BQ34Z110: Help check MCU+ BQ34Z110 schematic and some query

Part Number:BQ34Z110

Hi

Help check the attached schematic.

A SRP, SRN, P1, P2, TS, HDQ didn’t connect up the BQ34Z110.

I2C wire connect 1.8K Pull-up resistance, and I2C bps is 400K.

12V and 5V are specified on a picture, and they were used Power supply voltage.

Currently between Mcu(Atmega128) and BQ34Z110 still do not communicate.

1. If I connect a CE, REGIN, VSS, SDA and SCL up to a BQ34Z110, between a MCU(ATMega128) and BQ34Z110 can be communication?

2. I config circuit as picture in www.mikrocontroller.net/.../339243, then supply voltage to VEN Pin. but voltage near to 0 voltage.
Is it nomal operation? When I organized a circuit as a picture and then supply Voltage to the VEN pin, the voltage was close to 0V.

After supply voltage to a BQ34Z110, a MCU sent out BlockDataControl Packet to BQ34Z110. but a BQ34Z110 didn’t receive return data.

If I want to BQ34Z110’s normal operate, do I send a start packet(like a something special packet) for BQ34Z110’s normal operate?

Thanks

Part Number:BQ35100EVM-795

Running bqstudiov1.3.54 and selecting "0100_1_02-bq35100.bqz" as target gives me a prompt reading "The detected device is not compatible with this application! Some actions could cause the device to lose communication permantly and enter and unrecoverable state. Proceed at your own risk. Select OK to continue, Cancel or close the application.". That got me confused, isn't the board supported? On the Evaluation Module User’s Guide, Figure 2, the screenshot shows v1.3.53 and bq35100 0100_1_01 as the device (which is not listed on my version of bqstudio). Is it possible to download older versions of the software?

Thank you.

BQ40Z60: Cell 1 of 4 cell pack is swelling in system

Part Number:BQ40Z60

I have a design using the bq40z60 IC as a pack manager.  I am using LiFePO4 batteries from batteryspace.com LFP-100122200-2C.  Currently, I have 5 complete units with this design that have been operating for several months.  Their use has been pretty sporadic, but I am starting to see a trend where cell 1 of the packs is swelling over time.  In fact, I have had to rebuild the battery pack in each of the units.  I am pretty certain that I have all of the cell cutoffs set correctly so that the battery is protected, but obviously something is wrong.  I realize at this point this information is pretty vague, but I was hoping to use it as a starting point to start tracking down my issue.  Can you provide some insight on where I should be looking?

Thanks

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

I am using bq34z100-g1 in EV application.

SO I think in load select mode, constant power is much more suited.

But in this default setting is for "Average discharge power from previous cycle"?

What purpose does it serve i.e average discharge power from previous cycle.

What should be best setting for EV application?

BQ27510-G3: Simultaneous temperature and SOC charge inhibition possible?

Part Number:BQ27510-G3

Hey everyone,

In our design, we use a BQ27510-G3 in conjunction with a BQ24040 charger IC, they are connected via GPOUT -> TS. I've configured the gas gauge to inhibit charging when the battery reaches certain temperature thresholds (by setting PFC_CFG to 01 inside OpConfig). I was wondering if it is possible with this setup to incorporate a simultaneous logic to enable/disable charging according to the battery's state of charge as well (f.i. below x % soc, don't let the charging begin). We would consider to add this in order to enhance the battery's lifetime. Would this work side by side and if yes, which configuration parameters need to be changed?

Thanks!

BQ27421-G1: question regarding on-chip OTP

$

Part Number:BQ27421-G1

Team,

a customer of mine is trying to design in BQ27421-G1 and have the following question:

“ The device datasheet (http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/bq27421-g1.pdf) chapter 9.2.1. decribes the possibility of programming the One-Time Programmable Memory (OTP).  However I can’t find in any document the description for this procedure. What is described is only that the Standard Data Memory Parameter is configured in to the RAM.

Is there any possibility to write the most important parameters (for example Design Capacity, Design Energy, Terminate Voltage and Taper Rate) into the Non Volatile Memory (OTP), to that these Data will be initialized during Power On Reset (POR)? Or is it necessary for the Microcontroller to write these data manually after every POR?”

Thank you in advance for the answer.

BQ34Z110: How do you change data flash parameters to account for size of sense resistor

Part Number:BQ34Z110

Hello,

I am using the BQ34110EVM with high capacity PbA batteries. I know how to scale the current/capacity, but I am not sure how to change data flash parameters to account for the size of a different sense resistor. I am bypassing the 0.01 Ohm resistor that comes on the EVM (to ensure the input voltage generated across the current-sense resistor does not exceed ±125 mV), but I can't figure out how to tell the BQ34110 that the sense resistor is a different size.

Thanks.

Hello!
Sorry for my probably stupid question.
I have a very rare laptop battery, and I want to replace the batteries in it. The power controller is built on chips bq29310+bq80201. Can I unlock this controller having only EV2300 and your software to it? The question is very important, because I live in Russia, and EV2300 costs as a half of my salary.

BQ40Z60: BQ40z60

Part Number:BQ40Z60

I am using the bq40z60 part.  I have completed the following:  Downloaded the correct cell chemistry file, edited the gg.csv file with the appropriate information, performed calibration, and performed the optimization cycles for this battery pack.  The Qmax has been updated to 0E and the Ra tables have been updated.

I read an earlier post that states the following

Here are the steps to create the golden srec file.

•Run the Optimization Cycle to update Qmax and the Ra-table.

•Go to the Data Flash window and press the Read All button.

•Export the gg.csv file

•Edit the gg.csv file using a text editor. e.g. Notepad. Do not use Excel.

•Set the Update Status to 02 and set the Cycle Count to 0.

•Load the default .srec file into the device.

•Load the ChemID into the device.

•Load your modified gg.csv file into the device and press the Write All button. (Be sure to import the calibration data as well.)

•Save the golden .srec file.

Question  -- Since I have completed these steps already shouldn't I just have to change the Update Status to 02 and the cycle count to 0 in BQ Studio and save the .srec file as the Golden Image?  If not could you please explain the reason?

Thanks

Cliff

BQ27441-G1: Is there anything else needed to make GPOut toggle?

$

Part Number:BQ27441-G1

Hi There,

I am trying to get the interrupts from GPOut but it does not seem to be working. Every value is as its default. I checked OPCONFIG and it is 0x25F8. That is, GPIO_POL = BAT_LOW_EN = 0. So, it should send the 1 ms pulse. It has an external pull up of 10k and it is then connected to a GPIO of the host processor.

I checked to see if it worked when Init ends or when charge state changes and nothing. I am even trying to toggle it sending 0x0001 0x0023 but nothing happens.

Am I still missing something?

Please keep this amongst TI engineers for now.  Do not share with the public.

I know the bq28z610 is intended for device applications, but after reading the datasheet and TRM, it seems to me the in-system circuit in the attached schematic would work.  Correct me if I'm wrong.(Please visit the site to view this file)

BQ34Z100-G1: Using I2C, unable to write long string of data to register "0x00"

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

Hi,

I am using device BQ34Z100G1, and Battery Management Studio, to write a long string of data to register "0x00".

Basically I am trying to program the file .df.fs to the chip.  One of the instruction is quite long, see below:

.......
W: 16 00 02 00 00 00 EA FF 33 B1 FA 33 6C FB 33 95 FE 33 AD FE 33 FF FF 3F FF FF 3F FF FF 3F FF FF 3F FF FF 3F FF FF 3F FF FF 3F FF FF 3F FF FF 3F FF FF 3F FF FF 3F 16 00 3F 58 CB 33 C3 00 08 11 00 00 00 00 00 FF AA 0E FB A7 0E FF A6 0E FF A1 0E FF A0 0E FE A3 0E 61 A2 0E DE FF 3A 65 FF 3A E2 FF 33 FF AF 0E

When I tried to write this using BQStudio, there is an error.  But if I shorten the data string, to about only 25, then it writes fine.

Is there anyway to partition this into smaller command?  My problem is this is not a typical I2C register write so

I can't simply partition to smaller amount, or can I?  How would I do that?

So my question: is there any limitation in the tool in term of the amount of data that be be written at any time?

Thanks,

-Andy

BQ4050: Why Operation Status A (Low) Fuse bit is always set as 1

$

Part Number:BQ4050

Hi,

I am trying to incorporate the BQ4050 into my new design but have encountered some problems setting the thing up.

I would like to check what causes the Fuse bit in the operation Status A(Low) register to be asserted high other than the Permanent Fails? I have checked the Permanent Fail Register and they all register 0 and i have also replaced the mosfet to ensure that they are working.

As the fuse bit is high, i am unable to turn on or off the fets using the FET_EN or DSG_FET_TOGGLE. However using the evaluation module, the fuse bit is set low i am able to turn the fets on and off.

I have checked that the data memory is the same as the evaluation board but to no avail.

Is there any setup procedures that i need to perform to get the thing working?

I am using the BQ4050 target in the battery management studio instead of the BQ40z50as my IC is BQ4050

I have attached the image of the Bit Registers of my battery management IC in the post.

Thanks for your time and help.

Best regards,

Louis

BQ40Z60: Charger with power path?

$

Part Number:BQ40Z60

I'm making a system side battery charger/PMIC for part of an active project and I initially thought the bq40z60 would do all I needed for charging, balancing, power path, etc for a Lipo 3S battery pack.  I've been trying to get a grasp on the bq40z60 evm board the past two weeks and I've got some questions or concerns:

  1. This has been asked before, but not answered.  Can the bq40z60 work standalone without a microcontroller telling it when to turn on it's FETs?  I'd like the ability to flash it in production for automated use without microcontroller intervention (except for reading battery stats and gauging).  I do not want to have to chose when the battery needs to charge, when it needs to turn on outputs, unseal, reseal, etc.
  2. If I plug in a power adapter, I want the VSYS power to switch to the adapter as the power source and charge the battery if needed.  Again without a uC or PC telling it to do so.  I haven't been able to figure out the correct commands to flash to the device to enable output and automatic charging on startup.
  3. Without the adapter, I would like the bq40z60 to keep battery power on VSYS to power the rest of the device. I want to have power immediately at VSYS when I plug the battery.  From what I can tell, a micro or pc has to tell the bq40z60 to wake-up, unseal, and turn on necessary FETs.  What setting does this for me by default?  This is basic power pathing.  The chip is supposed to support it so I'm probably doing something wrong.
  4. I'm using an off the shelf lipo 2200mAh battery and am unsure as to what chemistry id to set it for.  I have so far just picked from the list a chemistry that had the same amp hr rating and lithium polymer.
  5. Just to be clear on operation:  As I'm charging the battery, I notice my power supply normally charges at 1.6aHr at 15V, then I see that it starts switching the charging on and off going from 0-1.6ahr rather frequently.  I have cell balancing enabled and I assumed this was the cell balance routine, correct?  One of the times this was occuring, I had VSYS enabled and it was also turning off and on at the same rate.  Is there a setting that keeps VSYS constant on?

I have been using the BQ24075 for so long that I'm really trying to get the same functionality except for obvious higher input voltage, 3S LiPo, and cell balancing as this seems to me to be very much needed for 2+ cells.  I just love how that chip is so standalone and does all the switching internally with no need for external control.

Thanks for the help all.

BQ33100: Is CHGLVLx need for Li-Cap?

Part Number:BQ33100

Hi all,

Please let me know about the need for CHGLVLx.
I have a plan to use the device for control of charge and discharge to Li - Cap and lifetime management.
(I understand that this device is not recommended to Li-Cap.)

Questions;
 - Li-Cap's ESR is very lower,
: I guess therefore, charging voltage modify is not need.
: I guess therefore, it is difficult to predict capacity life.
   Are these correct?

 - What is the reason that recommended using to CHGLVLx?

 - Please let me know the measurable lower limit value of ESR for Capacity life prediction.

Regards,
ACGUY
