Part Number:BQ28Z610

Hi,

I'm having a tough time getting the fuel gauge to charge the battery. I've gone through and entered the settings in bq studio and my eval board seems to be happy enough to charge the battery, but when it comes to using it on my own board it just flags some errors, i can't seem to nail down what It might be. The errors I'm getting are FD, TDA, SOV, OTA, CUV, AOLD.

Reuben

BQ27426: Adapting to different requirements

Part Number:BQ27426

Hello,

Our team is planning to use the BQ27426 gas gauage after determining that we need ChemID 1202 for our battery chemistry. The procedure in collecting data for obtaining chemID was collecting data from the range of 3V to 4.2V (the upper and lower limits of the battery). Also, for background, our battery has a design voltage of 3.7V and design capacity of 2400mAh.

However, our team wants to set a charge limit up to 4.1V and a discharge limit of 3.1V. Does that mean that the process in determining the chemID be changed from collecting data from the ranges of 3.1V to 4.1V? My reasoning is that it should not, as we want the best possible match between our battery and gas gauge, meaning that the data should be collected from 3V to 4.2V. Is this correct?

If so, if we want to report a 100% SoC at 4.1V, is it correct that we can adjust the full charge capacity to report a 100% SoC instead of using the full 2400 mAh?

BQ34Z100-G1: LiFePo4 8S 24V Battery Pack Gas Monitoring

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

Hello

I am looking for a gas gauge product for a LiFePo4 battery pack (24V 30AH 8S) with only the Pack+ and Pack- terminals available. It looks like BQ34Z100-G1 is the recommended option but from the datasheet it looks like this has to be integrated with the BMS and cannot be used outside the battery pack. Also I am looking for 30AH and BQ34Z100-G1 is only 29AH.

I am looking for -40 to +125'C operating temperature as well.

Are there any products to suit this requirement? Or suggest the closest possible option.

BQ27510-G3: Chemistry Selection for new battery using BQ27510

Part Number:BQ27510-G3

I completed the steps in the chemistry ID selection application note and submitted the report online.  The response was:

Best chemical ID : 274 Best chemical ID max. deviation, % : 3.53

Summary of all IDs with max. DOD deviation below 3%

Chem ID max DOD error, % Max R deviation, ratio
0 0 0

Warning: Deviation is above recommended level. New chem ID needs to be released for this cell. Please contact your TI representative to send the cell to Dallas for characterization

I have 2 questions:

1)  How do I submit a battery for characterization?

2)  Can I use chemistry ID 274 in the BQ27510 short term and get halfway decent results?  Is 3.5% "close enough" for decent results?

Thanks,

Part Number:BQ27750EVM-837

Hi all,

I am doing a learning cycle using bq27750EVM-837.

I am doing following steps:

1. Starting unit and applying the discharging current.

2. The battery is discharged to 0% and then I switch off the current source.

3. relax battery for 5 hours.

4. Then apply charging current by interchanging the terminals of current source and apply appositive current.

5. The unit gets charged and then relaxation of 2 hours by switching off the current source.

6. Then after that again discharging and 5 hours relaxation.

The manual I have is for bq28z610/bq78z100 and it says that

[VOK] and [RDIS] bits in the IT status() register clear once the gauge has taken an OCV reading.

If not we can use IT_Enable command to take the reading.

Is there any command in bqstudio to make sure that this reading is taken because I cannot see any IT_Enable command.

How a golden image will help me estimating the life-cycle of the battery.

BQ27426: Can I have it report 100% at a different capacity?

Part Number:BQ27426

Hello, I have a battery that has a design voltage of 3700mV and a design capacity of 2400 mAh. It can be charged up to 4.2V and discharged down to 3V. I would like my battery to be only charged up to 4.1V. Can I have this chip report 100% at a capacity corresponding to 4.1V? Likewise, if I would like my battery to be discharged down to 3.1V, can I get this chip to report 0% at 3.1V? Also, would this change the way I should perform the process in determining the ChemID?

Thanks,

William

BQ34Z100-G1: Confirmation of Golden Image for production programming

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

Hello,

Our system uses the BQ34Z100-G1 on the system board and a 2S 5000mAh LiPo battery which is not user replaceable.

During development I have used the bq34z100-G1 EVM to log the battery charge/discharge profile and this data was uploaded to the TI GPC calculator and several Chem IDs were suggested.

I have successfully programmed the best Chem ID into the EVM using bqstudio, and then ran several learning/optimisation cycles, charging at 2A and discharging at C/10 (500mA) constant current with rest periods between the charges and discharges. The Update Status register has now successfully incremented to 0x06.

So I think I have successfully learnt a battery profile? So I have generated the golden image .srec .bqfs, and .dffs files.

My question is, are these golden image files good enough to be used to configure the bq34Z100-G1 parts on our first production units? The golden image files are based on a sample of 1 battery and 1 EVM. We only need the gas gauge to give fair representation of battery capacity and not to be highly accurate on this first build (accuracy within 10% would be good)

Also, going forward, do I need to perform the learning/optimisation procedure on several batteries to get an average profile? If so then how do I do this and merge the data from each battery into one configuration file?

Finally, could you please take a look at the register settings to check that I have correctly set everything up. I have attached the GG file for review (I hope)

Thank you

Peter

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

Hi,

I'm attempting to use the (GPC) Tool so that my BQ34Z100-G1 is able to report state of charge at low temperatures. I've followed the instructions detailed in sluubd0 and have submitted my zip file to the online tool (www.ti.com/.../gpcUpload.tsp), however the results that I have been emailed are not as I expected.

The only attached in the email sent from the GPC tool is a zip file containing a "MiscInfo.txt" and a "GPC_Report.txt" file.

Contents of the MiscInfo.txt:

ProcessingType= 4

Contents of the GPC_report.txt:

0 0 0
Info: voltage in V detected divider changed to 1 0
Info: current in A detected divider changed to 1 0
Info: voltage in V detected, divider changed to 1 0 0

As far as I can tell the tool didn't have any errors, the email I've received is as follows:

Thank you for your interest in the Gauging Parameter Calculator from TI. Please find attached the Gauging Parameter Calculator report that was based on your Gauging Parameter Calculator input zip file submission.

This completes the Gauging Parameter Calculator process. Should you want to re-submit or need assistance with Gauging Parameter Calculator, please reference the sites below:

• Go to Gauging Parameter Calculator to re-submit.
• Visit TI E2E™ Community on Battery Fuel Gauges or the Gauging Parameter Calculator.
• TI Battery Management Homepage

Thank you for using TI's Gauging Parameter Calculator for Battery Fuel Gauges.

Shouldn't I receive a file that I can load into BQStudio to update the chemistry for my gauge? Have I done something wrong??

I'll attach the zip file that I submitted to this post just in case there's an issue there. Would appreciate any help that you can provide with this as my gauge needs to be able to operate in cold temperatures.

Thanks.

BQ34110: Problems configuring device to measure SOC and Remaining Capacity

$

Part Number:BQ34110

I'm working with a BQ34110 to monitor a 3000mAh 25.4v LiFePO4 battery pack.  The pack contains 16 cells total.  They are configured as 8 series sets of 2 parallel cells, so as far as the gauge is concerned, I am using 8 series cells.  I am using bqStudio w/ a EV2400 to communicate.

The problem I'm having is configuring the gauge to correctly monitor the remaining capacity and Relative State of Charge.  I have set up the Voltage Divider parameter, calibrated the voltage and current, set the number of series cells, and I am getting accurate readings for both Current and Voltage from the battery pack.  After draining the battery pack, I then charge the pack using a supplied charger (We will not be using the charging functionality of the bq34110).  The bq34110 appears to properly measure charging current and increases the Remaining Capacity up to the 3000mAh.  I then began to discharge, and to my surprise, the remaining capacity suddenly shoots down to <10% and the Full Charge Capacity register now reads 2744mAh.  This is odd, as I had thought this register could not change unless a "Qualified" discharge was detected, and the VDQ bit that detects this state never went high during the discharge.

So at the moment I'm not quite sure what to do from here.  Have I missed a step in the process of configuring the bq34100?  Is configuring the CEDV profile mandatory to use the device in this way?  If that's the case, is there an up to date reference on how to acquire these parameters and take these required logs? Are all six different logs required? (also FYI, the CEDV Technical Reference link in the GPCPackager tab is dead) What portions of the device do I actually need to configure to simply have access to Current, Voltage, and Remaining Capacity?

Thanks in advance for any assistance

BQ20Z90: I want to use the EV2300 with a BQ20Z90 on a 64 bit windows machine, I've installed the unofficial 64 bit EV2300 driver but get an a "run time error 6 - overflow" with 0.09.64 version of the software

I believe I have installed the software correctly.

with/without an EV2300 attached I get a run-time error 6 overflow.

Also is there a version of the software that works with both the BQ20Z655 and Bq20Z90?

I can get the Bq20z655 software to work and it seems to work with the BQ20Z90, but is not a supported configuration.

Thanks,

Part Number:BQ34Z100-G1

Hello there,

I have the EV2300 connected to my custom BQ34Z100-G1 board through I2C. By using battery management studio 1.3.54.1 I am trying to go through setting the BQ for my battery, The first problem I have stumbled upon is that I cannot figure out how to enable calibration. When I try to calibrate voltage, I get the message "Calibration - A read of data written failed comparison".

I tried setting the CAL_EN flag but that did not help:

I would appreciate all help regarding this issue. Also is there anything else I need to know before setting this gauge?
