Hi,
I am programming a bq20z60 and after several tests I have seen that for some reason I cannot enter SLEEP and SHUTDOWN modes. I have tried to follow the SLUU386 reference manual but still is not working to me. What may I try to solve it?
Also I have seen that with no load, the current reported is -10mA and I guess it should be 0. What is it wrong there?
Finally, for charge termination I can can make the battery switch of at taper current limit, but it turns on again after 2 Taper Window periods.
Looking fordward to hearing from you.
Thank you very much.
Bimi.
When starting the program, i come in the DATA RAM page which seems to be work good.
If i i press the refresh button, two off the flag blocks are colored . When i switch to DATA FLASH page i getting the error message :
Date: Time : Error reading Data Flash Subclass
Lifetime Temp Samples Code = 772
Is it possible that the chip is in sleeping or power down mode , it is a brand new unused chip.
Hi! i configured my Linux Kernel 2.6.36 with the driver for BQ27200. The version is 1.1.0.
But when i running Linux, i have this bugs (see the attach file).
I tested the IC without driver (i used a script and I2C commands) and the IC works fine. So i think the problem is in the driver.
Anyone works fine with this driver?
Thanks for the future helps!

Hi,
Would like to understand the potential root cause for the voltage leakage.
There is no known loading effect and there is no short found as well.
On top of that, the cell balancing feature is also not being enabled and test has been conducted with 2 new batteries and the result is still the same.
The nominal capacity for this battery is 12 Ah, Li-Ion pack.
Below is the waveform captured with and without the BMS.

Hello,
I'm having an issue with interfacing to a bq78PL116. I have two identical battery packs. One works fine with the GPIO USB adapter from TI and the other not. The second pack use to work....voltage on the SDA and SCL pins have never exceeded 5V.
The SDA line is pulled low by the slave(PL116) all the time! The pack is charged. The SCL line is high.
The GPIO tool has pull up resistors.
Any Ideas?
Thanks ,
Bruce
Hi,
I am having an issue with the application example on page 11 in the bq27421-G1 Technical Reference (Literature Number: SLUUAC5). I am able to successfully update the design capacity bytes and I verified this calling the design capacity command (DesignCapacity( ): 0x3c/0x3d). This command returns my new design capacity; however, after about 2 seconds, the device is being reset which causes the design capacity bytes to return to the default values. When the reset happens, the ITPOR bit in the flags register (Flags( ): 0x06/0x07) is set as well as the WDRESET bit (Watchdog Reset) in the CONTROL_STATUS register. If I do not update the design capacity bytes, the watchdog reset does not occur.
Thanks in advance for you help,
Bryan
The progress bar for the .DFI read was almost to finished when I got an error message about a path or file problem. It may have been because I was logged in as a User, not Administrator, and there was a _0541_0112_GOLDEN.dfiI file already in the C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\bq Evaluation Software\Plugins\Projects folder from another user, so the bqEasy could not overwrite it.
I have not been able to communicate with the bq27541 since. Could it be in a ROM mode or something similar. Any suggestions on how I might regain communication?
Hi everyone !
I need information about BQ27510-G1.
What reason for update evaluation Software Version?
0.9.71(release DATE2010.11.03) -> 0.9.92(release DATE: 2013.3.5)
Please send me if you have any information.
Best Regards.

I working on a system that will have two battery packs. What's the recommended way to communicate to each on the same SMBus since this device has no input pin to adjust the device address?
I am trying to use the SMBus data from the bq20z90 as a diagnostic tool to allow my battery charger to diagnose various faults in the battery. To validate the charger firmware, I need to be able to apply induced faults onto the battery to verify that the charger firmware can detect them. At this point I am down to not being able to detect Initialization in the Battery Status function and Over Charge in the Charging Faults function. Is there any way to "force" these data bits TRUE so my charger firmware can read a "faulted" battery in order to verify the diagnostic performance?
The Mathcad file in sluc138 is not compatible with the newer version of Mathcad from PTC because TI have locked & hidden areas in the sheet.
I'm not quite sure why TI want to hide part of the calculation for the Chemistry? Has anyone managed to convert this script to the Mathcad Prime version?
Could TI please update the script to the newer Mathcad versions or supply the lock password so that we can do it for ourselves.
Thanks.
Greetings,
I am trying to create a golden pack image for a bq20z655-R1. The application note SLUA379E (Data Flash Programming and Calibrating the bq20zxx Family of Gas Gauges) describes a procedure for preparing a golden pack for the bq20zxx family. In section 2.1 (creating pre-learned defaults), step 10 says to "reprogram the pack with a fresh .senc to clear all hidden constants". Where can I get this file? I have been trying to find it on the product page, or in this forum, but I have not come across it yet. Can you please provide me with the file to use? For context, I have included the full procedure described in section 2.1 of the application note at the end of this message. Perhaps the additional context will make clear what the application note is attempting to get me to do.
Thank you,
Jason Maestri
1. Assemble a battery pack with the bq20z80 solution, which includes setting basic flash constants for a
given pack configuration, calibrating the pack, connecting System Present to ground, and enabling IT.
This is described in detail in the application report Pack Assembly and the bq20z80 (SLUA335), which
also applies to the bq20zxx.
2. In particular, it is important to set parameters specific to the number of serial cells used. This is
described in application report bq20z80 EVM Data Flash Settings for Number of Serial Cells and Pack
Capacity (SLVA208), which also applies to the rest of the bq20zxx family.
3. To achieve maximum accuracy of first cycle parameter acquisition, set an initial guess for Qmax Cell 0,
Qmax Cell 1, Qmax Cell 2, Qmax Cell 3, and Qmax Pack. These values are in mAh as specified in the
battery manufacturer data sheet. For example, if single-cell data-sheet capacity is 2400 mAh and 3
parallel cells are used, set each value to 2400 × 3 = 7200 mAh.
4. Charge the pack to full.
5. Let it relax for 2 hours.
6. Discharge the pack to the minimum system-acceptable voltage (should be the same as DF.Gas
Gauging.IT Cfg.Term Voltage) at the typical application rate. The exact rate is not critical.
7. Let it relax for 5 hours.

8. Repeat Steps 4 through 7 to achieve maximum impedance table accuracy. Verify that DF.Gas
Gauging.State.Update Status reads 06. If not, repeat the cycle. Its normal value should be 06.
9. Use the EVSW to export the .gg File. Open the .gg file with Notepad to change DF.Gas
Gauging.State.UpdateStatus to 02. Change DF.SBS Configuration.Data.Cycle Count to 0.
10. Reprogram the pack with a fresh .senc to clear all hidden constants.
11. Use the EVSW to import the modified .gg file as saved in Step 9. Write All.
12. Send reset command (0x0041).
The golden pack is now ready to have its data flash read into a binary file as described in the function listed in Section 3.
I am evaluating the BQ20Z95 for a 3 Li Ion battery pack.
How can I evaluate the cell balancing performance? That is how can I quantitatively test that the cell balancing is working properly?
Thanks.
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had an experience with BOOSXL-BATTPACK.
I've got one to test it, but couldn't make it to work.
I left the battery to be charge and it never indicates the end of charge. Battery voltage ~4.1V with no load
Then I left if running with Tiva Launchpad for a few hours. The battery went low, battery voltage ~3.6V with no load.
After that it doesn't charge the battery, only indicates battery low.
After connecting to another charger battery starts charging.
What is the trick with that board?

HI,
I am trying to write to the data flash on a new battery design using the BQ20z65-R1 v1.05, but the aval software does not seem to be able to update the data flash. When I write to any of the registers they just turn red and revert to their original value. The SMBus communication works with all the SBS registers being read correctly.
I tried using bqChem and when that tries to write to the BQ20z65-R1 in order to update the chemistry, I get the following error: Writing Chemical Data, bqChemOCX - Fail read Verify, Abourt SubClass83 programming.
I can write to ManufacturerAccess, e.g. turn on the LEDs.
Flags/Status register summary:
BatteryStatus = TCA, TDA, INIT, DSG
OperationStatus = PRES, DSG, R_DIS
Do you know why I cannot write to the data flash?
Many thanks
Steve
Hello Team,
Im working with a customer called Vecture and i'm trying to figure what is the over voltage and under voltage threshold on BQ76925. i went through the datasheet and it doesnt appear to be there. I'm thinking it should be around 4.2V but wanted to double check to be completely sure.
Thank you,
Dmitry
I would like to use standalone voltage regulator such as LM5008 to power 3 x 356A for up to 18 cells lifePo4 battery, with mcu and some other communication module, beeper, it is likely consume 30mA.
i can use small linear voltage regulator like 15v to 5v and take power from cell 4 = ~ 15v, but this approach can caused pack imbalance especially when battery pack is in idle.
i can use switching regulator such as LM5008 and capable to handle 18 cell lipo ~ 66v to 5v power my mcu circuit as shown attached.
however with this approach i damaged few regulator when connect power to top 536A (#3 ic), i am not sure if connect like this has issues ?
