BQ34z110 optimization cycle

Mr. Thomas,

Please find the attached .senc file.(The file extension is changed to .jpeg, since .senc cant be uploaded, please change the extension, sorry for the trouble)

I am trying to optimize BQ, for a 12V 7500mAH battery. The charger and the load is connected and controlled using a microcontroller and it is an automated process.

The following is my learning process:

1. Without enabling the IT algorithm, I charge the battery, till the current flowing in the battery is less then tapper current and I relax the battery.

2. I clear the update status to 0 so that a new optimization cycle is not affected the previous cycle. Is it a problem? or should i load the value with 4?

3.I enable the IT algorithm, and discharge the battery below 500mV cell voltage and temporarily adjust the cell terminate voltage.

4. Relax the battery and wait until OCV is taken.

5. Charge the battery until inflow current is less then tapper current.

6. relax the battery and wait until OCV is taken.

7. Discharge the battery below 500mv cell voltage.Relax the battery and wait until OCV is taken.

as per the micro controller program, the cycle should continue till update status is 6. But it stays in 4 after a complete cycle.

Please help me to figure out the problem.

Cell balancing for bq20z65

Hello,

I have a 7.4V 7800mAh 2S3P 18650 Li-Ion soft battery pack and I want to add BQ20z65 for capacity measurements. Battery pack only has BAT+, 10kNTC and BAT- connector so my question is can BQ20z65 work with without connecting single cells from the pack to it or do I need those connections from battery pack?

Thanks

Bq20z65 Activation issue

Hi

For a new product I'm including the bq20z65R1 to manage 2s LiPo 5300mA batteries.

I made a simplified design, which have been tested on the Eval bord without problem

:(Please visit the site to view this file)

Now I can charge the battery, with both FET turned ON.

The problem is when I disconnect the charger. The DSC FET is turned OFF, and 2 errors flags are set:

XDSG and XDSGI

To be accurate, with no load, I can read 16V for 1sec, 5.4V for 1 sec, and then 0V. With a load, I read just few mV.

Any idea to help us for this projet ?

Thanks in advance.

Calibrate battery with BQ34Z100PW

Hi,

I've a problem with the calibration of my battery with the BQ34Z100PW.

My battery specs:
26.4V
12 Ah
 316.8Wh

The problem is my capacity in the data ram isn't the same as the design capacity I programmed to the BQ34Z100PW.
I thought when I use the learning cycle, the capacity will change.
But  when I start the learn cycle the VOK bit is still high after 3 hours.
I followed this document http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slua334b/slua334b.pdf.
The charge current is 4A and I discharge with 2.4A.

Also I need to use the  X10, because I need to fill in 316.8Wh.
What is the effect for the other settings of the X10.
Because when I read page 19 of the datasheet I can't find which settings are scaled.

I look forward for the answers on my questions.

BQ27510-G3 battery chemistry question

Hi

Can someone please advise on the type of Li Ion battery chemistry required to use this charger.

I have an 1800mAH single cell LiCoO2 battery which I would like to use with this device, but i'm unsure if it will work correctly.

The datasheet does not specify an exact chemistry type, instead the description is "Battery Fuel Gauge for 1-Series Li-Ion Applications".

For example the BQ27410 datasheet specifies a battery chemistry of LiCoO2. Also other devices give you a choice between LiCoO2 and LiMn2O4 depending on the part number variant you select.

I haven't used this part before and i am using the Boostxl Battery Boosterpack Reference circuit as a guide, but they don't specify the exact battery chemistry used (they refer to the battery as lithium polymer).

Thanks

bq27541V200 Data Flash with EVSW

I am using the EVSW V.0.9.88 to program bq27541V200 parts.  When I open the DATA FLASH tab and look at subclass CONFIGURATION subclass DATA I see the locations as I expect to see based upon the data sheet SLUSA11A, page 20 Table 7, but also in the same Subclass DATA I see two spots to enter SERIAL NUMBER and DATE OF MFG.  They are located between the Initial Max Load and Cycle count.  I know it works because I can set that data and then read it back and its valid.  Since its not referred  to in the data sheet, I don't know where it is storing these two pieces of data. Since I don't know where it is putting it, I don't know how to read it back with my host.

Please tell me where this is being stored by EVSW.

Oddly, when I look at SLUA561B "configuring the bq27541-v200 data flash" document, it shows a screen shot of the EVSW that does not include the ability to set serial number or date of mfg in the DATA subclass.

bq27531 - High current peaks on MLC Charging

I'm designing the supply adapter for our bq27531/bq24192 circuit and I'm a bit puzzled by the high current peaks at the beginning of the MLC charge cycles.

As recorded by GaugeStudio, the current is about 1.5C for a minute or so, then jumps between stages for ten minutes before settling down. See attached.

Is this proper MLC behavior? I'll need to design my front end adapter accordingly (i.e. beefier) if so.

BTW - the end product is a rechargeable external battery pack for a popular "extreme" video camera :-)

bq34z100 startup time

Hi,

I am trying to communicate with a bq34z100 with a mikrocontroller via i2c.

Everything is working ok so far, there is however one strange behaviour.

After I activate the board (set power supply to on) and try to start communicating with the bq34z100 before ~2s have passed (>350ms for startup delay) then the communication will only work for a short time (<1s) and then the clock line will be pulled low for 2s.

If I start the communication with a delay >2s then this behaviour cannot be seen and the communication stays normal. It does not matter if I put the delay in front of the program or just wait for starting the communication with the bq34z100 later in my program.

The setup: LM4F µC connected to bq77pl900 and bq34z100. Internal pullups of bq77pl900. (bq77pl900 communications start after 8ms of powerup and is ok).

The communication consists of the readout of the devicename (-> AA 63 ...). This also returns the correct value (bq34z100) except for that time described above. Then the clock and data line stay low after AA 63, after a while (5ms) the microcontroller detects the hang and let's go of the data line so it is pulled up, however the clock line is still pulled low (clockstretching?) for 2s. Then the clock line is released the communication restarts and everything works fine from there on.

I checked the CE and REGIN, they are at stable 3,3V, also the REG25 is stable at 2,5V after startup.

Has anyone observed anything like that before? Or is there a startup delay in the datasheet I have missed?

Greetings!

 Jan

Capacity estimation BQ20z65-R1

The capacity estimation does not function correct when the ambient temperature changes, remaining capacity and fullcharge capacity are only updated if the start capacity-estimation-command (0x21) is sent again to the part.

chemID does't change in data flash in bqEASY bq27510-G2

i'm using bqEASY with bq27510-G2. Here's the steps

1) put device in rom mode with - i2c command: 00, Data block: 000f

2) program new .senc file, software indicated download was success

3) power cycled board - i'm not sure if this is where I messed up. i didn't press "execute" in bqEasy. i thought a power cycle would cause the new .senc to execute.

4) went thru bqEASY steps and selected chem ID 1107. Software took a while writing to the device

result: chemID has not been updated in data flash. it still reads 0100. what is wrong?

BQ27530-G1 Unable to read 0x74 (CHRGSTAT) I2C

Hello,

I am trying to read command 0x74 on the BQ27530-G1. I am getting a NACK return when I do this and a repeatable sequence of values that do not make sense.

I am able to read addresses 0x75 and above, but not 0x74. If the gas gauge is not connected I would expect a return of 0x40.

The process I am using to read this address is as follow:

S 0x55 A 0x74 A data_returned_to_host

but I am getting

S 0x55 A 0x74 N

Is there any advice or piece of ducmentation that could assist me with this? Thanks.

Hi, Where can I download the source code for the bqSingleSite tester program? I know it's not usually available through normal channels. I know it's old and not supported, but it contains EV2300 objects I need for some old custom software. Thanks! Phil

Programming the bq27510-G1

Hi-

I'm attempting to program a bq27510-G1 chip with new data.

I've created .bqfs and .dffs files with flashstream and am attempting to program the .dffs file into a device. All goes well through the first 221 lines of the file, then near the end, the last compare fails. Here's what the compare record looks like:

C: 16 04 A6 A7 A4 F9

The actual data returned by the device is:

0xda, oxfe, 0x46, 0x55

... obviously not a good compare.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

BQ77910A and 2-wire solution

$

Hi everybody,

I'm working on a protection design for Li-ion Titanate cells using a  BQ77910A. I have some difficulties to understand which design to use for the charger detection. I know the "latched2wire" design, the CHGST pin remains high until a fault occurs. So, in this condition, it is not possible to use the Cell-Balance in mode 2 or 3 because the BQ77910A see a charger even if i have removed it, is that right? If the BQ77910A doesn't see the charger removal, there are not much advantages of this method over to tie CHGST high?

Before the revision of the BQ77910, the 2 wires scheme was not latched and a 100ms pulse on CHGST wake up the chip. But it is not possible to use the Cell-Balance in mode 2, and mode 3 has to use the timer expiration because the BQ77910A see the charger already removed. Am i right? The advantage of this methode is to be able to use de shutdown mode.

Btw, is the 2-wire without latch method sure with the new revision of the chip or there is still an issue with the UV fault recovery?

Thank you, best regards.

Pierrick.

Charging LiPo batteries in parallel

Can I design 4 cells LiPo battery with 2 pairs in series while each pair having 2 cells in parallel? If yes, how do I used gas gauge there. All the gas gauge ICs have schematics only with cell in series.

BQ34z100 SoC is decreasing to 94% in a week

Hello,

I have BQ34Z100 with high capacity 4-cell LiFePO4 battery. I came through the learning cycle and Update Status is reached 06. I am charging the battery with automatic charger till 14.6 volt and this voltage is normally lowering till 13.6V during 1 day of relaxation. The problem is that BQ34z100 State of charge is decreasing to 94% in a week with no load (I checked it once in two days), and is staying constantly on this level after it. Now the battery voltage is 13.4V (BH is set) and SoC is not decreasing any more during 2 weeks.

I was thinking the problem is because of cleared BH flag during relaxation. I lowered Cell BH Clear Volt Threshold value till 3250 (it was 3400 before), but the problem still exist.

What the problem could be? Could it be something wrong in Data Flash parameters?

GG is attached(Please visit the site to view this file)

Thanks in advance,
Ilja

How do you communicate with multiple batteries that are wired in series over SMBus?

How do you communicate with multiple batteries that are wired in series? The problem is that each SMBus ground is at a different voltage, so they cannot be connected together unless the SMBus is isolated.
