BQ27520-G4: EVM stopped working

Part Number:BQ27520-G4

I have a customer with the following symptoms of the broken bq27520-G4 EVM, that stopped working recently:

They used the EV2400 to connect to the bq27520EVM and did not get any response on BQStudio (not auto-detecting gauge), when it was previously communicating.

They also connected the scope to monitor the I2C lines between the two and only see EV2400 traffic attempting to talk to the bq27520EVM.

They are providing 3.6V to the bq27520EVM and do not notice abnormally high current draw.

When they connect the EV2400 directly to the gauge I2C lines on their NRU they can get gauge communication (bq27520-G4 read and write).

Any thoughts on what may be the issue and how to get the EVM working again?

Part Number:BQ78350-R1

Dear TI expert,

I use bq76920+bq78350-r1 application.

I find full charge capacity will always be decreased 256mAH when dischrage 20A/3mins then re-charge to 100%.

The test result as below:

1. Original status:

full charge capacity is 2500mAH

2. re-charge to 100% after 1st discharge 20A/3mins

 full charge capacity is 2244mAH

3. re-charge to 100% after 2nd discharge 20A/3mins

full charge capacity is 1988mAH

4. re-charge to 100% after 1st discharge 20A/3mins

full charge capacity is 1732mAH

Full charge capacity is always decreased the same value every charge/discharge cycles, is it normal situation?

Thanks & BR.

Part Number:BQ28Z610

We use BQ28Z610 for 1S sturcture, short the VC1 and VC2.

Input resistor is 100ohm and capacitor is 0.1uF for VC1.

The SBS.Voltage will variety from 3791 to 3799mV while the power set 3800mV.

If the Input resistor change to 5.1ohm for VC1, the SBS.Voltage is stable for 3799mV.

So, we would like to know the range of input resistance.

Hi,

Customer now is testing battery and wants BQ30Z554 to enter shutdown mode, but sometimes the 3V3 still exist but DSG FET has already off, and the temp. of mosfet that connected to FUSE pin rise very high. Using tool to check the status of BQ30Z554, found that the flag of PTC fo PF, here are the questions:

1. what is the connection between PTC and FUSE, is PTC affect FUSE or FUSE affect PTC?

2. Is it possible that shutdown mode make this happen?

EV2300: BQ78350 Last cell voltage drop over other cells' ones while discharging

Part Number:EV2300

Hello everyone,

I am working with the EV2300 and I've set the BQ78350 to handle 14 cells.

On the EVM, following updates have been done (following SLVU925B, 6.4 Reducing the Cell Count)

  • VC14 (TP41) and VC13 (TP42) are shorted,
  • R65 and R70 have been removed,
  • Short C14 to C13

It seems to work pretty fine, the voltages returned are fine while there is no load and DSG is disabled.

Cell 12,13 and 14 voltages are around the same and cell 11 is the weakest.

While discharging, it can be seen than the drop on cell 14 is much bigger than the other cells.

I have been suspected a weak cell and change the configuration but the problem does not follow the cell, it is always the 14th cell which is concerned.

Did I forget something on my settings?

Thanks for your comments.

Regards,

Celine

BQ27510-G3: GPOUT pin configuration

Part Number:BQ27510-G3

If I set the Op Config [PFC_CFG1,PFC_CFG0] to 01, set Op Config [GPOUT_INT] to 0, and set Op Config [BAT_FN] to 0, in my opinion , the GPOUT pin has two functions: one is generating 0 or 1 signal based on the cell temp during charging as explained in table 5-9 in the TRM; two is following the status of the Flags( ) [SOC1] bit. Based on above assumptions, my question is how do I figure out if the state of GPOUT pin indicates over temp or the state of SOC. Or is my understanding of this incorrect? Does the GPOUT pin just indicate one function?

Part Number:BQ34110

Hi team,

we are interested in setting up a learning cycle / golden file generation for the BQ34110.   The battery we will be using is a Lead Calcium battery, the Power Cell PC1290:

www.powercell.com/.../powercell-pc1290-12-volt-9-0-ah-sealed-lead-acid-battery

Does TI have a chemistry ID for this battery?  Is the learning cycle procedure for this gauge similar to other LiIon gauges?  Can we model our approach for generating a golden file for this gauge/battery combo on SLUA777 for example?

Thanks,

Sal

BQ40Z60: Problem using Advanced BQMTester and BQProduction

$

Part Number:BQ40Z60

I would like to use my Advanced BQMTester and EV2300 to do production firmware flashing and calibration of the BQ40Z60.  I have been using the EV2300 successfully with BQStudio. However, I am unable to get very much to happen when I connect it to the BQMtester.

I have followed the hardware setup connections specified in SLUU397A, and am trying to use BQProduction as described in this document e2e.ti.com/.../Taking-your-fuel-gauge-from-design-to-production.pdf

I have connected the 5V and 24V supplies, and the current and voltage supply LEDs are lit.

In BQProduction, it does show a “station 1” connected when the EV2300 is plugged into my computer.  But I have not been able to get the BQMTester to output any voltages. It seems that the optoisolators that enable the voltage outputs are not turning on.  I have used an oscilloscope to probe the SMBUs output of the EV2300 while it is connected to BQproduction and while I am clicking both “scan boards” and “Start test”.  I do not see any SMBus activity when I do either of these actions, even though BQProduction does seem to be detecting the EV2300. An idea what is going wrong? I am using BQproduction 1.0.9 and the EV2300 has firmware 3.1m.

BQ40Z50: ManufacturerAccess() and ManufacturerData() commands

$

Part Number:BQ40Z50

Hello Team,

I am working with one of our customers on the bq40Z50 and they are having the following issue. Thanks for your help!

I am having some troubles with the ManufacturerAccess read/write. I followed the smbus protocol as specified here (http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slua475/slua475.pdf) and have been successful in querying command words to read back the voltage, temperature, capacity, etc. I am now trying to use the ManufacturerAccess() command along with the ManufacturerData() command to query and then read back the values of the specified address. I cannot get this to work in the same communication framework as the word commands.

Does the ManufacturerAccess() and ManufacturerData() commands expect/return a PEC? The example on page 89 (http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluubk0a/sluubk0a.pdf) makes it seem like a PEC is not included. Could you provide some clarity on this?

BQ27750EVM-837: device not recognized automatically and Battery Management Studio does not accept 1750_0_04-bq27750.bqz file

Part Number:BQ27750EVM-837

Dear TI-Team

I have some problems and questions concerning the BQ27750EVM-837 with the EV2400.

1. I couldn't find the bqz file in the target selection wizard therefore I took the 1750_0_04-bq27750.bqz file I found in another question on the forum but now I get the error message: "The detected device is not compatible with this application." I put the file into: C:\ti\BatteryManagementStudio\config.
During the installation I also didn't get the messages described in step 2/3 of the  2.2 Software Installation in the manual. (TI USB DRIVER INSTALLER etc.).
Do you have an idea why it's not working? Are there any other drivers also for the EV2400 or some hardware configuration which need to be done for the EV2400 beforehand on the board?

2. The auto detection of the device also doesn't work somehow even though I applied a voltage at the charger/load pins TP6 & TP2 and pressed the pushbuttion S1. Does the device work without battery connected or does the battery needs to be connected to start the device?

3. What are the min, max voltages which can be applied at the charger/load input?

I hope you can help me!

Kind regards

Anja

BQ78350-R1: Battery Mode CapM automatically changes from from 0 to 1

Part Number:BQ78350-R1

I am using the BQ78350-R1 Li-Ion Gas Gauge / Battery Management Controller with BQ7692000 AFE in a new design. I am currently working on calibration and configuration of the gas gauge in order to make a golden image for production and/or setup learning automation. I am using theEV2300 connected to the SMBs on my board to communicate with the BQ78350.

I noticed that CapM, under battery mode, automatically changes from from 0 to 1. This means that my full charge capacity is reported in mWh when I want to see mAh. How do I set this to remain constant?

BQ27520-G4: question about SOH update

$

Part Number:BQ27520-G4

Dear TI,

This has helped me to understand the Qmax update of the BQ27520.

Based on this information, I am looking for the SOH information of a specific battery,
I have a few issues and would like to contact you again.

1. The SOH value is not correct.

I measured the SOH of a somewhat obsolete battery (92% available) and it was still displayed as 100%.
(The basis of 92% is the result of discharging a fully charged battery of 4.35V at 0.2C and based on the actual discharge time.)
This battery is derived from the traditional Qmax update method, but the SOH is displayed as 100%.
In this case, even if we use the Fast Qmax update function, it is displayed as 100%
which part is wrong?
- Full charging / Relaxation 2 hours -> Full discharging / Relaxation When DOD is determined after 5 hours
The SOH value is displayed as 100%. (This is the Traditional Qmax Update.)
- The SOH status value was 0x3 when displayed as 100%. (SOH value ready)

2. If we use only about 80% of the battery, whether Qmax is updated or not.

This is a Q4 related inquiry.
Currently, the battery can be charged up to 4.35V, but in some cases it is only charged to 4.2V.
However, the charge / discharge related parameter of BQ27520 is 4.35V.
- Based on 4.35V Designed capacity: 2950mAh, Charging termination current: 150mA
- Based on 4.2V Designed capacity: 2360mAh, Charging termination current: 250mA or 4.35V

Even in the Qmax update condition of Traditional or Fast method, FC bit ON seems to be a prerequisite in charge state in DOD point determination. However, in the above situation, the FC bit will not turn ON.
Is the Qmax update possible under this condition?

As more and more customers are demanding smart batteries, smart battery related functions such as battery life cycle and cycle count are becoming important factors.
If our laboratory has a technical understanding of this area, I think it will be the foundation of business.

Sorry for the trouble, but I'll wait for your meaningful answer.

thanks,

TS

BQ27531EVM: how to override the register default values in BQ24192 automatically by the 27531?

$

Part Number:BQ27531EVM

Hi, Ti engineers:

I'm using the bq27531 fuel gauge + bq24192 Charger  application, communication is done through bqstudio(V1.3.80) + EV2300(V3.1m).(communication tested well).

According to the User's Guide of bq27531,I set the [DEFAULT_OVRD] bit and [BYPASS] bit true in Charger Option; and modify the Reg xx Default values in Charger Info by bqstudio, store them in the Data Flash of bq27531.

After that, I remove and insert the battery, and check the register values ,they are still RESET values; apparently, the bq27531 did not override them to the modified default values that are stored in the Data Flash as expected.

How can I override the charger register values automatically by 27531?

BQ27750EVM-837: integrate into application for monitoring

Part Number:BQ27750EVM-837

Hi Ti community

I have a small problem with my BQ27750EVM. So actually I want ot use the evaluation module to monitor the battery during usage.
This means I have a device that delivers not constant but dccurrent and the battery I want to charge.
The only thing I want to monitor is the relative state of charge, battery voltage, battery capacity and the charging current.

I thought I just needed to connect the battery to the battery terminal (1N & 1P)and the device that delievers the current to the charger terminal charger+ & charger -) .
If I do this the battery management studio shows me that the battery is discharging not charging.

Do I misunderstand something wrong about the way the evaluation board should be used?

In the schematics of  the EVM is seems like the 1P and charger + port are not directly connected by default. Is the purpose of the FET bypassto connect the two or what's the purpose of it?

Kind regards

Anja

Part Number:BQ27421-G1

Hi,

We wish to use Shutdown mode for optimizing on power consumption.

I can't find a detailed procedure on which values should be read before shutdown and restored during start-up, and how to read these and writer these exactly. Can you give some procedure or pseudo-code for this? Where will it fit in the flow chart described in the Quick-start doc Figure 4. Is unseal required to update these after start-up?

Thanks,

Moshe
