datasheets and application notes of other devices.

RSOC = 100 x (RM / FCC)

FCC = Qstart + PassedCharge + RM,

RM = Remaining capacity gotten with voltage simulation from current voltage state and based on the current/load setting and internal resistance and temperature

ASOC = 100 x (RM / Design Capacity),

True Remaining Q

Flt Rem Q

True Full Charge Q

Flt Full Charge Q

I would like to test if the impedance track algoriths is able to predict the right remaining capacity at different temperatures. Whats the best way to do it?

Guess the pack has to be within the same temperature for at least 5 hours right, or should it be more???

BQ40z60 does not charge 4S pack to maximum voltage

When I do a charge cycle on my 4S battery pack (SDI ICR18650-26F), the charging terminates at 4100mV per cell, instead of 4200mV.  Here are my settings in data memory. What should I do to get it to charge to 4200 mV per cell (16800mV for the entire pack)?

bqstudio does not recognize the bq34z100evm boad

I'm trying to run bqstudio version 1.3.42 through the EV2300 version 3.1m and communicate with a bq34z1xxEVM board.  When I invoke the studio I get this message:

I have connected using the 0100_0_15-bq34z100G1.bqz and the 0100_0_16-bq34z100G1.bqz targets but I'm getting flaky results when I try to change data memory values.  The software "allows" me to change a value but when I try to write to flash the value does not get written.  I cannot use the IC in it's present configuration.  Does anyone have a clue as to what to do to correct this problem?

Thanks!

bq40z60 with bqproduction studio and bqmultistation tester

I have a bq40z60-evm connected to an HPA495 connected to an EV2300.  When I try to find the device with bqmultistation tester (instlaled and running as administrator) I get three successive errors:

1. Board 0 was either disconnected or is in use by another program. Please make corrections and try again.

2. Communication error -1 while trying to read board firmware version

3. Communication error 2 while trying to read ID for board 0

However, with the same setup in bqproduction I can successfully find the board during "scan for devices", and I'm able to flash the LED's.  After this, however, I get a different error:

error code 772: no acknowledge from device

My main questions are:

1. why can't bqmultistation find the boards, and how can i resolve this error?

2. why can't bqproduction receive an acknowledge from device? Do I need to supply power to VAC on the bq40z60EVM as well as to the HPA495?

CHARGING CURRENT is too low ?

Hi,

I am using BQ24735, BQ40z50 combination to charge and monitor battery of 2200mAh of 0-4.2V ( 3.7V )

I desgined Battery capacity - 2200mAh, Voltage - 14800mV, standard low charge current - 1024mA and High current to 1500mA.

It is showing Full charge capacity as 2163mAh why ?

After 80% it takes very much less current to charge, i.e.. 100mA gradually decreases for 89% it is taking 27mA to charge. (It takes so much time to charge in this current). So please suggest me, how to solve this problem.

BQ40z60 and BqStudio Charging/Discharging

I have the bq40z60evm board connected to an EV2300 and a 12V lab power supply for VAC.  BqStudio seems to be reading the voltages properly and the battery health correctly, but I can't for the life of me get it to charge or discharge, even if I turn on the CHG/DSG FET's.  I also am a bit confused about running the learning cycle calibration since both manual and automated modes specify they need external relays.  Any advice in the right direction would be useful!

RSOC vs ASOC, what's the difference?

What's the difference between relative state of charge and absolute state of charge? I can't find an explanation anywhere in the TRM or datasheet.

“Texas Instruments supplies the bqTester source code.”

“The source code is also available for TesterDFReader.”

Where I can get mentioned source codes?

bq27510-G3 detect when no battery connected

Is there a reliable way of telling from the I2c interface if a battery is connected or not?

In my design I am not using interrupts for event notification. I am not interested in the battery insertion or removal just whether there is a battery connected or not. I was previously checking Average and Instantaneous current for zero since in bqstudio these values fall to zero when the battery is disconnected but have some value otherwise. When I monitor the fuel gauge on my system board however these values also fall to zero when the battery is fully charged (SOC=100%) so that is not a reliable indicator.

Hi,

i´m evaluating the fuel gauge BQ34Z950 with the interface board EV2300. I want to programm the BQ34Z950 but i can´t build up a communication over the SMBus. I tried to use the Battery Management Studio software to configurate the BQ34Z950, but the chip is missing in the device list.

Am i using the right software or do i need other software? Will it work with my hardware or do i need additional hardware?

Thanks for help.

BQ34Z100 Chem ID

We have successfully configured the BQ34Z100G1 using a microcontroller  and embedded code.  However we cannot work out how to set the Chem ID using embedded code, or work out if it is even possible.  We have configured successfully using BQStudio, but need to extract the settings and embed them in the code.  Can it be done?

We would be changing the Chem ID to LiFePO4 (eg 0443).  If we left the CHem ID unchanged at default, how inaccurate would the SOC and SOH readings be?

Kind Regards

Hi,

Before I used to use BQ34Z100. For this I have document SLUA664 where is described how to configure data flash.

I can't find this document for ne BQ34z100G1. Where to find it?

New chip has few new parameters and I need to know how to configure it.

Have managed to setup and get bqStudio working with BQ27541EVM.

Now would like to get bqStudio working with BQ3055EVM but it does not seem to support it.

Is there a manual configuration or file I can construct or available to use?

If bqStudio can not support BQ3055 fuel gauge device what else can I use?

Many thanks

Paul

BQ40z60 - OCD1 and OCD2 recovery

Hi,

after a Over-current during Discharge (OCD) event the Safety Status low bit (OCD1 and/or OCD2) and XDSG is set.

Discharge is disabled - thats working fine.

The OCD recovery threshold is set to 200mA and 5s. The problem is to enable discharge after OCD event occurred. I have to send a reset command to reset OCD status. How can I set the BQ40z60 to automatic enable discharge after OCD event?

Best regards,

Fabian

bq40z50 Discharging at -30 Degree

I let the Pack pack rest at an ambient temperature of -30 degree for 20 hours.

I am using load mode 0 (current mode) and the reseve cap is set to 200 mAh. and Load Select is set to 0 (Avg I Last Run)

The estimated remaining capacity shown by the bq40z50 was around 2700 mAh, but the load showed an discharged capacity of 3380

so this results in an error of  (2700 + 200)/3380= 0,858 -->15%

RSOC, ASOC and Remaining capacity show totally false values.

The battery Pack says, that

HDQ Data incorrect from bq34z100

Hi

I have a problem with reading data from a bq34z100 using a MSP430F5308. I can read all registers fine, but randomly some will read back values that are quite incorrect (i.e. temperature would report back -117 deg C)

From what I can see, this is happening on all registers but not all the time, sometimes it is hours before it occurs.

Does anyone know of any problems with reading HDQ data over a long period of time?

Thanks in advance for the help

BQ20Z45 INIT bit

$

Dear Sir,

We would like to inquire regarding the INIT bit for BQ20Z45

Our customer has asked us to simulate our battery pack with high discharge power (178W) under high ambient temperature (60degC). For this pack, we have disabled all PF settings and set our protection values to maximum especially current and temperature just to see if there would be any effect on the battery pack. We were charging at 0.63C and has set to cut-off at 0.01C.

We were able to do a continuous 3 cycle charge-discharge with no rest time in between.

First Charge : INIT bit OK

First Discharge : INIT bit OK

Second Charge : INIT bit turns OFF when the Current becomes zero

Second Discharge : INIT bit is still OFF and only turns ON when RSOC becomes 95% (based from our Dataflash, we only have a 95% setting for TCA Clear% and FC Clear %)

Third Charge : Same as Second Charge. INIT bit turns OFF when the Current becomes zero

Third Discharge : Same as Second Discharge. INIT bit is OFF and only turns ON when RSOC becomes 95%

Now, we tried doing the same test at ambient temperature of 25degC. After removing the charger, I have allotted a 1-hour rest before I started to do discharge of 178W to see if it would affect the INIT bit but the results are the same. The INIT bit turns OFF when the current becomes zero. During the whole rest period, the iNIT bit is also OFF. INIT bit only turns ON when RSOC becomes 95%.

I have checked our previous learning cycle for this battery pack and based from the log data we never lost the INIT bit throughout the whole cycle which includes charging, rest of 2hours, discharge, 5hours rest time. And we would like to understand why the INIT bit is turning OFF? And what are the effects when this INIT bit is OFF? Will it have any effect on the fuel gauging of our battery pack?

I have attached the DF and the charge-discharge confirmation under 25degC for your reference.

Thank you sir and hoping for your immediate response.

Thank you and Best Regards,

Karen(Please visit the site to view this file)
