Part Number:BQ27621-G1

Hello,

We are using BQ27621 Fuel gauge IC for our prototype design which is battery operated. We have put the jumper to measure the current consumption of the IC. We found that as per datasheet, it should consume 27uA current in normal/active mode but using 6 1/2 DMM we measured that current around 56uA. So we don't know why it is consuming this much of current.

Will you help me to understand how and where this much current is going?

Here I have attached the schematic snap of the IC and the measurement point is jumper J1.

BQ76940EVM: bq78350-R1 SOC always 0%

Part Number:BQ76940EVM

Hello,

I'm currently working with the BQ76940EVM, EV2300 and the latest BqStudio version (1.3.86.3).

I followed the steps in the user guide for the Gauge Quick Start exactly.

But the SOC is always 0%, I couldnt figure out what to change to get the SOC displayed.

The Voltage of each cell is wrong as well, the ext avg cell voltage is nearly correct after the caibration: 3910 mV.

But the Voltage of each cell (in my case 10 cells) is wrong: Cell 1: 2605 mV, Cell 2: 2601 mV and so on.... My cells are balanced so each cell has 3910 mV. I'm not able to calibrate them individually(always error out of range)

I also changed some values in the data memory section, such as designed Capacity and a few more, but still no SOC.

I'm happy about any help.

When I used BQ27441EVM,connected Battery,EVM,EV2400 , but the SOC is display 0% ,even I configured Design Capacity,Design Energy,Terminal Voltage,Taper;

User Guide said :  "When configured with the nominal battery capacity, the fuel gauge automatically begins learning the true battery capacity and resistance profile during operation in the end-equipment. This means accuracy automatically optimizes itself as the user charges and discharges the battery. If desired, the system designer can perform a simple one-day optimization cycle before production to determine the best settings
for the fuel gauge. This refinement is easiest to perform using the bq27441EVM, but the actual system can also be used. Once determined, these optimized parameters can be included in the configuration update outlined above and require no additional overhead. This pre-optimized golden file allows the end user to experience higher initial accuracy out of the box without having to wait for the gauge to learn during operation.

so this seems it need to do charge and Discharge Battery ? and how ? and how to perform a simple one-day optimization cycle before production, like export Golden File

Part Number:BQ40Z80EVM-020

My customer is having difficulty establishing a connection with the BQ40Z80EVM using bqStudio.

We've tried / verified the following:

  • adding bqz files found in this post
  • jumper settings for on-boardEV2400 found on page 5 of the quick start guide
  • wake button mentioned in this post

Are there any other recommended steps for troubleshooting the connection?

BQ35100: SOH compute with Panasonic CR123A

Part Number:BQ35100

hi,

TI support team,we are using BQ35100 for SOH monitor, with Lithium Manganese Dioxide (Li-MnO 2 ) cells:Panasonic CR123A.The following questions hope to get your answers:

1. we found  Panasonic CR123A Chemistry is 0616, but Its description is  Thionyl Chloride (Li-SOCl 2 ) cells,Is it wrong here?

2. Navigate to data Memory>Configuration>registers,  There is a Battery ID Option,However, there is no specific description in the manual. what BATT_ID1 and BATT_ID0 mean here?

3. STATE-OF-HEALTH mode is typically used with Lithium Manganese Dioxide (Li-MnO 2 ) cells , In this mode, cell voltage and temperature are precisely measured immediately after the GE pin is asserted. The gauge uses this data to compute SOH. How ever, Battery voltage is greatly affected by load,How BQ35100 to achieve high precision SOH monitoring, When should the host pullup GE to measure SOH?

4.  If the battery is not continuously discharged, but there is a large current discharge, the battery voltage is very different before and after the discharge. When the rest time is long enough, the battery voltage will rise. How to achieve high-precision SOH monitoring?

Looking forward to your reply, thank you!

BQ27510-G3: CC offset update automatically

Part Number:BQ27510-G3

Hi,

I  found a phenomenon that ‘CC offset ’ register of BQ27510-G3 will change automatically. For example, I update a golden image to BQ27510, the ‘CC offset’ is set to 1320 mA. But after I read the ‘dataflash’ register several times or I re-turn on the board, ‘CC offset ’ changes to 1482 mA. My operation is under normal mode.

I notice there is a description as below. So I want to check whether this phenomenon is normal? If yes, whether the situation B is triggered? If no, what should I do to fix this?

Many thanks.

BQ40Z50-R2: Parallel-Cell Balancing

Part Number:BQ40Z50-R2

The R1 to R2 FW change list (TI publication slua833.pdf), Table-1, item 5  introduces parallel cell balancing as a new feature in R2, which did not exist in R1.  It references this feature to CBM, which was RESERVED in R1.  It also notes that "adjacent cells will not be balanced", implying that you can either balance series stacked (4s) single cells, or balance paralleled single cell packs, but not both.

Is there any documentation describing this new feature?

Is there any reference design for the external hw required to support parallel cell balancing?

BQ34110: Please explain the factors BQ uses to generate SOH information

Part Number:BQ34110

It seems like SOH is an indicator of the health of a battery.

We always receive 100% from the StateOfHealth() command. What is the point of an SOH that always reports 100%?

There is no information in the TRM about how SOH works and what factors the BQ device uses to determine SOH and what happens to SOH as a battery ages.

Can you explain how SOH is expected to decrease as a battery ages?

What threshold of SOH should a battery be replaced?

Hi,

Now the customer has evaluated bq35100 and they are facing communication failure after programming srec file. They prepared the srec file by using EVM and then they found communication failure when they programmed the srec file to their prototype board. Have you had experience like this? Please let me know what information I should confirm to find the cause of this issue.

Is there a way to disable and enable charging on the BQ40Z60 from a host processor?

I understand that ManufacturerAccess() 0x00C0 CHGR_EN does what I want but it is not available in sealed mode.

I want a way to disable charging when the host knows that It is connected to a power source that it does not want to draw current from.

BQ33100: Questions for Capacitance Learning feature

Part Number:BQ33100

Hi,

Customer is testing BQ33100 and got below questions.

1. As described in the section 8.3.1.1 of the datasheet. For the learning process 1 and 3, is it charge to full? Is the discharge time fixed for the learning process 2 and 4? If the discharge time is not fixed, how BQ33100 determined discharge done?

2. After we gave the Learn command and wait for around 1 minute, we can see the supercap started the discharge for 6 seconds and stop and wait 1 more minute and discharge another 1 second then showed "Learn completed successfully" and the supercap status messages. See below captured pictures. Does it mean complete a learn cycle?

3. In the failed board, we can see the first time supercap discharge spent more than 20 seconds and then keep in Learn in progress till relearn timed out. We would like to know what kind of error may caused it been hold in Learn in progress and failed to complete the Learn cycle?

Part Number:EV2300

I'm running BQStudio 1.3.54.1 on a Windows 7 64-bit computer. I've installed drivers from this thread to allow the EV2300 to work on such a computer, but it still does not show up on BQStudio. The EV2300 shows up as a "TI TUSB3210/2136 Application Firmware Loader" in my device manager, under the "USB Controllers" category. Please help me get my computer/BQStudio to recognize the EV2300 so that I can work with the bq34z100g1 fuel gauge.

Thank you.

BQ27441-G1: can't read power or current

Part Number:BQ27441-G1

Every time I read either average power, average current, standby current or max load current, I get back nonsense values. Usually the values are pretty close to the max value for a uint16. Is there a step I might be forgetting? Everything else reads just fine.

Battery balancing

Hello,

I would like to balance my batteries (4S1P / 4S2P). But I don't hace access to the cell of my batteries. So the purpose is to balance the batteries (2S1P) together.

But as I know the components which makes this function are made to supervise cell at 4,2V and not for 8,4V. Is that right ?

Do you have a part number to recommend ?

I precise that the component should not consume too much power (<200µA when it is not used).

Thanks,

Ewen

Two batteries operation for like a switched capacitor

Hello E2E,

Our next development product to be need high-voltage more than currentry product.
For example... Have two batteries, parallel charging -> serial discharging.
Is it able?
Parallel to serial mode change operating is done by FET and MCU.

Please your opinion.

BQ40Z50: BQ40Z50 consume power after CUV of cell

$

Part Number:BQ40Z50

I discharge the cell to CUV protection and leave the cell alone for 2 days. And the voltage of Cell 3 is 2.101V below 2.5V. It seems like that energy is dissipated. I wander whether BQ40Z50 consume energy itself after CUV. The configuration is SHUTDOWN VOLTAGE=1.75V, PS SHUTDOWN VOLTAGE =2.5v and PWR_SAVE_VSHUT disabled.
Is BQ40Z50 consume energy to lead the voltage of cell down? If I enable PWR_SAVE_VSHUT and set SHUTDOWN VOLTAGE 2.6v to force BQ40Z50 to shut down for saving power.
