I'm using the bq Evaluation software pack with the older version of bq27541-V200, among other thing I use to do the "learning cycle".

However when I'm attaching the new bq27541-G1 fuel gauge I can't get the option of "learning cycle" on the bq Evaluation software screen.

how can I do the learning cycle for my battery pack mounted with the bq27541-G1 ?

How to do chemistry cycle test with EV2400?

I am trying to complete the configuration process for a design using the BQ27541-V200.

I have the BQ27541EVM, which came with an EV2300 interface. Because this is not supported on 64-bit systems I have instead obtained an EV2400.

After installing the bqEVSW software and the support components that allow it to be used with the EV2400, I am able to communicate with the board and go through the first part of the calibration process.

I now need to do the chemistry selection test, which requires a load circuit to be connected under control of the program and connected to the VOUT pin of the EV2300 HDQ port.

I have built this circuit and confirmed that it works correctly, but the HDQ port of the EV2400 does not output the necessary control signal - the VOUT pin is constant high and is unaffected by the test on/off buttons on page 4C of the bqEASY tool. The EV2400 documentation says that the HDQ port is not supported.

I saw that there are unofficial 64-bit drivers for the EV2300, so installed these and tried to use the EV2300 instead, but they do not work - the EV2300 appears as 'Unidentified Device' in Device Manager, and is not detected by bqEVSW.

How can I complete this test? I see that there is a newer package, GaugeStudio, but it doesn't seem to include the bqEASY tool or equivalent functionality.

Dear TI team,

I have bought one of the ti's gas gauges (BQ28z560-r1 ) and designed a driving board for this two months ago.

Now i am testing it and during this time i realize that this IC denoted as "not recommended for new design" although it was in ti's 2014 production lists. please tell me the reasons of this occurrence. what is BQ28z560-r1  faults.

Best Regards.

BQ20Z75 won't unlock

Hello-

I've pasted a waveform to detail this issue.  The unseal and full access codes are the default codes.  In short, I read the operation status, the pack tells me it is locked.  I issue a lock command (a coding error).  I issue the unseal command (0414, 3672) and then the full access command (FFFF FFFF). I read the operational status again and the pack is not unlocked.  Why did it not unlock???

thanks-

Ray

p.s. So I used the paste from word button and it didn't paste my waveform. So not sure what to do now.

Sure would be nice to be able to attach screen shots or pdfs to these posts.

BQ27425-G2A / Max. Battery Capacity

I intend to use BQ27425-G2A or BQ27421-G1.

When I compare parameters on the the TI web-site:
http://www.ti.com/product/BQ27425-G2A?keyMatch=bq27425&tisearch=Search-EN

BQ27425-G2a seems to have a Battery Capacity limited to max. 4000mAh.
I can't find, where this limit comes from? In the datasheet limit is 32767mAH?

bq27510-g3 learning cycle

Hi ,

We performed Learning Cycle for bq27510-G3. We had done this before with G2. Based on one of the forums, we can reuse calibration values of the G2 for the G3 (they will be used in the same product).

We had proceeded with the learning cycle and generated the dfi. After generating the dfi, we had also "read" the the values to senc file (I2C).

Then using another Fuel Gauge, we programmed using the dfi but was shown, "Problem with the DFI".

During the Configure phase of the Characterization, we had encountered Error:Could not find subclass and offset for Gas Gauging.IT Cfg.Reserve Cap-mWh

based from this forum link: http://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/battery_management/f/180/p/315386/1208546.aspx it is a bug of the bqeasy and we chould just proceed with the characterization.

In addition, during the update of the Golden Pack, an error popped us stating Error: Could not find subclass and offset for Gas Gauging.State.Cell0 Chg dod at EoC however, despite of this error popping, the software continued and generated the dfi file. So I had assumed that this is another bug in the software.

We are planning to conduct another learning cycle as soon as possible but we cannot proceed unless we had a solution to the error. Has anyone experienced the same thing with G3? How was this resolved?

Thanks,

Kat

BQ34Z100 FCC and RC suddenly drops or goes to 0 after 19 cycles

Dear all,

Our fuel gauge works with LI-ION pack 20S20P or 20S10P and measuring voltage from lower 10 cells.

We were looking on forum but we cant find out what we do wrong.

Everything seems to be OK, we performed calibration and learning cycle. RC and SOC changes correctly and after some cycles SOH drop to 99% so it looks OK.

But after 19 cycles we find out that in one battery (20s20p) FCC and RC suddenly goes to 0.

Another problem is, that in other two smaller batteries (20s10p) when we charge it to max voltage (84V) FCC and RC drops 25 or 50%

first one (17 cycles):

RC = 1982 -> 1102

FCC = 2002 -> 1102

second one (14 cycles):

RC = 2003 -> 1571

FCC = 2006 -> 1571

Do you have any clue what is the reason of that behavior?

Could you look at enclosed gg file from 20s20p battery? Please change the extension of attached file to .gg.

bq769x0 VCn filter components

Datasheet states 100 min and 1k typical value for Rfilt on VCn inputs.  There is no maximum value.

I believe Cc information is for the associated capacitor.  Right?

EVM uses 1k with 1uF.

Would it be allright to use 3k and 330nF?

Cutoff frequency would stay much the same but I don't know if increasing resistor may introduce imprecision in the ADC stage...

bq7718xy land pattern

Good morning,

I don't know if this is the right forum section for this question, but I haven't found a better one.

The question is trivial but fundamental because I cannot go ahead with my project. On the datasheet of the relatively new component bq7718xy the land pattern to use is absent. Is it possible to have it, please?

Thank you very much

Matteo

Advanced BQMtester, How to seal pack for production?

$

Hi,

I am currently working on the Advanced Bqmtester with BQ20Z90 to prepare for production.

I am unable to find a method to seal the pack with the station setup.

For Bqmtester, there is an option to seal to pack upon completion of test. but this option is not available for the advanced bqmtester.

+ I have tried sealing the pack before generating the .rom file. This fails as the sealed pack doesn't allow the DF Reader to read the DF image.

+ Also tried unsealing it and generate the .rom file. This fails as the pack does not seal itself upon completion.

There should be a method to seal the pack so that production can run smoothly. Currently, I have found no possible method yet. Any Ideas?.

Thanks

bq34z100 minimum sense resistor

Does anyone know what the minimum supported sense resistor is for the BQ34z100?

Calculations based on the data flash show CCDelta can only be as small as 4 mOhms, but this is giving me issues. The TI Eval software will calibrate the CC Delta to 0.97 and lower, but attempting to edit the CC Delta field will result in an error pop stating the value can only be a minimum of 4 mOhms. So I'm a little confused on what is happening.

BQ27421 Eval Board

We are currently using the BQ27421 Eval board to evaluate the device and are beginning to wonder of we have a bad board.  In the standard configuration once the external battery is applied, we only see ~0.003V (3mV) on the LDO output on VDD.  We have checked to make sure there is no external shorts on VDD and measured resistance to ground is >300 Kohms so it does not appears shorted.  We have attempted to toggle BIN with no change and we have used an external VCC on J4 with all signals tied to EXT and, again, we only see 3mV on VDD.  One additional clue is that when we put a heavy load (1.6A) across the battery we are are seeing a 26mV drop across BAT and SRX which would indicate about a 16mOhm sense resistor instead of the typical 7mOhm.  Are we missing something in the configuration of the board?  It appears that the only time the LDO is switched off is in Shutdown mode and our understanding is that once a battery is applied we should b e in active mode.  Also, Can the internal sense resistor vary that much off of typical?

Thanks for your help.

BQ27742 -- Impedance Track suitability for long term charge

Hi Team,

I have an application where a single charge in a pack is expected to last 7 to 8 years in a device that is located outdoors which means it will be subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations.

Would the DOD, SOC, or TTE values fluctuate drastically due to pack temperature?

The concern is, if the gas gauge is queried in the summer, it will give a different TTE/DOD/SOC than if it is queried in the winter.

Also, is there a way to disable under-voltage protection for the bq27742 device?

bq20z40 v1.04 software

Hi.

I'm trying to repair battery for hp MU06 with bq20z40. This bq20z40 is v1.04, but on Your site i found that bq20z40 has NRND status and most fresh bqeasy software is for bq20z40-R1 v1.05. When I connect battery to EV2300 and launch bqeasy software I see that bq20z40 1.04 is incompatible.

I can set some values in data flash liek cycle count, design capacity, etc, but I can't set a proper chemistry in bqeasy section. After changing chemistry only chemistry Id is changed, but RA table isn't, so I can't make good calibration.

Coul You help me, what can I do with it ? Maybe could You upload earlier version of software (this one which is compatible with v1.04) ?

bq76920 without connection to cells

Hello,

I have an existing unprotected 12 cells battery pack (including passive balancing and over-voltage protection). I want to add some features:

- Overcurrent/Short circuit protection

- Bidirectional Coulombs counter

- Instantaneous current reading

- It would also be nice to disconnect the pack with I2C/SPI command or GPIO

The bq76920 may do the job, since it integrate sense resistor amplifier, CC, and short circuit protection.

- Could it work in this particular application since I will NOT connect any cell to the chip?

- Does it offer the instantaneous current reading?

Thank you

Bq34z100 Control and Block commands

Hi ,

I wanted to know about how control command and its subsequent 2byte sub commands retrieve data.

We are considering a code  to send command 1 byte at a time to fetch the data.

So if suppose i want to fetch 'Instantaneous Current' (measured by the gauge),  send totally 4 bytes of command byte by byte in a row?

If so, i ll have to send bytes 0x00 and 0x01( control - command pair) and then send sub command (0x0018 for current)  0x00  first is used to retrieve the least significant byte of current and command 0x18 next  is used to retrieve the most significant byte.. Is that how it is?

Also, it would be great if u could tell me how available block commands ( Device Name, Manufacturer name, Device Chemistry) retrieve data.

Please help me with clarity on these as soon as possible, i am running out of time.

Regards and Thanks,

Shamanth D R

bq30z554 fuse pin

$

I am using a bq30z554 gauge/protection IC but do not need the fuse pin (I am using a PTC instead).  If I leave the pin floating, the pin floats high and the IC believes that the fuse has been driven/tripped.  It then sets the FUSE bit (Operation Status > FUSE) and prevents the CHG and DSG FETs from turning on.  So I short the Fuse pin to ground and the IC works as expected.

My question is: Does shorting the Fuse pin to ground cause any issues with the IC?  The datasheet shows a 2k internal resistance but should I use a 10k series resistor to ground instead?

Thank you all in advance.

Joe Stark.
